Hiiii there Tess....just had a look at your looooovely webpage...what precious pups you have!!! And I so enjoyed Turkey through your eyes...most of the gals here have Turkish partners and that was the main reason for their love of Turkey...it is always refreshing to see someone from outside of the culture with no other connections than a friend or simple interest who adores the country as much as we do...

Its also great to have new members to help me get this little spot in Spark fired up again...

Would love to read a little bio over at the Introduce yourself to the team forum...and how about some goals...mine are pretty simple at the moment...am decreasing the calories by 500 cals..increasing the movement by 10 percent...trying to drink 3 liters of water daily (not too successful) and that is about it...

I work in an adult language school helping students to practice speaking english...am very happy there but lately retirement is on my mind...or at least part time hours....I feel like I am missing out on the best years of my life because I am ALWAYS at work and hardly ever at home in the evenings..the school( we call it a course) is open from 10am till 9:30pm...but actual class time starts around 1:30 or 2:30 until closing..so teachers are expected to work between 5 and 9 generally...grrrrrrr....if the students and the system werent so wonderful I would seek a day job somewhere....but I have no patience for working with children and private lessons are unreliable as an income...

Well off I go....take care ....enjoy the Turkish Tea :) there is always a semaver brewing:)

Merhaba, Tani! I'm so glad to hear from you.

I've been around SparkPeople for several years, but just joined "Friends of Turkey" yesterday. Indeed, the SparkPeople site can be overwhelming...even after all this time I'm continually discovering new features.

I was in Turkey Sept 16-Oct 6. A dear friend (from Jr. High!) has lived there for the past 3 years, teaching English. She absolutely loves it and I don't think she'll ever come back to the U.S.

I had a long list of all the places that I wanted to see, but only got to a handful. We stayed in pensions and traveled by bus...and after the 3rd or 4th bus trip I decided I'd rather stay in one place with short day trips than spend most of my holiday riding a bus. UGH. Next time I am definitely going to rent a car.

Anyway, I spent a few days in Istanbul, then a few days in Canakkale (where my friend lives), then we headed down to Selcuk / Efes and then on to Marmaris, where I rented a small gulat for our private mediterranean cruise for 3 days and 2 nights. It was INCREDIBLE!

I wanted to go to Fetiyah, Antalya, Cappadocia, Ankara, Bursa, Izmir, (just saw the bus station there!), and Usak but it was just too much bus travel. My ankles tend to swell up a lot after 4 hours or so on a bus...then they take a couple days to go back to normal!

I spent probably the majority of my holiday in Canakkale...I absolutely LOVE that city. I would live there if I could, most definitely! I also spent the day on the island of Bozcaada...I would DEFINITELY love to have my own vineyard and gift shop there and live out my days.

I fell totally in love with Turkey...the only problems I had were the stink of cigarettes (almost EVERYONE smokes! I just quit 2 years ago so it literally makes me sick) and the lack of use of deodorant with many of the men. Whoa! :o)

Anyway, I am planning a return trip in a year or so...maybe the next time I'll take my husband with me! LOLOL!

Hi Tani!

I just joined "Friends of Turkey" today...saw that it's realllllly quiet here. Then I went to your page and saw that you are on a cyber-break!

I'm glad to see that you're still peeking in and I look forward to getting to know you!

I just returned home after a 3-week holiday in Turkey. I can't WAIT to return - I absolutely love it there!

ciao for now,
~Tess
