I just learned of this idea of a "Silent To-Do List", a concept introduced by Fumio Sasaki in his book "Goodbye, Things" The idea suggests that EVERY item in our home is sending out a message...and it isn't always a good message!

The dishes on the counter that haven't been put in the dishwasher yet are saying " clean me, put me away" - the clothes in the closet that you don't wear, or that don't fit - perhaps they are silently saying "why did you spend money on impulse purchases" or 'why haven't you lost weight yet?". The laundry pile that says 'wash me". The plants that say 'water me'.

We pick up all these silent signals and they overload us and dampen our energy.

On the other hand - Do you have beautiful plants or art that lifts you up? Do they give positive vibes? Do you have a special corner in your home that is "yours"?

The book has a lot about what minimalism is and is more about 'why' you might want to become a minimalist but this concept of things silently judging me is helping me look differently at my habits and at my stuff.

Take a walk through your home and see what messages your stuff is giving you. Is it encouraging you or is it making you feel defeated - don't ignore these messages. emoticon
