I've been using kinky twist to help me transition since I've only been perm free for about 4 months but I love them.

I co-wash like every two days and I do a baking soda wash every week or two when I notice I am scratching alot. I like to spritz my hair daily with a mix of leave in conditioner, water and olive oil and my hair is growing like a weed that has been denied water and sunlight!

I work up a good sweat atleast 5 times a week and my twist keep up with me just fine. And I haven't noticed an odor at all. But I do have to redo my twist every 3-4 weeks. By that time I tend to have about 3/4inch of new growth and it starts to twist underneath the extensions I've added and I am worried that my new growth will try to break if I dont get them touched up often enough.

I miss micros but they have been nothing but trouble and looked bad with all the swimming and water stuff that I tend to do.

There are several products that can be used to twist and it works on all types of hair. My aunt is transitioning and I twisted her hair with a leave in and her twists and twist out looked wonderful. I am learning to use more natural products on my hair and it seems to work better than anything else. I co-wash with Suave Coconut Conditioner,Coconut oil, Shea Butter, and Aloe Vera gel.I know as permed individuals we ran from water but distilled water is also my hair's best friend. Try spritzing with water, and the coconut oil to seal in the moisture and add the Aloe Vera gel for a more defined hold. I will hit 2 years natural in June and I am still learning what works and does not work for me. Visit Youtube and their are several individuals that make video's on reviews and styles for natural hair. I hope this helps.

I have locs and tie my hair upwith a doo rag when I work out. I keep it on until my hair dries to keep it from geeting too fuzzy. I cleanse my scalp in between treatments. I get it retwisted every three weeks or so. I have had no problems with odor.

all this talk about twist I'm getting so tempted to try it. I was just asking my daughter who twists her sons hair how did she think mine would look? she said maybe we should do a test run. as i mentioned in my intro i haven't permed since oct. '09 and my hair is long with still some texture that is enhanced & fluff resistant with product on it. a lot of trial and error searching for the right product & i still don't think I've found the right stuff -- when i leave the house its all good but by 10 a.m. i'm in a high rubber-banded-wavy-poofy-fluff. not the best look! any suggestions? p.s. i'm salt & pepper too (more salt than pepper) :-/

I wore them in my first months of working out but I am working up more of a sweat. I two-strand twisted my hair yesterday. I will see how it goes tonight.

I do two strand twists and have no problem at all. I wash my hair twice a week as well with the twists in. Another option is to just do wash and go's.

PURPLEBRAIDS,
I hear you. I swear by cotton bandannas to catch the sweat, and also use lavendar scented witch hazel to freshen up my scalp between washes. I have dreads, and often use peppermint shampoo to keep the smell sweet.

I switch between twists and braids. Right now I have really big twists with rubber bands near the scalp & the ends.

I work out about five days a week and my two strand twists hold up just fine. I rinse and wash them with no problem. to minimize my tangles I sort of untwist about a half inch of the ends then wash. I can twist them back or leave them.

I am the thread killer! Fear me!

Thanks!! I am hoping we have this product in Arizona. I am really considering a second big chop. I am enjoying working out but I am getting a lot of knots and my stress spot has reappeared. I HATE the uneven parts in my hair.

Hey ladies! I spent about 10 bucks in the dollar store buying the cotton bandannas in about every color. I tie one on before I work out so it can catch the sweat and I'm good to go. I'm locking right now and I go to my hairdresser every other week, so on the weeks I don't see her, I cleanse my scalp (we know that sweat holds odor) with Organic Root Stimulator's "water-less" shampoo. It's like hand sanitizer for your scalp and it has a lilac like scent. Hope this helps.

I started wearing braids because I sweat my hear out regardless (personal summers and night sweats emoticon ). My hair is short and I'm trying to grow it out so I can locs. Maybe you can get a nice scarf and tie around your head which will contain your hair and catch the sweat.

Good Morning Everyone,

I pray that all is well and we are continuing to make changes with our weight loss goals and challenges.

I just wanted to know what you guys are doing for natural hair when you workout more than one day a week? I have worn puffs and Afro's and my hair looks a mess. What styles or care are best for a dripping sweat natural head?
