I got my dress at the "Wedding Show" (yes it was a sample-saved me $400), so I had to take it in the size it was in because I loved that dress (no other would do). The dress is a size 8 but converted to a lace up it will fit me at my size 12 (when I bought it). Well I used the whole lace up as an excuse to not workout properly and what not but...back fat is starting to be noticeable and I don't feel good about my level of activity so I'm on SP to help me fit back into and if I'm really lucky...I'll fit it as a size 8 rather than needing the lace up/corset style back.

Someday is today!

JACKIE - congratulations on your weight loss!! That's so exciting!! So I've lost about 15 pounds and over 13 inches from all over since I tried on my dress for the first time. My dress is a corset back as well and it still fits beautifully without any alterations - I just found I needed to pull the corset closer together :)

But if you are concerned about it, take it to a tailor and talk to them. I'm sure they can make it look exactly the way you want it to!!

I ordered a 14 beacuse my hips are wide. I wore size 10-12 pants when I ordered it. Ten lbs later, it's lace up and I'm still going to need it taken in!! Should have ordered smaller. But who knew? I think I'll wait til after thanksgiving to get it altered in case I put the weight back on! Does anyone know if the corset type top will alter well? I'm sort of afraid it won't look right, but I'm not gaining the weight back to fit into it.

I would love to be a size 8 or 10. Right now, I'm in a 12 comfortably.

ALLEY2BE, that's the same way my dress is. The lace up corset back is great! I've actually lost almost 20 pounds from the first time i tried on the dress and it fits awesome! You shouldn't have to take anything in at all! I only had a bustle put on mine and its fabulous!

My dress is a size 10. I specifically wanted a lace up dress because you can lose or gain 10-15 pounds and the dress will still fit! (hopefully I lose the pounds instead of the opposite :P ) Mine also had a ton of detail work so it would be terrible if I had to take it in at all.

The joy (sarcastically) with wedding dresses is you must buy/try them on 1 size bigger than you already are. Sad.

But my dress was ordered as a 2x, is big on me. I got in it for the seamstress and she took quite a bit in on each side.

So 1x for me, which in wedding dress speak is really an xl, I can accept that.

my dress is a 12. I can't get the zipper up all the way yet but by the time I hit goal, I will be able to. If I have to take the side seams in before the wedding, I will be able to with out much problem.

I'm aiming for a size 14 too. At my smallest (still 20lbs overweight) I wore a size 12 or 14. Now I'm somewhere in between a 14 and 16. I am scared to try on a wedding dress, but I think I should just do it. We're getting married in 7 months and I want things to coordinate with the style of my dress, so I feel like I need to go ahead and pick it out!

Also, the size difference on gowns for me could be the difference between is a misses and a women's gown. And I really don't like the way the women's gowns are cut. :(

This anxiety sucks.

I would love to be a 6 or 8 by the time my wedding comes around! That was the size I was at my healthiest, and it would be so great to be back there.

My dress is coming in this November. I wanted to order it in a smaller size but everyone told me not to. Now I know the dress will be too big and I'll have to have it altered. I'm concerned because there is detail work all over the dress and i don't want to lose any of it when the dress is taken in.

I should have listened to my gut and ordered the dress smaller!! emoticon

I do agree with e11teena she is so right about wedding dress sizes and designers. I actually surpassed my goal to my surprise I wanted to lose at least one dress size and I lost 4 by the time of my wedding. When I ordered my dress it was a size 8 (alfred angelo) I had to have it taken in to a size 4 and it was a corset style. Thankfully i had a great seamstress who worked wonders on taking the dress in without messing up all the detail of the dress.

If you've never been there you cant imagine how it feels, if you have you cant imagine how it doesn't....

So when I ordered my dress earlier this year, I fit into a Size 10. To motivate myself to lose some more weight I ordered it in a Size 8 with a corset back (in case I lost more than the size 8). Based on my measurements now, I actually could have ordered it in a Size 6!!! Since its a corset back, I don't have to get it altered and it fits beautifully, but I'm thrilled with the progress I've made!! Best of luck with all of your wedding goals ladies!! I know you can all do it!!

Just a word of advice, before you fix yourself on a number.... ALL designers sizes vary, and ALL of them run waaaay small. I am normally a 14 in clothing, and my dress I had to order as a 22! There was another dress by a different designer that I liked that would have been an 18 on me. I would set a goal for yourself to be a certain measurment, simply because designers sizes are all different and go by your measurments, not your normal dress size.
