Sorry I've been MIA for 3 days. My DIL leaves for China today and was a bit stressed so wanted mom time with me as DS was working all weekend and since. She's really concerned about taking the baby and leaving Chase (our 3 year old grandson) behind. And I just figured out that Chase is going to be with us for 13 out of the 21 days she's gone. So there's going to be a whole lot of grandma and grandpa time.

Also, John's car started making noises on the way to Vegas so he ended up turning around and driving home. I booked him a flight for tomorrow (I was worried about him getting home in time for a flight today) and I'm so glad he's going to be here to help out with Chase.

Got to get back on track. It was a bad food weekend. Didn't get any un-packing done so DDIL and the grandkids ended up eating out a whole lot which is really bad on the scale. We're keeping Chase in pre-school every day so I should be able to check in weekdays, weekends we will probably be in survival mode.

Janice, I'm so glad you're getting to the doctor. Do let us know how that goes.

Love all the de-cluttering talk. I used the move as a great tool for that, especially in my closet. When packing, I sorted all my clothes into 2 piles, the ones I never wear got sent to Goodwill, the ones I wear occasionally got packed in a box. The ones I wear daily, in a suitcase. I unpacked the suitcase immediately when we got to the new house. The box of clothes are staying in the garage where I can easily reach them. In the end of the year whatever is left in the box will be donated.

Sorry this is short today but I've got to leave for my DIL's house to pick her up and get her to the airport, then home to do sheets and towels so I'm ready for John tomorrow.

I love clothes and to prevent having too many I keep my rule of giving away something/s of equal size to what I acquire. I also always say "yes" to solicitations from DAV, ARC, and the like, which means I have a give-a-way bag at all times, that is regularly filled with things that need to move on.
One of my big ah-hah moments was when I was craving some online shopping. I decided to first check my closets and after filling a couple of big bags with edits, I noticed I had the same, if not better, happy feelings that I would have had anticipating the arrival of my new buys. There is something to the less is more sometimes.
Just had my shed cleared to accommodate the hardtop for my vintage car top...and now awesome convertible rides.
Indeed the easiest way to lift the auspicious feng sui of a space is to clean and declutter.
I love the tips COOLMAMA1,,,you have inspired me to go read the prior posts too.

QUEEN OF DECLUTTERING LOL!

I started de-cluttering in earnest when we moved to this apt nine yrs ago, it started with down-sizing going from a home to an apt big change!

I find if you try too much at once it gets daunting, so start in the worst area, a garage, an attic etc, get that under control, then start in the house or apt, I go from room to room, and get rid of things that are not being used, too small, too big. Some days I just do a dresser drawer, but if you allot 15-20 min each day it will all get done. I don't have the patience for that, I have to work till it's done then KEEP it organized.

I had a storage room in here that we paid 30.00 a month for, one day I said to Harry, " why are we paying for storage, we never use that stuff," so I called the kids, and told them to take what they wanted, and the rest went to charity!

The key, be strong, if you haven't used it in a year, get rid of it, you don't need it!
I always feel great, we just did Mom's apt, and I couldn't believe the stuff she was hanging on to, it was a big job, but a great feeling of satisfaction, we were lucky there was a young girl just starting out on her own, and she took all of Mom's furniture, dishes, pots, linens etc, a great start for her, and a good thing for us!

I found in the bathroom it was easier to buy baskets and keep things sorted, things for nails, hair, etc all in separate baskets, no more rummaging through the whole drawer, or under the sink. I bought an organizer for my Hair dryer, curling rods etc. Everything at your finger tips.

emoticon Janice, good luck with that doctor's appt. Eager to hear what might be causing the bleeding.

I'm getting a massage today and will experiment with reflexology. As I've mentioned before, my feet and legs have been giving me trouble. They have been bothering me for a few days and it has upset my walking plans. I reacted in my familiar way and have been overeating, which leads to other negative feelings. My friends have noticed that I'm walking gingerly and off balance. I am very vulnerable to falling, which is scary.

Besides being here and committing to my goals, I thought that a massage would be a good thing. I found a Chinese lady who lives near me and she does reflexology as well, so going to give it a try. Thinking that my feet would feel better if I had them worked on often for a while. Maybe my balance would improve, the tingling would lessen with better circulation. Taking action. Also, setting up an appt with a neurologist to see if anything going on. I think it is just aging and nothing can be done, but I'm open to suggestions.

This is a big lesson in being mindful and listening to my body.

emoticon Elaine, hugs to you and your Mom on this day.

emoticon Oh Jaiz, looks like we had a similar ME week.......So So. That is just not going to cut it for us. Let's get our rear in gear.....lol. What are you going to do to change it up? Back to basics? 3 meal ONLY? I'm here....let's buddy up.

emoticon Amber, I applaud you in your great week filled with successes. I'll be drafting you this week. You are flying, gf.

emoticon Ginny, hope you are feeling better. LOL at diaper and diarrhea being on the same page in the dictionary. You are a hoot, even when sick. Keep it coming. We need the giggles.

emoticon WG, sounds like you have a good plan for this week. Are you naturally an organized person? Seems like it. I work best when things are organized.

emoticon Susan, back home and already exercising, love it. Your anniversary and birthday celebration was a huge success. Did you get pics?

Okay, Roomies, my mind is decluttered and now for some physical decluttering. I'll be back to let you know how the massage went.

I'm up and about with our dear early ones, Janice and Elaine, this beautiful morning, ready to start my day. I've been feeling like I need to declutter. Guess it is an age thing in some ways in that when we come back from our winter in Florida, I always walk into the house and wonder who lives here with all this stuff!!! I've been decluttering for some time and want to get serious about every corner of my house. I did clothes when I returned this year and now time to hit another area.

It got me thinking that possibly this feeling of downsizing and simplifying could be a mindful practice. Here's what I've found out so far:

zenhabits.net/mindful-simplicity/

What do you think? Could we be mindful in our cleaning and caring for our personal space? If you find anything pertinent, please share. Where are you in your decluttering journey?

This is the ultimate declutter......decluttering our mind:

My first declutter of the day is my mind, getting rid of all those thoughts that were swimming around all night prompting me to simplify by taking action on them, making a plan. From those thoughts came a new aspect, new space in the Mindful Mansion.

I awoke with the need to get at it, to take action somewhere. I am thinking that the ultimate decluttering project is my garage. I've been putting it off for years, saying that it is something that I need Bill's help with and he has a hard time parting with anything! Now, I've decided to start with my area and see what happens.

How about you? Is there an area, a drawer, a closet that is nagging your thoughts to declutter?

I've started us off with some declutter sayings and articles, I challenge you to add to these and let's reinforce our decluttering mindfully mission.....lol. Bet there is a good deal out there in the way of information. We can add a 'decluttering mindfully' section to the Library.

How did your week go? It's time to look at what's working and what's not.time to look at what's working and what's not. This is for YOU alone to gauge your progress and to create and modify your goals, accordingly.

Not a good week as I did not focus on mindfulness enough.

Did you do your best to meet your goals? Not really

What were your successes? How did you soar? Successes few and far between!

In what ways did you stumble? Bought and ate several things that I should have left in the store.

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger? About 50%

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied? not always

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down? Not sure but thinking I am up.

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week? 325 approx

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week? Back to basics

What are your goals for this new week?

Keeping it simple
3 meals no snacks
Water, water, water
Meet Fitbit goals daily

Hey there guys! It's been kind of a crazy day. I am super tired -- for some reason I woke up at 4:30 and could not get back to sleep so I just got up and had some coffee, checked my emails and planned out my week. I started a new Fitbook so I am going to use that for the next six weeks and see how things go. I am down 3.25" overall since I started my last Fitbook and it feels wonderful! I still have yet to get a scale and I am okay not weighing for the time being. I am not sure I really have any plans of getting one any time soon. We'll see...

Today Chris got his braces on. He did great! They only put them on the top as his bottom teeth are really straight. Poor guy, I am sure he'll be feeling it later this evening. We'll see.

I didn't make it to the gym so I opted to workout here at home. I just used my resistance bands and did a pseudo workout with what I have here. I wasn't going to have time to go to the gym and make it for Chris's appt so I just did stuff here at home.

Okay so here is my stuff.....

How did your week go? It's time to look at what's working and what's not. This is for YOU alone to gauge your progress and to create and modify your goals, accordingly.

Last week was pretty good. I managed to hit my habits most days!!

Did you do your best to meet your goals? Yes. I sure did!

What were your successes? How did you soar? Successes were going to the gym and keeping active the other days (hello pool!)

In what ways did you stumble? I need to be working a bit more on whole foods

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger? Yes

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied? Yes

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down? Still no scale

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week? Not sure I didn't log it all. I was active every day of the week!!

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week? More whole foods

What are your goals for this new week?

Eat 3 to 4 meals a day, no snacking
Eat when hunger (waiting 30 to 60 min before eating)
Eat just enough at each meal
Focus on mostly whole foods
Lift 3 times a week, yoga twice and keep active
Track in my Fitbook and focus on the tweaks

Hello Roomies and all of my "mindful friends".
Don't know why I'm wiped out but I'm feeling it. Allergies? Could be!!
Week on a whole (scale of one - 10) was a 8. Not so bad. Spent a good deal of time going for tests to check what is "termed" as a "Gallop". (Layman terms= similar to a skip beat/or murmer) whatever. I had picked uo abug of sorts and went to a walk in medical. The Dr wrote out twp scripts for Meds I didn't need and refd me to my GP because he said I had a gallop. The GP visit ends in 4 scripts for review (chest exray) - Some type of Nuclear Scan with injections and breath thru the mask(crazy stuff) 2 more sonograms for whatever and I was freed. This took 2 days to get done and meanwhile the bug which I had weeks ago worked its way out in 3 days (without taking the meds that I didn't need (one was for nausea that I said to him was "my tummy feels a bit off" and the other was for gas(I said I was burping) My main problem that brought me there (Stuffy head and pressure behind the eyes and slight cough) was never addressed. He sent me off saying you have a stomach virus. Don't forget to notify your Dr about the gallop.
End result? My GP calls on Friday says the results came back negative. Everything is fine. We'll follow it up. F/U what?? A bug I picked up, that after 1 day of the dreaded diarrhea thing went on its way to bother someone else. I wish my old Dr wasn't called up to heaven!! : (
(Yes I know the F/U is for him to listen to see if he still hears a gallop on the return visit.
I can't deal with the new crews approach onhow to practice medicine. God help us all.
Do however know it's sometimes the better choice to let things work out themselves and chicken soup is good for lots of things : ) Oh and I'll share this odd finding: the words "diaper" and diarrhea" are on the same page in the dictionary.
Enjoy your week friends emoticon

Good morning. I've been busy this weekend with work and family matters. It has been stressful and sleep deprived but some times are like that.

How did your week go? It's time to look at what's working and what's not. This is for YOU alone to gauge your progress and to create and modify your goals, accordingly.

Did you do your best to meet your goals? I did most of the time. I'll admit the last 4 days have been just trying to stay upright.

What were your successes? How did you soar? the nice part is that while I didn't have a lot of time, I did have to eat when I was hungry and didn't have time to indulge other than that.

In what ways did you stumble? Not always the best choices of good foods to eat but I did get food inside.

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger? I did wait for hunger as there weren't a lot of choices. I ran until I was "starving" and ate a bit. Then ran.

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied? Not a lot of choice. It wasn't a satisfying meal, though.

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down? Weight was down but I released some water I was retaining.

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week? not nearly enough

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week? Taking better care of me. That might be hard as there is still a lot of stuff going on. Still, I need to think about my own needs. Not doing that is why I've struggled in the past.

What are your goals for this new week? Take care of me. Do some of the things on my "want to do" list and make sure there are some "go to" meals available.

Call me WG

How did your week go? It's time to look at what's working and what's not. This is for YOU alone to gauge your progress and to create and modify your goals, accordingly.

Did you do your best to meet your goals? I tried my best, but could do much better.

What were your successes? How did you soar? I cooked all our meals at home, no restaurants, and grabbing fast foods!

In what ways did you stumble? I had lots of company, so had some distractions at meal time!

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger? Yes

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied? yes, except for Sunday.

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down? Down

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week? 350

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week? I need to pre plan healthy meals, incorporate more veggies, less meat. Try to get more exercise in, and yes up my water , getting slack there too!

What are your goals for this new week? Healthy meals, water, exercise, practice being more mindful in all areas of my life!

Had a lovely Father's day with DH ( My dad has passed) the kids came up for a BBQ, his younger daughter Sheri, made him his fav pie, coconut Cream pie, and alas I got into it, it was so yummy, I had a full piece emoticon

Then later in the day we spent time with my Mom, she enjoyed a nice visit outside on the deck, my brother and wife dropped by, so was a lovely day all around!

Today is a gorgeous day, it is going to get hot, so I'm off for a walk outside in the neighbor hood, Have a great Monday everyone! emoticon

How did your week go? It's time to look at what's working and what's not. This is for YOU alone to gauge your progress and to create and modify your goals, accordingly. I have been doing good with Mindful eating and watching the portion control.

Did you do your best to meet your goals? Yes I did do my best to meet all my goals.

What were your successes? How did you soar? Success was getting past all the foods offered by DH. I made it soar by just saying "No thank you".

In what ways did you stumble? One day coming home from Target with an open bag of BBQ chips.

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger? Yes, I did stick with that hunger to arrive first before eating.

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied? Yes I didn't finish off the food left on my plate.....when I was full.

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down? I was the same.

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week? 200

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week? More exercise time and start tracking again. I missed a few days.

What are your goals for this new week?

TRACKING & MORE EXERCISE....Portion control..........64 oz water a day......7 hrs of sleep.

We will be traveling all day tomorrow as we head back to Reno. We had a great time this week, but are ready to get back home and get back to the gym and more normal eating. Today we were treated to lunch by a friend for our anniversary, and then we enjoyed dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. We did get a couple of walks in, as well.

Did you do your best to meet your goals?
My biggest goal was to enjoy this week, celebrating my birthday, our anniversary, and Fathers' Day. I did do that!

What were your successes? How did you soar?
I got in lots of walking and lots of activity with our granddaughter.

In what ways did you stumble?
I ate more than I should have, had several drinks, and enjoyed several desserts. I expect to get back to better eating as soon as I get home.

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger?
Yes

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied?
About half the time, but not so much with the celebration meals.

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down?
I didn't have a way to weigh. I will check on Saturday when we start our 5% challenge.

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week?
700

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week?
No sweets!

What are your goals for this new week?
1. Get to the grocery store as soon as we get home so I have good food choices.
2. Go to the gym Tuesday - Friday, walk or ride my bike Saturday and Sunday
3. Track food this week to be sure I am back on track.
4. 8+ cups of water daily.

Im not sure if I'll have time to check in tomorrow, but hope you all have a great day.

We had a lot of fun today. We met some friends for lunch in downtown Laguna Beach. We had originally met this couple about 18 months ago on a South American cruise. Since then, we have stayed at their house for a visit and they have stayed at ours. They travel as often as we do, so that's often our topic of conversation.

We ate at a favorite restaurant. I had a delicious salad, topped with shrimp and crab. After lunch, we walked around the downtown area. They had a music festival going on, so about every third or fourth storefront there would be a different group or singer playing. We also did some shopping, and I found a pretty top. It will be great for traveling.

Lady Carol - Congrats on the news of your grandson in the making. That is so exciting. emoticon

Elaine - Your breakfast sounded so tasty. Hope you have a fun party tomorrow. emoticon

Carolyn - Hoping your friend is right and that you are feeling better tomorrow. emoticon

Terri - Hi. Good to see you. emoticon

Vicki - Enjoy your celebration tomorrow. Good job with the healthy food selections. emoticon

Janice - We do love it here. Glad you got in another great walk. emoticon

Katie - Great advice about being proud of yourself along the way. That one took me a while, but I have to agree it's the way to go. I am with you on cookie dough, but I can't remember the last time I made cookies. I bet it's been years. emoticon

Hope you all have a great day tomorrow.

Hello to everyone! Happy Saturday. Gosh, mine's been a super busy one from getting our home ready for company for tomorrow's Fathers Day backyard bash. Everyone's coming, and the menu is pretty healthy, and that makes me feel very good indeed. I'm taking a few minutes to relax now, and then I will get myself out for a walk once the sun starts to go down.

I've had a good day in that I've made choices to let ME guide my eating today.

Lady Carol.....super emoticon to you and your family on the little boy that will very soon add great joy in all of your lives! emoticon

To all, let's keep making ME choices for our best health and fitness! emoticon

Oh how wonderful.....it's a boy....I'm so glad I stopped by the front porch....Yesterday I slowly walked up to see my neighbor to ask about what wedding cake maker her daughter used for her wedding. We sat for a bit of time on her front porch....it was so good. Had my surgery on Wednesday and a friend assured me that day 3 is over the hump day, so I'm hoping that's the case...I definitely know that if I do to much....I'm shot....so slow and steady.

Enjoy the front porch and companionship of friends here this day.

emoticon Good evening, everyone,

Just getting home after a great family day. What could be better than spending time with my kids, their kids, and the expected kid.....lol. Life is good and is only going to get better.

This is my son's first child and he is keeping our Kiser surname line going, so we are all thrilled.

It is a 2 hr drive to and from the city and it is very late, so will make this short.

Susan and George, What a lovely way to celebrate. Susan, hope you got lots of flowers with it being your birthday week, too.

emoticon Mizz Sue, almost time for company. Bet you are getting excited. I am.....lol, hope you get some pics. They will love the summer weather and all the fun things you will be doing. Enjoy every moment.

emoticon Vicki, you are right, we are building quite the arsenal to take on any challenge that is set before us. I LOVE all the fun images that are available to us on the internet to express our creative spirit. Really adds to our posts.

emoticon Jaiz, I agree, when I am off track the best way for me to regroup is to commit to only 3 meals a day. Sure puts the stops to the night time eating. We just keep moving forward, my friend, in spite of the bumps in the road. Good luck.

emoticon Pat, you stopped! That is super good. You were AWARE. I find that I need a good list of alternative things to do to deal with stress. Things that I can grab onto quickly, things that will distract me. Maybe coming here like you just did and verbalizing what is going on may be a good line of defense. Possibly, committing to evaluating my hunger 'whenever' I eat and stop mid-way to evaluate again. You caught yourself. We will get better at catching ourselves. Take care of business. You are capable and strong. Overeating will only slow you down and give you brain fog. This, I know......lol. I have confidence in you. Old habits are just habits......they can be replaced with productive, healthy, mindful habits.

emoticon Okay, must get to bed. I see that I am rambling.....lol.

Hello,

George and I are now in Laguna Beach, CA for three days to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We had such a great visit with our son and his family, and are looking forward to this weekend, too. Tomorrow we are meeting some friends for lunch and Sunday night we have reservations at one of our favorite restaurants for our anniversary dinner. Aside from that, we plan on lots of walking!

I don't have the best wifi connection here. I have read your posts, but as I try to write this I keep getting error messages. I'll just say hi to all and make up for it when I get home. Hope you all have a nice weekend. emoticon

Hello Ladies,

it was so hot today that sitting out on the front porch was just not feasible. Hubby and I went grocery shopping to 4 shops this morning getting different foods for our guests that arrive from Scotland on Monday They will be with us for 2 weeks.
This afternoon with it being so hot, I decided to stay indoors but I was baking all afternoon making banana bread and peanut butter cookies.

For dinner we just had corn on the cob with a salad and hubby grilled a couple of hot dogs (garbage dogs I call them) AS much as I hate hot dogs as they have no nutritional value, I did eat one because I was so hungry after working in the kitchen all afternoon.

The weather here is going to be rather hot for the next 2 weeks so it will be great for my guests who get a lot of rain and cooler temps living in Edinburgh. WE have lots of day trips planned and I am hoping to get to the beach a few times while they are here.

Sorry I have to slip away quickly now but I have not done my workout yet and if I don't get up and do it now, I will be crippled from sitting too long.

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend. I hope it is nutritious and active with lost of fun things to keep you moving.

Let the weekend begin....Yipeee!

I love the clipart my teamies are all posting.....I get so many chuckles and smiles out of y'all's contributions!

Thanks for the snacking tips, my friends. You are helping me to build an arsenal to fight those urges off. Pat, thank you -- I'm envisioning myself counting out pretzels, or measuring out a 1/2 cup of ice cream .... aha, self-discipline .... novel, new, but oh so necessary!

Elaine, your melon salad is so darn pretty. Am I really the only one who has NEVER, and I do mean NEVER made a bowl out of a melon?

Lady Carol.....love hearing about babies and families growing. For me, boy or girl, they are all such precious bundles of joy! What a great time for your family!

Jaiz....going back to the basics is the best way I know of to get back on track, too! emoticon

Sorry not to have been around much. It is just really busy around here especially now I have the garden to tend as well.

I am struggling to get back on track after having a crazy day on Tuesday. Yes Pat I am trying really hard not to let it become a crazy week. I a have decided that the best way to get back on track is to go back to Habit#1 and focus on just 3 meals. I know that if I do that I can have anything I want to eat and still be within my calories.

Pat - Chase's reaction to Sera is very normal and understandable.. That little Prince who ruled his realm has had his world shattered. He had all the attention from all his adult peeps. Now Sera has come along and Mom and Dad have to give her a lot of attention. It would be like your hubby arriving with another wife one day and now you have to share him! Jonas was exactly the same when Elijah came along. It is good that Chase is not taking it out on the baby. Jonas constantly saild "I don't like him!" And would lash out at the baby. Now that Elijah is older they play together and enjoy each other's company. Thank goodness. I know that my son and DIL made sure that Jonas had some one-on-one time with Mom or Dad each day and did "big boy" stuff.

Lady Carol - I can't vote for a boy or girl. A beautiful healthy baby is what I wish for them. My DD and SIL did not find out the sex of the twins ahead of time. His family wanted a boy to carry on the family name as there are no boys in this generation. We wanted a girl as Harriet only has boy cousins. It worked out perfectly with one of each!

Elaine - that melon bowl of fruit looks so yummy. My SIL came home tonight with 2 types of cherries and apricots. He has been in the Okanangan, the fruit growing region of BC and stopped at a fruit stand to get them.

Well I need to chop some veggies for my salad tonight

Well, I had a bad binge night. I did great all day staying present and then got a phone call at 7pm from John. A business deal we had going for Monday has problems. He's leaving tonight to drive back here so he'll be unavailable and I'm going to have to handle it. It's something complicated with lots of moving pieces and two other companies involved and I've had nothing to do with it up until now. I knew it was happening on Monday but I was just supposed to be a signiture, now I've got to figure out all the working and find what's holding things up and who was responsible.

At first I handled it okay. Got all docs emailed to me and decided to wait until this morning to get into it. I knew if I did it last night, I'd be up all night worrying about it. I was present and my brain was saying all the right things like...the world isn't coming to an end if this doesn't go through, worrying won't help anything, etc. But I could feel my body start to tense up and I was started panicking that this was going to throw me into a Firbromyalgia flare up. I've just gotten through a really long flare and the thought of going back was too much. So without realizing it I was into a half gallon of ice cream. I did STOP before I could do too much damage, but I still have that subconsious automatic response to stress so I've got to work on that.

Carol, the new place already feels like home. The interesting thing about Chase is that he's fine with his little sister, not so happy with his parents though! LOL In fact when they first brought her home and he saw the remains of her umbilical cord, he thought they should return her and get a different little sister 'cause this one was defective! Since it fell off, he's very happy they kept her. Oh, I know how it is to wait for calls. Hope you get them returned soon so you can get going on that fabulous guest bath.

Vicki, I have problems with anxiety too, especially in business and things I have little control over. And snacks are always a problem 'cause it's easier to grab and bag than open the frig and fix something. What I've found helps (sometimes) is to go ahead and get that craving dealt with, eat the non-healthy snack, but portion it out before I start eating and put the rest of the snack away, telling myself it I'm still hungry after, I can either get another small portion or switch to something healthier. Hey, it's great to meet you!

Janice, love the recipe. I wonder if my big boy (DH) would eat it. He has a thing about cauliflower.

Elaine, wanna share the hammock. I'll bring some purple strawberries for us to try! You so right about how much better food tastes when you take the time to focus on eating it.

Carol, how exciting to find out the sex. Frankly, I never have a preference. I think both are just fine. You're so right about a girl melting your son's heart. These men just seem to go ga-ga over their little girls.

Well, ladies, got to head off. The post office delivered a back ordered package (from January no less) to our old address so I've got to go pick up a mail key from the property manager so I can go get. Then I've got to dig into this fiasco that landed in my lap.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!

Morning Glories,

Today is the day that we find out the sex of our grand baby. We are driving into DC area and meet up with our DD and GD (who is 14 and very excited to have a cousin) and our DS,et al. We were beginning to think that our DS would never have the gift of being a father, so we are thrilled.

emoticon Elaine, oh no, the computer gremlins messed with your sound. Good luck. Maybe it is just a setting somewhere. Got to have our computers up and running at the Mansion. I'm enjoying the fruit as I sit here relaxing before the busy day enfolds.

emoticon Janice, thanks for pointing out it is veggie day. Will be ordering something veggie-wise. Immmmm, like that.......VEGGIE-WISE. Bill will love that recipe.

emoticon Vicki, really good to see you. Good for you in keeping that walking streak going. Work those steps! It is great to drop in here for some 'willingness' or 'giggles to lift our days' or 'encouragement.' That's what we are for each other. The more we are 'present,' the more we receive.

Soooooo, what are your guesses as to the sex of the baby? If it's a boy, then our Kiser line will continue for sure. Bill spends a great deal of time in doing genealogy, so that would be a very good thing. I think a girl would steal my son's heart and be a treasure.

Got to get things together. Bill is taking a jar of his pickles.....which were a big hit in our home town.

Make it a good day. See you tonight!

I brought some nice fruit to enjoy on the porch, I see the hammock is vacant so will take a little breather, then off for some exercise!

Today is a busy day again, I have some shopping to do, also the sound went on my computer, so thinking I may need new speakers! Then off to see Mom.

I had a healthy breakfast, at the table, I used a pretty placemat,my good china, and just relaxed and ate my food mindfully, taking care to chew the food, I am learning girls, at one time I would just devour my food, never taking the time to chew properly. I must say I really enjoy foods much more when you take time to savor the tastes!

I'm off to get things done emoticon have an emoticon day everyone!

IT'S NATIONAL EAT YOUR VEGETABLES DAY!!!

Here is a recipe I got from my "HungryGirl" book: Do you like Cauliflower???

Cheesy Mash to the Max!

Serving Size: 1/5 of recipe (about 3/4 cup)
Calories: 154
Fat: 4.5g
Sat Fat: 2g
Sodium: 372mg
Carbs: 21.5g
Fiber: 4.5g
Sugars: 4.5g
Protein: 7.5g

PointsPlus® value 4*
SmartPoints® value 4*

HG Tip! For extra-creamy mashies, blend them in a blender or food processor until smooth.

Potatoes with cheese? That's one of the most perfect pairings in the universe. You know what else goes great together? Delicious food and low calorie counts...

Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 35 minutes

Ingredients:
One 12-oz. russet potato
7 cups cauliflower florets (about 1 medium head of cauliflower)
3 wedges The Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss cheese
1/3 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
2 tbsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown)
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Optional seasoning: black pepper

Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Meanwhile, peel and cube the potato.

Add potato and cauliflower to boiling water. Once returned to a boil, reduce heat to medium. Cook until potato and cauliflower are very tender, 15 - 20 minutes.

Drain water, and transfer potato and cauliflower to a large bowl. Thoroughly mash, and cover to keep warm.

Place cheese wedges in a small microwave-safe bowl, and stir until smooth. Add shredded cheese, butter, garlic powder, and salt. Microwave for 30 seconds, and then stir thoroughly. Microwave for another 30 seconds, or until cheeses have fully melted. Mix until smooth.

Add cheese sauce to the potato-cauliflower mixture, and mix until uniform.

Good morning, teamies. My Monday Musings are late, but I hope better late than never. And thank you Lady Carol, for having my back by reminding me of how key Accountability is on the ME journey. Teamies....hope your week is going emoticon

Did you do your best to meet your goals?
No, I slacked. Fitness is going well, eating ME went well about 50% of the time.

What were your successes? How did you soar?
Keeping my Walking 4 Fun streak going.

In what ways did you stumble?
I have eaten out of boredom and anxiety over client deadlines. Ugh. So much work to be done with my ME goals.

Most of the time, did you practice Mindful Eating (ME) by waiting for hunger?
About 50% of the time and that is MUCH TOO LOW.

Most of the time, did you STOP when satisfied?
With meals, YES! Snacked throughout the week, and on bad choices.

Whether you weigh or measure, were you Up or Down?
Will know tomorrow.....I will consider it a victory if I stayed the same.

How many minutes would you guesstimate that you exercised this week?
362 fitness minutes (i.e.10 consecutive minutes or more -- that's all I count)

Is there one thing that you should focus on this week?
It is ALWAYS more ME -- not eating when I am not hungry inbetween meals

What are your goals for this new week?
ME ... should be my periodic mantra....and get back to my DD commitments!

emoticon I am tackling my carb fog and chasing it away for good. Whew! What was I thinking? Getting myself together today.

emoticon Pat, wonderful that you are getting settled in. That house will be 'home' before you know it. Taking some 'me' breaks is a good thing in the process. It's wonderful seeing you here. Love the dragonfly colors! Yes, I'm excited about getting started on the remodeling. Still waiting for a callback. Chase will come around as Sera gets bigger and can be a playmate. She will always be his little sister who, I bet, worships him.

emoticon Mizz Sue, you are amazing with your 10-mile runs. Getting my walking shoes on and ped back in my pocket and joining you, even just if some of your route.....lol..

emoticon Jane, I LOVE it.......tips to eating ice cream. You are a dear for sharing that one. Won't be trying it today since I've been a very bad girl......but....in my future.

emoticon Janice, love the beach blessings. Perfection.

emoticon Elaine, can't tell you how nice it is to see you posting. Bill and I were very happy with how our pickles tasted. I eat them like a salad......lol. We are already thinking of making more. Bill took all of the ones we made on his trip.

Enough lollagagging on the Front Porch with you gals, got to get going on making up for my lazy days. Great thing about Spark is that it is there to save us when we slip. Right, Roomies? Geez, my 'slips' in the past have lasted months, not a couple of days.

I can't figure out where the week has gone. It's really flown by for me. Nothing much up here except our boxes seem to be multiplying overnight. I'm grateful that I decided to move boxes out of our living areas first and get those settled so they are relatively free of clutter, but having done that has also made it easier to procrastinate and sit down with a good book instead of unpacking.

Jane, so you have a special recipe for pomegrante and lime ice tea? It sounds delish... So happy to be here with you...

Carol, thanks for the warm welcome. I love the new house. It already feels like home which is a big relief. Real Estate here right now is a seller's market so we had to make a decision within hours of seeing it (there were already 2 offers on the place the first day it was listed) and it's such a huge decision, we were going back and forth on whether it was a good decision or not. But now that we're in, we're really happy. BTW, my brain is foggy most of the time. I'm thinking it might be my natural state! emoticon

Chase is having some adjustment problems with the new baby. He's very gentle with her, but tells everyone that she's the last sister and last baby EVER coming into the family. I think what we're seeing is more the terrible threes. He realizes he's an autonomous creature and has a BIG say in everything, so there's a lot of resistance going on. It makes me very happy to be a grandma and not his mom.

Ooooo, love the blue green options for your guest bath. With the white vanity it will really be a stunner.

Jaiz, my sistah, it's so great to see you here. Have you got any recent pics of the twins? I'm dying for update. It's so interesting to hear you say they are easier. I've heard that from a twin mom before. Is it because they play together? Sera is such a good baby and I'm wondering if having an attention brother is encouraging that. He's always close by and giving her a lot of attention so there's always someone in her line of vision. I so know what you mean about having more difficulty being mindful around the kidlets. You're so right, it's different foods than we would normally eat (dinosaur chicken nuggets is not the norm for us)! emoticon And I find myself automatically shoving that quarter sandwich Chase left in my mouth as I'm clearing the table. I think part of it is that I'm so busy keeping an eye on him that I don't think to take a moment to breathe and ground myself in what I'M doing.

Susan, I so get that your 'best' birthday present is spending the day with Amelia. How exciting...her first sentence. When they start talking it really expands your relationship. It's way I have such a tough time leaving. They just change so quickly at this age. Of course Chase is at the age of non-stop talking. I look at Sera and am grateful she isn't speaking yet! Hope you enjoyed the 1/2 cupcake! You so deserve it! BTW, is there such a thing as eating 1/2 of a cupcake? Of course this is coming from the Cake Lady! emoticon

WG, it's so nice to see you. I believe we've met before on an Azure visit! Gosh, you are so right in the fact that comfort food doesn't taste as good anymore. I think that's one of the huge advantages of ME is that you're taking much of the emotion out of the food, so being present makes it far easier to resist. Gonna try and remember that next time the grands are here. Man, I'd love a porch swing. Don't have one, but have a sunroom with a recliner and that's were I love to read. Are you reading anything interesting?

Elaine, no worries about dinner last night. We're not aiming for perfection. John cooks most of the time so we often don't have super nutritious chicken and veggie meals. He loves Mexican so it's a lot of tacos and burritos. What I've found works is approaching his dinners and simply using portion control. I find that it really takes very little of a high calorie, high fat meal to satisfy me. I also make sure we're having a big green salad and some fresh fruit with it. It keeps me from feeling deprived and losing weight. The interesting thing I've noticed is our son has lost 55 pounds since Christmas. He's know eating what we would consider 'no, no' foods (like we had fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp last night) but he's monitoring his calories and exercise to stay on track. So don't beat yourself up. This is all a learning experience. I mean, after all, isn't that the way all of life is? Just one big learning curve? Or as is often said, we make plans and God laughs. Hang in there, special girl. You're doing emoticon .

Sandy, love you and miss you, girl!

Mizz Sue, hope you had a great run!

Okay girls, I'd better get a move on. Still in my pjs and some boxes are calling to me. I want to make some lo cal salad dressing and have no idea where my seasonings are....

Thanks again for all the birthday messages. I enjoyed all of them. emoticon

I felt like I did well at the birthday dinner - one glass of wine, two small slices of pizza, kale salad, and half a medium cupcake. Somehow I am still feeling too full now. emoticon

Hi Everyone, a wet, cloudy day here today, someone please send me some sun lol! emoticon

I did well all day with the mindful eating, till I got to supper, had a pork roast with all the trimmings, gravy included, I went past the comfort zone, I am a work in progress! DH was wanting that meal for a bit, so I made it for him >>I just took a drizzle of gravy though lol!

Jaiz, I am going to put a couple of recipes in for low carb bread, I haven't tried it yet, but if anyone does, let us know how it was.

Carol: Green is my favorite color, love it! It will look so lovely! Blue/Green great choice!

Susan: Enjoy your Birthday with the family! emoticon The kids just seem to grow in leaps and bounds!

Now I have to deal with all the pots and pans, Jaiz I will be out to sit with you also, just to take a little breather!

I'm off! See you all later emoticon

Hi everyone. It is beautiful here.

I love the blues and greens for the bathroom. Restful and welcoming.

Had a good day yesterday. Good food choices and I kept busy so I didn't munch. I got a fair amount done on projects so today is cleaning and laundry.

I've got to get a bit more done sewing so I can take next week and get some things finished. I will have three days off and no grands so it should be doable.

It's hard, I do agree to serve the grands and not nibble. It is often comfortable food and the memory of the taste is fun. I don't really enjoy the food as much as I think I should and usually don't eat it if I think about it, but sometimes it is fun.

I'm thinking I need a few minutes on the porch in a glider swing so I can read a book. Books are great in the summer.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday than watching Amelia today, reading all the sweet birthday messages, and celebrating with everyone tonight. Amelia did a first today. I've mentioned before how much she loves looking at her pictures on my iPad. Her favorite ones have always been the professional pictures taken when she turned six months. She is 14 months now. Today, when she saw one of them:

she said as clear as a bell, "I wanna kiss it," and then she leaned over and kissed the screen. George and I were so surprised. I called our son to tell him. He said he thought he had heard her say a sentence a few days ago, but wasn't quite sure. It was so cute.

She's napping now (so is George emoticon ) so I am going to clean up the house a little in preparation for our little party tonight. We are having gourmet pizza, kale salad, wine, and cupcakes. I'm looking forward to it! emoticon
