Hi everyone. Sorry I’ve been absent. I’ve been reading a lot and we were out of town for a few days. Those Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich are totally cracking me up. I am on the 7th book.

We spent a few days in Denver. We had tickets to the Gorillaz concert there so we put in a bid on Priceline for a 4 star room in Denver for $150 a night. Someone accepted it for $159 so we were downtown Denver and were pretty close to the concert. Sunday afternoon we wandered around looking at the sights (mostly the diversity of people) of the big city. We ate dinner at the hotel then headed to the concert. We took a taxi to the theater which btw was my first taxi cab ride ever. The concert was marvelous but I couldn’t see much since everyone in front of me was tall. Rats. I had peaks of the stage through the crowd. We were actually pretty close to the front but the seating there was more flat than on a gradual incline. After the concert we didn’t see any taxi so we walked the 7 blocks back to the hotel. Now since I am a small town girl I was kind of worried about walking around that late but there were still quite a few people out walking. We slept in until 9 am the next morning and took a shuttle down to the Brown Palace. We had breakfast there a few years ago and thought it was divine so we wanted to try it again. It was still divine. Then we headed to the mall. We spent about 5 hours in the mall but mostly because Marty found a watch he wanted but he couldn’t decide if he wanted to spend that much money. I finally just said “get it”. We’d probably still be wandering the mall if I hadn’t told him to buy it. Next it will be my turn at the jewelry store. Sweet. Then we headed home stopping at an A&W to have a root beer float. When we came outside (about 7 pm) it was snowing and blowing like crazy. I urged Marty to drive 100 mph and get us home. The last concert we went to was in the spring of 2008 and we started out the next morning by eating breakfast at the Brown Palace. By the time we were done with breakfast there was 4 inches of snow on the ground already. An hour later and only about 30 miles out of town we were stranded in a complete whiteout blizzard. We used the nav system to find a hotel and stayed there waiting out the storm and got home the following evening. I swear he is never getting me to a concert again unless it is in June, July or August. Despite the snow scare we had a great weekend. I bought myself a new waffle maker, a fleece jacket with the faux Sherpa lining and some Christmas gifts.

Eating was HORRID but I hope all the walking we did helped counteract that. I never went grocery shopping last week so we’ve been picking up fast food for supper. Oh no! I hope to go out tomorrow night and get a few things.

Did you guys see they pretty much confirmed the Tunguska impact was a comet? Very cool.

Char, I am so glad you found your husband’s wedding ring. I am glad they were able to replace your side mirror on your car so inexpensive. That is great news your eyes haven’t changed. I need to remember to use those refresh tears in my eyes, they have sure gotten dry. Is it getting cold there too? How sweet to make the cake for your husband. I am sure you miss him so much. You are doing well probably better than I would be doing. I am pretty much a wussy little baby. Congrats for losing weight, my weight has gone up but I continue to try. I can’t believe the elections will be next week. Wow time does fly.

Take care.
Marcy

Hi everyone!!! I can't believe that October is almost over. It seems like it barely got started. My good intentions have gone haywire the last week and I have not done well at all. I made a gluten free cake and wrote I Miss You and my husband's name. but at least I have been several days eating it so its not like I gobbled it down in a day. I stil have enough for tomorrow so it will last a week.

Night time nibbles are the worse for me. I am getting ready to go to Kentucky where the USDA and another group will be honoring my husband at a convention there. I supposed to received something for him. I just wish he were the one doing the receiving. It will be bitter sweet for me.

I will be gone several days so hopefully, Marcy will hold down the fort here and if she is unable to please someone else step up and post on our November chat for me. I will put it up before I leave next week.

Gradually things are coming together. I will try to stop by a little later, but have to leave now for election judge training to serve at the polls Tuesday.

Have a great day, everyone.

The last couple of weeks have not been bad. I have had ups and downs but not the disasters I had all summer. I did have my side mirror fall of my car this week. Had to go back and get the other car to go to the Youth Night I was headed to attend.

So Monday I was up early making phone calls and found someone who could replace it relatively inexpensively. He got a used one at the salvage yard and mixed paint to match my car. He did a great job and didn't charge me much at all. I will take my other car in to him as the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working on it. Thank goodness I didn't need it that night I used it.

I also had the handy man come out and measure my windows so I can get new double pane windows. I was supposed to have heard from him last night but have not heard from him. I hope that is not a bad sign.

I continue to lose weight and even my friend I hadn't seen in a couple of weeks noticed. I noticed, too when I put on some clothes from last winter which fit me snugly then, but are fitting loose now. I guess I am doing something right, but have really just been trying to eat sensibly.

Went to the eye doctor today. My eyes are stable and I don't need new glasses, thank goodness. He did prescribe some eye drops for me.

It is cooling off here but not badly. As long as it is not really cold I am happy.

Hope everyone is doing okay so far this fall.

Well today was a good day and so was most of this week. I did have a scare yesterday as I thought I had lost my husbands wedding ring and chain but turns out I had just taken it off at my mom's when I stayed at her house and showered. I looked for it there Sunday night but couldn't find it so had been searching all over my house, yard, car, etc. I finally broke down crying and called a friend. That night while they rescued the last miner my mom found it on the dresser at her house. What a relief but I am not sure I am going to wear it around my neck anymore. That was just too scary.

I have had incredibly good luck on eggs. I bought eggs last week, but just before I started to use them I remembered that the neighbor had said she had been throwing away eggs and I could have as many as I wanted so I went over to her house and got a dozen and thought that I was overstocked but her hens might stop laying so I could always use them.

Then today one of my students brought me a dozen eggs to pay for part of her violin lessons which I told her she could do before I got the dozen from my neighbor, so I sit here, just me, with three dozen eggs. I need to think of something to make with them.
Any suggestions?

I'm glad you got to see the comet, too. I guess we were just expecting a lot more out of it. LOL

I bought batteries to replace the red dot battery I let run down, but won't use them for a while. It is very, very cold here but should warm up some.

I had rice and sausage, peppers, rice and cheese with Cavendars tonight and a ham sandwich with lettuce and tomato for lunch. Got some good deals at my cheap (75% off)grocery store. I love the pina colada light probiotic yogurt with vitamins A and D added they have. Mmmmm good and very healthy.

I was so happy for the miners. What a great job their government and mine specialist did. I cried along with the camera and news crew and everyone on the scene when they rescued the first one.
I think I am trying to come down with something on top of just the normal aches I get with FM. I warded it off last week with some Dolicoccil. I had never tried it before but found some at my cheap store and when I got all achy and feverish, sore throat, etc. last week used some. Amazing stuff. I could actually feel it work it worked so fast!!!! I grabbed two more boxes of it tonight and hopefully it will get me through the flu season.

Well I am off to bed soon for some R & R.

Hi everyone! How about those miners in Chili? I am very excited for them to all be rescued.

Char, I did see the comet but it wasn't much to look at in binoculars. I hate to hear you are aching all over. Stupid high pressure systems do that to me as well. Feel better.

Work hasn’t been too bad this week and next Tuesday my employee who has been on maternity leave will be back. I am very excited to have a full staff again.

Marty had to go to Denver today for work so I rode home with a friend. We decided to go have a drink and chips and salsa. We also had a taco. I ate too much I just had to have an alka seltzer cocktail. That will teach me, huh? Marty is going back tomorrow but he will take his truck this time so I can have the car.

Take care.

I hope you get to see it. Tonight it is cloudy and thundering out. Rain is eminent and will be cloudy at least through Wednesday. What a bummer.

It also supposed to get cold and I can feel the front coming. I ache all over. It hit me just a few hours ago. I hadn't even had the weather on to know, but as soon as I started hurting I checked the weather on the computer and sure enough a front is on its way.

Char, it is clear so I hope to spot the comet in binoculars tonight.

Yay for a weak without disaster. It's the start of a new and long running trend.

I am very tickled with the help and support you get from your friends and community. There are many good people in the world.

Take care.

Hi Marcy,
I did see the comet briefly on Friday night. I had a low power eyepiece in my Harding telescope. Unfortunately, it looked more like a minus sign than a comet and when I went to change eyepieces I lost it, and never found it again. Last night would have been ideal for spotting it but I had to go to my moms.

What really irritated me was I used up the battery on my red dot finder by forgetting to turn it off and it was a brand new battery!!! So I got two more at Walmart this afternoon. I am beat tonight so won't bother going out.

I am just happy that now I have a roof that shouldn't leak, the trees from the ice storm 3 years ago that were all down in my yard cut up for firewood or hauled off, and my chimney clean out. My roofer did all of that and when I tried to pay him extra he wouldn't let me. There are some really good people in this world.

The back door for my house is finished but not on and the weatherization crew is coming out Saturday to inspect my house to see what needs to be done to make it more efficient energy wise.

I ate out twice today. Not good but will try to do better tomorrow.

Tonight I am going to write down and count my blessings, since I actually made it through a week without a disaster. I think this is the first week for that since my husband died, so I am just so thankful for break. For a while I felt like nothing was getting accomplished, but it looks like a few things are.

Hope your week is a good one.

Hi everyone! I spent most of my weekend either in the kitchen or reading. Yesterday I ran errands and went grocery shopping so I just made a pot roast for supper. Today I made homemade spaghetti and meatballs. I just go my second batch of dishes going in the dishwasher. We’ve got lots of leftovers for lunch now too. Woo hoo.

Marty spent most of his weekend winterizing the 5th and installing a new stereo system in his truck. I think he worked harder than I did.

Sadly we've had rainy and cloudy weather so no dice finding the comet near the double cluster. Rats!!!

Back to my book!

Hi everyone! Do you know what the best part of my day was today? Now – it’s almost over. OMG! What a day. The software people came to observe us use their program. Many of the things we’ve complained about were working just fine today. Go figure, eh? Then I found a new “bug” in the software where I entered an item on the wrong day and it wiped out 3 weeks – count ‘em – 3 weeks of data. D’oh! I was there till 6 getting it all entered again. I sure wanted chocolate and wine tonight but I didn’t give in to temptation. I am sure those guys think I am a total dolt.

Marty gets back from California tomorrow and it’s his birthday so I will drag him out to dinner. He got a new stereo system for his truck so he’ll be busy this weekend installing that.

I hope to try and find the comet Friday or Saturday. It is going to be near the Perseus Double cluster.

Char, rice can go a long way, be inexpensive and you can do so much with it. We actually bought a rice cooker recently too. I am enjoying my Kindle – I have finished 2 books since I got it. I think Marty has already bought enough I am good to go until next year. I hope they have your roof all fixed for you. I haven’t cranked on my heater yet and it’s funny I think it is so chilly when I get up but it’s still been around 70 – 72. I am such a sissy when it comes to being cold. I think I will skip Halloween too. I might but some candy and walk around to the neighbor’s house that day and give them some candy for their kids. It’d be good exercise and then I wouldn’t feel bad.

Pam, good for you going to curves so many times while being so busy. I sure like to buy clothes at Kohl’s when I have my extra percentage off coupon. That’s a lot of emails. Poor Marty gets about 200 emails an hour during work days and that is after his rules and filters have cleaned a lot of them out. He is always getting complaints about you never answered my email. I wonder why.

Laters,
Marcy

So far this month have been busy working and gotten way behind on my emails, yesterday they were over 700. I am slowly working at getting them down and goal is to be below 400 tonight.

Still going to curves 4 to 6 times each week, but last week only made twice because of subbing during the day and working at Kohl's in the evening on Tuesday and Wednesday last week and then crashed on Thursday when I got home from school.

Time is really flying by for sure. I am glad you are getting so much enjoyment out of your new Kindle, Marcy.

Today my roof is getting replaced or at least most of it is. They are ripping off the old roof today and will finish that tomorrow and start putting down the shingles. What a relief that is and the bid was an affordable one.

I have been weatherizing again. I bought covers for my air conditioners, an adhesive weather strip for the bottom of my front door, and got some spray foam caulking. I went out Sunday night and turned the outside lights on and took my flashlight and even caulked around the windows and air conditioners at about 10 pm.

I've had my new heater on, too, but it is warming up again now so I probably won't use it tonight.

I have been trying my hand at living on a minimum of expense for food. I had stored back rice when there was a shortage so I have been preparing some really good rice meals (if I must say so myself as I surprised myself with how good they have tasted.) But then maybe anything is better than TV dinners, LOL.

Last night I made rice (seasoned with Cavendars), and sauted mild sausage, onions, and a bell pepper together. I topped the rice with pepper jack cheese and then poured on the rest to melt the cheese into the rice. Heated it in a microwave and wow!!! I also had Cajun rice and crab meat, etc, and chicken and rice with veggies, etc. I might as well use this rice up, save money, and eat well. (wink) I am exercising portion control, though.

I was on a real food diet with rice before once and lost lots and am wondering now why I ever got off it and went back to the junk. I had forgotten how good it tasted.

At least I have had several good days now. I am really thankful for them. Tomorrow I take my mom to the doctor while they are working on my roof.

I think I am going to skip Halloween this year. It always turns out to be a reason for me to eat way too much candy. Then I will just have to worry about Thanksgiving and Christmas, which I may skip, too, as they will remind me of my husband. I am really so not looking forward to the Holiday season.

Well, got to run. Everyone, think happy this week.

Hi everyone. Can you believe it is October? Like 2 months from Christmas? This month starts the holiday festivities – Halloween candy, then Thanksgiving eatathon and then we are in to Christmas parties. How do you try to keep those calories at bay? What tricks do you use to try and maintain during the holiday?

I saw a commercial today that was quite funny. It said the worse part about Halloween was giving away your Reese’s. I for one take all of my left over Halloween candy to work and it disappears rather quickly that way.

As always watching portion control usually works but some things are best left alone if you can’t stop eating them once you start.

We’ve had a very busy few days. Marty got back from his business trip on Thursday. I picked him up at DIA and we went to a Comedy Works in Denver that night. It was quite fun. We didn’t get home till after 11:30 that night but we enjoyed ourselves.

Friday we went out for dinner. Saturday I cleaned house (I always like to say I clean my house once a month whether it needs it or not) then we went to Best Buy and got me a Kindle 3. I really like it. Once I realized I could read all the books Marty has already bought it was a no brainer which reader to get. The contrast on it is SOOO much better than my Sony Touch. I sold my Sony Touch to a lady at work. Last night was movie / popcorn night. This morning I headed south again to meet up with a friend of mine and her mom who are here from Montana visiting relatives. I spent a few hours with them. I made tacos for supper.

Char, I am so glad you got a good bid on the roof. I hope they get it fixed for you soon. How nice your new neighbors had you over to eat. I didn’t think I’d like an ereader but I am taking to it very quickly. We are still getting near 80’s in the day but at night it sure cools off.

I hope to see the comet soon.

Have a great week.
Marcy

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday was a really good day. I got a really good bid on the roof and everything worked for once all day long. What pleasant relief that was!!!

Today I had dinner with my new neighbors. It was very good and I really appreciated them inviting me to eat with them and their visiting family. However, I am sure it didn't do good things for my weight loss program.

Marcy, Sorry about your family...I know the feeling. I hope everything has settled some. Also hope your ring turns out okay. I think I would never get used to reading my books on a reader. I notice when I read on the computer I miss a lot more than I do with a hands on book. I guess I am just too old and was not raised with it. I never did well in the speed reading tests they used to give us projected on to a screen, either.

It is coolish here today. Typical autumn. Got to run and get things done so I can go to my moms.

Have a good weekend everyone.
