I walk as early as i can in the morning before it gets too hot! Then, if it's not too hot in the evening- I'll walk again once my sister is home from work. Never in the heat of the day:)

hide in the tv room..it is downstairs underground so cool..My club is AC so that is a motivation to get there on hot days. Didn't get there today though...There is also a swimming pool there. So if I get real motivated, I can get a swim in too. Today I just went outside, gardened in the shade, took a cold shower and then read a book this afternoon...

Ceiling fans, and oscilating floor fans. NO AC in house. We live on a high ridge, in a saddle, so we have nonstop year round breeze. If I open windows on back of house a few inches, and open windows on front of house a few more inches, we create a partial vacuum and air moves through house naturally. And we have lots of trees, that helps. Lots of ice tea (UNSW for me) and if is get too warm in house, we move operations down into basement. Always cool.

But, with a 16 year old son with Down Syndrome, I guess you could say that I've been teaching special education for that many years?...lol

With 2 small kids we don't go to many parties that aren't kids birthdays or the holidays. But I'll do the same thing I did/do on Weight Watchers, eat & fill up before the party on things I can and want to eat. Then at the party I'm not hungry and I can graze on the veggies/fruit without feeling like I'm depriving myself since I'm already full. Alcohol tends to not be a problem since most of them don't serve it....lots of kids around. But, if it is, it's usually wine & I'll have a glass. Since I'm not much of a drinker anyway, holding myself to one glass isn't a big deal.

Parties are usually easier for me to deal with. I am a picky eater, so I usually don't have many options to indulge on. Also, I do not like to have a full plate when eating around a lot of other people, so I usually eat less than I would normally! If I had a party every day- I'd be in a lot better shape:)

I try to stay with my plan. Since I am trying to avoid wheat and dairy, there are usually not a lot of things I can eat there...I stick with meat at these kind of things. Even though I normally would prefer to eat a more vegetarian kind of diet.

I try to head to the veggies first and fill up on more healthy foods first. I do not drink much, booze that is, but I do indulge in soda from time to time.

Parties ARE sometimes a "safer" place to eat things that we normally don't eat elsewhere. Sometimes it is easier to have a taste or a couple spoonfuls with people around than alone. Plus at a party the leftovers stay there!

I have a tendency to fail at parties....so I try to hold back during the day or two before the party, to give myself some wiggle room. I tell myself to only eat the veggies and fruit that are there, but there's always something new that looks just delicious. I refuse to take away these pleasures in my life, I just make sure that I can accommodate them.... emoticon

I agree. When I am with a group I don;t want to talk about "my food" but usually end up talking recipes, cause that's the kind of folks I party with usually. Sometimes, I will limit myself to 1 TBSP each of several interesting foods, so I get just a taste, but with limits. Usually there is fruit or veggies to make the most of my plate. And if there are deviled eggs, I will have a half. Guilty pleasure.

I like to take something that is user friendly for myself and prepare enough for all. If I know from experience it will be difficult to get something to drink there, I slip my own beverage into my purse and discreetly fill my glass with diet pepsi, etc. I like to focus on the people rather than the food.

If I'm hosting a party, I fix a variety of healthy choices to suit all commers. If I am going, I drink lots of water while I;m there, try to make veggie or light protein choices, and most parties we attend include bringing two or three dishes to share, so that is a big help.

I'm going to one today. I'll take my own non alcoholic beverage, eat before I go, and only eat veggies/fruit while I'm there. If those aren't options I won't eat while I'm there.
