Okay, one more quick thing before I go. I get Oprah's quote of the day and this was the one for today. I think it's very fitting for the journey all of us are on here at spark:

"The secret of making something work in your lives is, first of all, the deep desire to make it work; then the faith and belief that it can work; then to hold that clear definite vision in your consciousness and see it working out step by step, without one doubt or disbelief."

Good morning all! Had a really great day yesterday. I exercised for the first time in almost 2 years. Boy am I feeling it this morning! You can read about it on my blog if you want.

Also spent a few hours in the emergency room last night with my baby boy. We thought he might have apendicitus, but it's only a virus. He feels much better this morning. He did get a doctor's note that says he gets to miss 2 days of school, so he's pretty excited about that.

I'm off for the day. Going to walk again this morning. Hope the blister I got yesterday won't hurt too bad!!!

Good Morning!
Lynn Thank you for the info on Dr. Bottenburg... Hubby has a doctor he goes to. I will let him go to the doctor first and see if I need to go for antibiotics or if it just has to run its coarse..

Aangle - Welcome back! You can do it.

I hope everyone has a great day! Hopefully the sun will shine today.. it was so dark yesterday.

NOLIMIT4US, if you read NVSheila's post, she only steps on the scale once a month.
I am the one who checks daily and for a good reason. I am not obsessed by it, never have been, but it tells me if and when I have to either exercise more or lower my food intake. Most of the time, I will track my food intake for a while (journaling) to see when and if I overeat. I was out of town over the Holidays and, of course, my weight was up when I returned.

I belong to a private SP team, and we report our weight every Monday. So anybody has the option of stepping on the scale, only once a week.

Have a good week, All.

Hi everyone...I'm not new but starting over. I fell off the wagon over the Holidays. Now I'm climbing back on. emoticon The eating, logging, blogging part starts today and the working out tomorrow. We have a nice gym at work and I need to get into it.

Hey Toni I go to Dr Bottenburg he is located on Mountain and Division. I have been going to him for 8 years and him and his team are great. He really cares. He got my diabetes in control in less than a year. Which is great. Nanna

Good Morning all... just poping my head in before I drag myself off to work.. Still sick.. I think I may have to break down and go to the doctor for this one... I have not been to a doctor in over 10 years.. I do not like them and do not trust them.
I hope everyone is having a good day! Once we get past monday.. the rest of the week is down hill.

NVSheila- I don't know what program you're doing but I see the other side of weighing in: obsession with numbers. Everyone has a different opinion, but whatever motivates you is important. Maybe every 3 weeks would get you away from the anxiety of focusing on it.
However, if you're focusing on the healthier eating/exercise "behaviors" the weight will come. More importantly, the circumference measurements, clothes sizes, pulse rate will all decrease (this is far more indicative of health than a number on the scale). Weight is a more accurate representation when viewed with other health measurements in the context of long term trends. Everyday measurements (especially in we women) tend to fluctuate due to many physiological factors.
I think your MOST important realization in your statement was, "No matter what the number is, I won't give up". That is the persistence that will get you to your goal and help you to maintain! Way to stay positive after the holidays. They are tough for all of us.

It looks like KITTY joined the New You Boot Camp. I had signed up, but was bombarded with emails from everybody who signed up. Nobody seems to know how to access the daily 10 min. video. I did, and it stopped after 52 seconds and thought it would reload, but no such luck. It seemed more trouble than it was worth. I quit on the first day!!!...and believe me, I am not a quitter. Since I am involved with another challenge, I will work the boot camp from the side lines. Maybe, once I know how to maneuver through the maze better, I might join the next one.

KITTY, let me know how you like it. I will try to do the 10 min. video, as much as I can, and I am doing cardio, daily, anyway.

Good Luck to All this week.

Good Morning!
Hope all are well this morning. I am still sick as a dog... got maybe 3 hours sleep last night with my throat and all the coughing...
Today will be a day of rest again... I really am ready to kick this stuff to the curb. 4 weeks already is enough!
Have a great day all!

I do have a good program that's working very well for me. The theory behind a lot of the program is to break free of addictions (sugar, flour) and addictive behavior (the scale, emotional eating). They want the fit of your clothes to be your guide rather than the scale.

It does make a lot of sense to me to not weigh very often, especially at this stage of the game. For some people the scale actually gives them permission to overeat. If you get on in the morning and your weight has gone up (even a half a pound), you might throw your hands up in the air and say, 'what's the point' and binge all day. On the other hand, if you get on the scale and your weight has gone down, you might decide you can overeat today because you've been 'so good'.

Keep in mind that I have a lot of weight to lose and am going to have to stay very disciplined to get it off. The habits I am changing are for life. I never will go back. So my weight WILL come off because I am sticking to a low calorie, sugar-free diet. The speed at which it comes off is what it is. Fast would be nice, but it's coming off no matter how long it takes. Right now, it's about discipline.

I can do hard things...With God's help, I can do all things.

Hello all,

I am actually new to the team this year. I was on it a while ago but then quit. Anyway, I'm glad to see that this group is still going. I live in Southwest Reno.

Marnie: I'm sorry to here about your job. If your looking for a job I work for a "temp - direct hire" staffing agency, I could help you out if you wanted to fill out an application and have you talk to one of our recruiters. Just let me know, I'd be happy to help anyway I can.

I'm looking forward to being healthy in the New Year. I have recommitted to myself a this year. I hope to meet you all at some point, can never have to many friends.

Take care,
Shari

NVSheila, interesting to read that you only weigh yourself once every 6 weeks. I weigh myself daily, so I can cut back and increase my exercising, accordingly. I think we all put on a little weight over the Holidays. The most important thing is that we go right back to the work we need to do. You seem to have a good program, so stick to it. You might want to weigh yourself more often once you have reached your goal, to keep it there.

Have a good day.

Thanks Marlis,

I'm getting very excited about my weigh in. 6 weeks is a long time to wait in between weigh ins. I'm so curious I'm about to die... But discipline is what these changes are about, so I will wait.

On the other end of the spectrum, I'm scared that the number won't be "right". It never is you know...
I have no idea what to expect. Christmas week was not my best, but not my worst. I have to believe that number doesn't really matter. Which it doesn't in the big picture. I haven't reached my goal weight, so it's just a number. I'm not about to quit whatever the number is...

I can do hard things...With God's help, I can do all things.

I too received an email alerting me that there is a Team Nevada. I had no idea that so many are from the Reno area. I moved here (Southwest Reno) from California, about 5 years ago. I hope when the weather improves we can get together and maybe go on a long hike or something like that.

I belong to another SparkPeople group that moved from ediets to here last February when ediets sort of fell apart. I understand they are back in business, but nothing like we had before.

I am starting a new two-week challenge for my other group this coming Monday. We alternate with captain duties. Everybody will pledge the amount of minutes they want to work out over the two-week period and the amount of weight they want to lose. In the end, I will figure out who has the highest percentage in either category. I will also bug them with articles (to make them think!) and will encourage them daily of sticking to their program and drinking 6-8 8oz. glasses of water. Whoever wins, will a get a small token prize.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Marlis

Way to go on the ride! Hope the lotto tickets are good ones!
Definatly more time to work out! I could use some of that... I have been thinking about cutting my hours down at work, to make the time for ME. Winter is our busy season so not too likely for another couple months.. we will see though.
Hope everyone enjoyed their New Years...
I am glad to be back to a somewhat normal schedule now. Time to get back to business!
Have a wonderful day all.

Oh yeah, lots of free time. I am trying to be positive though ya gotta admit, seeing your job go away is a scary thing.

We took our road bikes out for a new years day ride, did a 26 mile cruise, crossed over teh cali line in Verdi and bought lotto tickets. LOL!

My boyfriend says I'll be a running machine with all the free time I'll have for awhile. And even with winter, running is very doable... living in a city has been awesome. I got used to the Elko winters.. BRRR!!

Sorry to hear about the job. It's scary all over.

Just think...gives you more time to work out, right?
A little bit of a positive?

No hangover for me. I notice as I get older, I can't really drink...plus I can't stand having a hangover... blah.

Hope you all feel better!

Elaine I as well have lived in Reno and Carson my whole life. We do have our good a bad days... truth be told that until I really got into the exercising I always prefered the winters before... now I want to be outside all the time.

Have a wonderful night all.

Toni

Ooh, I want to try snowshoeing this year! It sounds fun. I'm all set for cold weather biking, too -- got a bunch of warm clothes for Christmas to that end. :) All I'm missing are tires that can handle snow and ice.

Have you gone to any of the Reno Critial Mass rides? I think they have one a month. I work too much to really get into Reno bike culture, but it's so awesome that it's growing so fast. Can't go through downtown without seeing a dozen people on bikes, not even at 11 pm!

Toni, I've lived in Reno my whole life and I'm STILL a wuss about the winter!! And it's not like it gets into the negatives that often here.

Sheila, congrats on your daughter's wedding. Are you going to post a couple photos of wedding finery on your Spark page?

Hey Toni! How'd the dentist go yesterday? Are you feeling okay?

Today's the big wedding day. My sweet daughter had a really rough time after she got divorced. After a few disastrous boyfriends, she finally found her prince charming.

I am truly excited that she's getting married (didn't feel that way last time). It's amazing when you find the right person how your life can be so much better. She is finally content. What more can a mother ask for?

I love the Meadows for snowshoeing. We took the snowboards there last week to try them out, it was a first for me... I LOVED it.

Nice commuter bike there. You'd dig ours, too. We should go for a ride sometime!

I'm so stoked, I don't have to be back at the office until Monday the 5th! So yesterday my bf and I went sledding in Mount Rose Meadows. What a workout -- between hiking up a snowy hill and hiking in those ridiculously heavy snowboots, my heart rate was definitely up.

Got a killer deal on snow pants at Mogul Mouse, too. 50% off! And they're for snowboarding, so they're really cute.

We're probably not doing much for New Year's, but I would like to go for a bike ride too. I don't think I've ridden my bike once in December.

I'm sitting here waiting to go to work, after a couple of days off. They were nice enough. Got in a good run yesterday, 10.75 miles. I'd hoped for more, but got a late start due to losing my cellphone, that was then returned to me after I'd reported it missing and filed a claim and all that. It was getting due to be replaced anyways. But my id was with it, so what a relief..I didn't want to deal with DMV. I actually ran comfortably in shorts yesteray... very cool stuff.

Anyone have plans for new years? We're either going snowshoeing, or if the weather is super nice, we'll take the road bikes out for a spin since the roads are pretty much dry and clear.

My daughter is getting married tommorrow and today is going to be busy. I have a lot of house cleaning to do before my parents get here. And then the laundry is pretty backed up due to Christmas. I'm glad my sons are here to help.

It's my daughter's and her fiance's 2nd marriage so she's chosen a more casual wedding. Only 50 guests, which is hard because they both come from large families. They have reserved a bowling alley / pizza parlor for their reception. It should be fun. I get to babysit all four of the grandsons for a few days afterwards so they can go on a small honeymoon.

I can't wait until January 5th when life gets back to normal!

On my other teams we have general chat forums that we can go into daily and talk about anything and everything. I thought it would be nice to have one here as well.
I hope everyones week is going well so far! I myself am getting a tooth pulled today, so I well imagine my nutrition is going to suffer today... will not be eating much at all. I will eat a good breakfast before I go though.
Have a wonderful day all!
