right now it is 1230-1550.

I am going to up it soon, I have been doing the low end of my scale to get ready for a couple of weddings, but I get too cranky at this level, and am going to bump it up when I get to my goal of 100 lbs gone OR the weddings are over (whatever comes first, LOL).

If I stay around 1850, my upper limit, AND I exercise regularly and with enough intensity, I will lose weight. Staying at my lower limit, 1400, I would probably not exercise as much and I would probably cheat and eat things I don't record . . . and I would gain. Anyway, I'm just too hungry to exercise unless I get the higher amount of calories, and I don't lose, even if I don't gain.

The trick for me is staying at that range AND doing exercises, both cardio and strength, that challenge me (no leisurely strolls).

Between 1200 and 1500. Despite this I have been bouncing between 152 and 156 for about six months. I wish I could go below the 152 again. I have not been this big since I was pregnant 3 1/2 years ago.

My current range is currently 1490 - 1840. I tend to eat around 1550 a day, most days, and a little bit more on the week-ends. I do a minimum of 30 min cardio 5 to 7 days a week. I do not strength train, but I do Jillian's dvds, like 30 days shred. I am a slow loser, so on the weeks I do lose, it's between 1/2 to 1 pound.

The default SP range for me is 1,720 - 2,070. If I would STAY in that range, I would lose weight!

When I was counting calories, which I am not anymore, I went higher than SP. I was wearing almost a single digit sized jeans (pre-surgery) and my calorie range was well over 2000. I saw AMAZING results by following a 10% decifit. I lost maybe 35 lbs but over 70 inches and 6 jean sizes.

Food is a good thing.

1230 to 1580. That just doesn't seem like enough. I've been exercising more, but my calorie range is going down, probably because my weight is going down. I'm almost at my goal, thank goodness. I don't want a maintenance range that leaves me hungry.

It is interesting that we all have different reasons for choosing our calorie goals. I think it is great that SP allows us to create the program that works best for us.

Raven2feathers - how'd you come up with multiplying 10 times the weight you want to be? Just curious.

I've been having trouble figuring out how many calories I should eat. I run 3 days a week and burn approximately 600, 1000 & 1400 calories on those runs alone. But on my non-run days, I'm ashamed to admit I don't exercise much. I try to get in at least a 30 minute walk, but lately, between my schedule and this crazy heat wave we've been experiencing.... it's been difficult to do. I do do housework and such but then there's also one day a week I do nothing but drive and sit in the car for 8 or 9 hours. The point is, my daily calorie burn is not consistent and some days I require a lot more calories than others. Lately, I've just been eating when I'm hungry and trying to make sure that what I eat is healthy and nutritious. I haven't counted calories in ages. This system was working great for a few months but hasn't done much for me lately.

Anybody have suggestions on how to calculate my daily calorie needs when my burn is so inconsistent?

Thanks.

1300-1500, but to really lose, even with 30 min of cardio everyday, I need to stay right around 1300.

My SP generated range is 1200-1550 but as I can rarely stay in that range and it depresses and annoys me, I have increased to 1800 calories. I have more of a chance to stay in that range, feel accomplished, and still lose weight. But slowly ... hence I am on this team.

The calorie range I follow is the one SP set up for me. It's amazing how certain foods add up. I hadn't used it for a long time, but found lately that if I use it, I'm more likely to watch what I eat and make healthier choices. I wish I would have done this much earlier.

I just multiplied 10 by the weight I want to be, and it came up with 1800 calories a day, works for me and I'm dropping weight slowly but surely. I've been using this system going on 7 months now. Doing well and now this week incorporating some new ideas into my workouts, we'll see how it goes for a week and then see if I'm able to do it and keep with it, which is what I need to be doing, be consistent.

I've been using the default values from sparkpeople...but I have disabled my exercise goals so that it doesn't factor those into my daily caloric intake. Seems to be working for me. Also, I tend to eat a bit more on the weekends when I'm more active (running around after the kids, doing errands, yard work, cleaning, etc.) then on the weekday when I sit on my butt all day for work.

I may be in a different situation than most on this team since I have had gastric bypass surgery, but I have found for me that I can only take in 1,000-1,300 calories per day and still lose weight. This is probably partially due to the fact that I can't due much exercising. I can only walk since I just had back surgery. I also believe that the bypass itself is partially to blame as well.

Currently it is 1200 to 1550. I will increase that in a couple of weeks for a few weeks and then lower it back down. Rotating between current to 1800 to 2000.

Mine is 1,400 - 1,850. I was just plain hungry and going way over my calorie max when I had it set lower. Now I am consistently coming in under 1,900 calories. I'm in the Slowest Loser team, so I'm not in a hurry to lose the weight. I just want it to come off. When I set the upper limit to under 1,800 calories, I would eat things I didn't enter into my tracker, on the spur of the moment and quickly forgotten. I was going up in weight, not down. So I increased my upper limit to something I thought I could do. I've been consistent at sticking close to the 1,850 limit, slightly over and slightly under, but hovering right around there. With my new exercise routine becoming a habit (Thank You 28-Day Challenge for getting me back in the habit!), I think this will work. I lost 2 of the 3 pounds I regained so far.

How do you decide on your calorie range? Do you use SP recommendations? Lower? or like me, Higher?
