Since having children have not bought any for the house since we take the kids out to a safe Halloween site. If needed will buy some for their classes though.

No I don't. I always go over to my DGKs house, so I don't need to have it here. Candy isn't my thing, so I could probably have it in the house without going too nuts, but why spend the money when I don't have to?

Now Halloween cake or cookies would be a different thing altogether ...

Yes, we have plenty of gobblins in the neighborhood and it is fun to see them come for Candy. It is one of the ways, I watch our neighborhood grow in strength and character!

Carve out what is most important to you first, then allocate your day to others! I promise you and they will be better for this decision!!

Where we moved to is an area full of kids and I feel bad not handing out candy any more but we were eating way too much of the candy. My DH had eaten half the bowl the first year before trick or treat time even started! So we just avoid it. I would love to give out healthier home made treats but do not bother because it is not safe for kids to accept those. On the plus side we have started going out for walks on Hall-o-ween so that we can see all the kids dressed up! It is a ton of fun, and the best way to go looking at Christmas lights.

One day, one step at a time. We will succeed.

emoticon yes, my husband likes to have some in the house for home or work, when it goes on sale. Plus my son likes the special treat of knowing his favorite is at home- he's very good about limiting his candy eating maybe 1 -3 small pieces and the rest of the time he knows to eat fruits.

I try to limit my hand from wandering near those items in the house & keep fruit or healthy snacks at hand and in sight.

Yes... we have kids who come to the door.
To deal with my sweet tooth problem...
1. I buy it and put in in the freezer unopened. (I don't like frozen candy.)
2. I try to buy collections that I don't like.

Even so, I end up eating some of it. emoticon

I will buy some and donate it to the church for their fall festival. My days of answering the doorbell is over. Last year I bought regular size candy bars and was prepared to give a GOOD treat...I had 4 children! Guess who ate the rest of the Hershey bars and Peanut Butter Cups? emoticon

Azure Sky - that is a great idea, to buy candy that you don't like to eat. I am the worlds worst when it comes to candy. I love chocolate and want to have it in the house at all time. I sometimes even buy it to have at work so I can snack on it when I get in the mood, or when I get to sleepy to deal with work. As far as Halloween, I buy a variety of candy and usually it is all gone before the end of the night. When my daughters were little, I would help them eat their candy when they were busy and not eating it.

When I lived with my mother on Main Street we had very few trick or treaters, so we would buy one bag of something and if we needed more, we would raid what my son brought home! LOL! Since moving to my husband's apartment, I think we have had seven or eight kids in the last five years so it's not much of a thing here. We live in a back apartment and the kids just never seem to come to our door.

BUT when they do, they get boxes of raisins! As a person attempting to get healthier myself, I decided I was not going to "buy in" to the unhealthiness of this particular holiday by promoting bad-for-you foods to the kids. And when there are leftovers, they go into the breakfast muffins!

I usually buy some candy corn to keep in the house, but I eat too much of it, so not this year.
My husband gets the chocolate candy to hand out on Halloween just before we need it. This year I'm asking him to take any left overs to work.

Depending on when it falls... usually only one bag, for the neighbor kids. I live in a very small community, if I work that night I'm not even home, so no candy.

The Halloween candy and decorations have been in stores around here since early August. And Christmas decorations are sneaking in, too.

I do not buy Halloween candy. Anymore. I used to buy what I liked in case I didn't get any kids at the door. And I never did get kids - I haven't in 20+ years. So I'll save my money - and my health - and not buy candy this year.

Candy Corn... my kryptonite!! I usually buy a bag (or two) and weigh them out into half serving bags. I bring a bag with me to lunch. Even if I eat a second bag later- I'm still only eating one serving :)

This will be our first halloween in our house and there are a lot of kids in our neighborhood- so I think we'll have to buy candy. Before, we never had kids at our apartment.. so we wouldn't buy any.

I absolutely do not buy it. I don't have children nor do I live around many children so I opt not to buy it and tempt myself. This is a great topic because I have been noticing the candy out for about a month now. Halloween is the flood gates to the holiday season eating frenzy! This year I will try harder than hard to not go off my eating plan. I am
so determined to continue to lose weight as planned (5 lbs per month) throughout the holiday season. Good luck to you and everyone else!

I now live in an area with very few children and the community has a Halloween party, so I don't buy any Halloween candy.

Before I moved here, I used to buy the candy on Halloween on my lunch hour at work. I didn't open it until just before the scheduled Trick or Treat hours. The day after, I'd send it to work with my husband.

Just in case I thought I might be tempted - I'd buy candy that I didn't like.

The stores had Halloween candy on their shelves when I was in the States for my August vacation. I bought one small sack of candy corn to bring back to Africa with me with the idea that I could serve it to company sometime. Well, you know how that goes. The sack of candy is half gone already.

Do you buy Halloween candy? Do you buy it ahead of time and how do you store it without eating it? Do you start eating it before the end of the October? Do you avoid buying all Halloween candy so that it will not be in your house? Do you eat Halloween candy at all?

I know it's early for this discussion but the candy is already in the stores and I've already about done in my one little sack that I brought back to Africa. It just sounded like a timely topic for discussion on the Slowest Loser's team!

Enjoy the discussion (not the candy)!
