Hello. When I was around 23-24 yrs old, I swiched almost over night from IBS-D to C. I've recently been dealing with it by drinking smoothies every other day with soluble fiber powder. It's really been a great for me. We just do fruit smoothies with a banana, frozen strawberries, ice, oj, milk, fiber powder, and protein powder. Sometimes we used different fruits. Tastes great and keeps things somewhat moving. Not sure if it would help you in your time of stress. I do agree with you that D was easier for me than C. I spent the first 20-something years of my life that way and preferred it to this.

This will sound stupid - but I eat 16-18 fresh blueberries everyday with breakfast. I don't particularly like blueberries (store bought always taste nasty) but they keep my digestion moving along. I can't eat prunes or any dried fruit so was happy to find these work well.

They don't seem to have the same effect on anyone else in the family however, so its probably just me and my wacky digestion. And yeah - if I eat too many of them, then I'm in trouble.

I am taking LOTRONEX for diarrhea and it is a miracle. It has changed my life. I had diarrhea everyday of my life. I can't say enough good about this medication. If you are where I was please try this medication. It will form your stool like perfect, just like Dr. Oz said the stool should be for every healthy person. If you ever have constipation to the point of a problem, this medication is NOT for you. I hope this makes a difference in someone's life.

DEB, SORRY I CAN'T BLAME ANYTHING WHEN I DO THINGS LIKE THAT! ALTHOUGH IT DOES SEEM TO RUN IN SPURTS. SOME DAYS I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT. MY MOM USED TO SAY THOSE WERE DAYS WHERE YOU WERE MEANT TO DO AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. I'M REALLY BEGINNING TO THINK SHE WAS RIGHT! emoticon

All good advise. I made an appt with my doctor so i can acquire medication that will help me stay OFF the potty.

If i can just shake my stress.. most of this goes away..

Tonight.. i bought me a new picture for my living room to "make me feel better".. when i checked out i realized my atm card was missing.... so. when i went to get in the car.. i forgot the picture leaning against my car.. and left it there..Sooooo, I get to the bank..and go to cancel the ATM card..and they tell me i LEFT it in the ATM machine.

i cant think anymore..

So the doctor is a good idea

If you chose to get a note from your dr. that you have a health issue and need to use the restroom many times. This will go into your file and then if they let you go or get more aggresive you have a case. You can also go out on disability until it gets straightened out.

Make sure you have a change of clothes at work (underwear+ light pads) Place the light pad by your rectum in case of an accident, or the depends out now don't crinkle or make noise.

I took 2 Lomatil in the morning and it slows up your system.

Good luck!

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

One day I won't be able to do this, but today is not that day

11-19-09 emoticon YOU DO KNOW THAT WHAT THEY'RE DOING IS HARRASMENT, DON'T YOU? I'D SUGGEST GETTING A LETTER FROM YOUR DOCTOR (COPY IT FOR YOURSELF) STATING WHAT'S WRONG & HIS TREATMENT OF IT. ALSO THAT STRESS IS BAD FOR IT. INSIST THAT IT BE PLACED IN YOUR FILE. BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY SOME PLACED THINK THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING, BUT THEY CAN'T IF YOU STAND UP FOR YOUR SELF.

I NOW HAVE TO GO & GET MY BLADDER TESTED AS THE DOCTOR THINKS THE SURGERY I HAD LAST YEAR FOR THE TWISTED ITESTINE SOME HOW MESSED UP THE PREVIOUS SURGERY I'D HAD ( BLADDER TIE UP-SLING). IF HE HAS TO DO OPEN SURGERY THAT WILL BE THE 5th TIME I'VE BEEN CUT OPEN. I TOLD HIM THEY MIGHT AS WELL PUT IN A ZIPPER! AND I HAVE THE WORRY OF MORE SCAR TISSUE! emoticon

Sorry to hear about your issues at work....that's crazy! I just recently about three weeks ago was put on Zoloft for anxiety. I'm not depressed but the anxiety helps with the IBS-D I've been dealing with now for 5 years. Good luck hun.

Linda is saying what I was thinking. A note from your doctor verifying your condition and stating that you are being treated just in case it should come up again. Sad that you should even have to consider this, but in this day and time you have to cover yourself.

Twisted intestines? Now you've given me something else to look up. I didn't know this was/could be a problem???? Good grief!

The reason that I suggest psyllium supplements is because it has the highest amount of soluble fiber vs. insoluble fiber. www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber1.asp

I am very sorry about the issues at work. I can certainly understand why you were mortified. I no longer work outside the home but I truly remember the embarrassment of going to the bathroom over & over. I sometimes took different routes to get there...as if no one noticed!! I wonder if you should get some type of statement from your physician. If you had one and were terminated perhaps you could fight a termination b/c of your medical condition. It is just a thought.

I did tell the boss i have IBS. Which didnt phase her.

i have been thinking about flaxseed and apple pectin.

but.. the white granule fiber stops me up for some reason.. even if i drink a gallon of water.

I keep seeing people on here with twisted colons. As diarrhea is easier on me than constipation. I wonder. the more i read, the more i think.

I do know that my weight has made this 10 times worse than it was.

Bless your heart! As if having IBS isn't enough having to put up with that??

I have just been diagnosed w/IBS-C. My problem is that I can't go....ever. Almost never.

I have been reading quite a bit about Soluble Fiber and they say that is the best fiber for IBS both the C & the D. Since it binds everything together and helps it pass smoothly.

I have a protein shake that I drink and have begun to add Soluble Fiber to it. I have read lots of good reports of people taking SF supplements.

this would include Ground Flaxseed, psyllium husks, glucomman, and apple pectin.

Me personally, I am taking a mason jar filling it with water and adding 1-2 TB each of ground flaxseeds, psyllium husks and apple pectin. I let it sit over night and SWELL up. My shake which tastes kind of like pumpkin pie contains 1/3 c sweet potato,
scoop 100% egg protein, water, stevia & agave nectar,
pumpkin pie spice & cinnamon AND 1/3 C soluble fiber mix. I blend it and drink it. So far so good.

If I were you I'd try to get some psyllium husk supplement pills and several bottles of water. They say you have to increase your fiber intake slowly or you will get gas, bloating etc....Insoluble fiber can do the same thing.

Do a search on IBS-D and see if you can find anything including better suggestions.

Did you tell her that you have a medical condition that you are working on??

Ohhh.. i so do enemas when the going gets rough constipation wise.

I think im going to be MORE mortified if i accidentally have a boo boo from being afraid to go tho.

Honestly.. im considering doing what my doctor advised.

Going on Antidepressants. I avoided it.. cuz dang.. when i was diagnosed.. i was NOT depressed.

But my workplace is very depressing for the last year.

Im also considering a new job.(not that ive found it yet).. :))

Sorry to hear your coworkers are not understanding or compassionate. I have given in and I do fleet enemas. My gas is much better and I feel better. The GI doc said to go ahead and do them if they make you feel better.

After three day of not going your body will absorb the water and toxins in your colon. Then you will be feeling really tired and ill.

Only a suggestion. Good luck

three days ago, I was asked to the office by my new boss.

She said there were issues with me "hanging out" in the bathroom!!!

They assume im just sleeping on the john..

So.. I WAS MORTIFIED

Must we say.. "jeez i got the riah today.. do you mind if i sit down in the bathroom for a while??? "

My job cut my hours about 8 months ago and my bouts of "D" come OFTEN now.

So... since this meeting with her... i got all tense and now im constipated .. i cant do ANYTHING but pass gas. ive been eating mostly veggies for 3 days now. and i feel so much pressure i think im gonna die.

Plus.. SINCE im in trouble (with the boss) they are watching me. i cant walk by the bathroom without them eyeballing me.

Anyone else have issues like this?
