When I started eating keto - I was constipated quite a bit. I found magnesium is the key for me. I take 1 500 mg pill each night. If I do go more than one day without a BM, I take 2. That gets things moving for sure.

What I read (somewhere I don't remember exactly where) was to take 1 magnesium pill a night. If you get consistent BMs, that's your dosage. If you don't, add one. Then another. Etc. When you are consistently getting your BMs, back off one pill,

Now I go every morning like clockwork. Occasionally I miss a day. If I don't go the second day, I take the two pills and that always puts me right back to daily BMs.

our society has major issue NOT being able to talk about poop. It is really ironic. If you have an animal and there off, the FIRST questions is what are there stools like?

I am on the flip side of anal cancer.. I know an abundance about poop

Constipation would be my biggest Fear in starting this journey.. Today is day two and I am drinking water every time I think of it :)

I would rather be loose stools any day!

I loved this article. I used to use oatmeal but not on keto. Now I use 2 - 3 store brand stool softeners each night. I was using Metamucil until I see 5 gr. carbs per tsp. No way. There are tablets instead. Lots of water. Stat bike exercise Intermittent, where I make sure to keep my belly engaged.

I agree with the article that staying backed up can contribute to cancers - we have no idea what they are putting in our food.

Thanks for the article.

That was an interesting article Julia - and the last paragraph was the best paragraph:

"Keep in mind that anytime you change your eating habits—even when it's in a positive, healthy way—the body can initially respond with a slowdown in bowel movements. Give your digestive system a couple of weeks to adapt to the changes. Over time, with regular exercise, plenty of water intake and a well-balanced diet with the right combination of fiber, healthy fat and lean protein, you should eventually see an uptick in the frequency and quality of your bathroom visits. But if the constipation continues, it’s best to see a doctor to rule out any medical causes."

I am starting to track my BMs to make sure I go at least 2-3 times a week. After my colonoscopy, when I knew my GI track was squeaky clean, I ate. It was 5 days before I first went, but then have been going every day or every other day so I'm back on schedule.

I do think keto slows that down, and I have yet to find something that's not yucky or sweet or absolutely not keto, so I rely on magnesium and lots of water.

Anyone have a good chia seed recipe?
