My joint pain seems to get better or worse more gradually, over a period of 2-3 months, when I stay on the McDougalll plan or fall off the McDougall plan. But one thing I do feel within hours is tummy troubles. Eating off plan turns on my IBS like a switch. So we both have a strong incentive to stay on track!

That has definitely happened to me with salt and processed foods.

Thanks so much for sharing your lesson ... I'm a firm believer in learning in the classroom vs. learning on the field trip!

Hope you feel better soon! emoticon

My main reason for going back to the McDougall way of living is to control chronic inflammation and pain without NSAIDS. Last night, we ate meat for dinner for the first time in a few weeks. I think it's no coincidence that also for the first time in weeks, I woke up at 6am in terrible joint pain, and couldn't go back to sleep.

I've learned my lesson. If I want the pain relief to be permanent, the diet has to be permanent.
