I am starting week 2, on day 2 and I have had some cheats as well, but mostly because I ran out of some of the food and was so busy I didn't have time to get more. But I did last night so I'm back on track. I'm so suprised that I haven't had a hard time sticking to the meals. I also got my clean eating book by Tosca in the mail last night and can't wait to crack it open!
That's awesome Rachel that the weight is coming off now!

Hi all,
Day 6 Today.. I did have a few cheats, red wine while out with hubby on Saturday night and a few Starburts my daughter left around.. Overall I feel better and the weight is coming off finally. How is everyone else doing?

I quite honestly have cheated a bit, TINY bit here and there, but all my cheats(except for the few m&m's I had) have been clean eating cheats, so I don't feel too bad. I'm eating better COMSISTENTLY than I have in a long time. More veggies than ever too! I've already noticed a difference in the way I feel, so I feel more confident that this is a change and not a 3 week diet fad. That is my goal after all to be at 90 to 95% of a clean eater. Good luck with this weekend, you can do it!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Chelsea,
Day 3 and going well. A little hard doing the diet working the few nights. I stuck to fruit and had my oatmeal in the morning. Glad to finally see the scale moving. How is it going for you? A little challenging with the family too! Spending the weekend with Tom may prove to be the test for this week.

Thank you THECHELS for helping me start eating clean.
New to Sparks. Hi everyone! Day 2 of the Reviving Oxygen's 21 day plan. Overall the plan seems easy to follow. I have been stuck in a weight loss plateau for a month and a half. Hoping the strict concentration on the diet will help.

Congrats on starting eating clean. Even though a person normally gains back a few of the pounds lost after a detox, it is very possible that you may keep yours off because you will begin losing quickly after beginning eating clean.

THECHELS,

I was doing a 6-day detox! It is from the Food Lover's Diet by Robert Ferguson. A friend of mine bought the program and we were talking about the detox portion of the program. Three of my friends and myself did it together, which made it worthwhile! I lost about 5 pounds doing it, which I know the majority of it was water. But, in my opinion, a loss is a loss! It was a great booster to start the Clean Eating Lifestyle, which I started yesterday! All is going well! WooHoo!

Hey there all. Kudos on those of you who've stuck with it. I bailed out shortly into the 2nd week. I was losing weight but didn't like the blah feeling & lack of energy. It was a great program though for helping me get in the routine of eating correctly throughout the day.

Best wishes to all of you on your weight lose & fitness goals!

I decided to make my own changes for week 3 as well. I lost 3.5lbs the after Week 1 and am still holding there. I didn't follow the plan exactly during week 2. It was a good start to eating healthy again and motivated me enough to stay away from the 'bad' foods.

I'm going to go back to exercising and eating right. Besides week 3 has too many eggs and peppers! Lol!

THECHELS - maybe you could just eat plain shredded wheat instead? It says to substitute a protein shake once in a while if you get tired of oatmeal, but that's not going to give you the carbs you need in the morning. Just make sure the calorie substitution is the same.

On another note, I'm not sure if this thing is working. I weighed in this morning (Day 1 of Week 3) at exactly the same weight I started at 2 weeks ago. I was at a 3.5 lb loss and now it's gone. The only thing I did different was have 1 beer and a turkey burger (no bun, no condiments) yesterday instead of my fish. Now honestly, do you think I gained it all back because of that???
I think I'm retaining some water, which is normal for me, especially if I have alcohol. So I'm either retaining 3.5 lbs of water OR those 3.5 lbs I lost were just water. I'm sticking to the plan today and weighing in tomorrow morning. If the scale says no loss, I'm done.

I will continue to eat clean and eat more veggies, but I'm not going to restrict my calories to the point that I can't workout. I love to lift and lift HEAVY (for me). I would rather maintain my weight and add some muscle (therefore lose fat) and be happy with that.

I plan on eating my carbs (oatmeal) in the morning but make sure I get some protein in there too (egg whites or protein shake).
I'll still have a small amount of carbs at lunch (1/2 cup brown rice/sweet potato/sprouted grain bread) with my 4-6 oz of lean meat and 2 cups of veggies. Then have my protein/veggie dinner with no carbs. My snacks will consist of fruits or veggies. I'd like to keep my calories around 1500-1800.

This is something I know I can maintain.

STAY STRONG!!

Does anyone know which issue this diet plan is in? Right now, I am participating in a 6-day detox and then I want to start into a clean lifestyle. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Yep, it's asparagus pee! I hate it!

CBLING - hang on! You are doing great. I feel your frustration, though! I've been hanging on to my 2.5 lb loss since Monday and I'm really hoping that it turns into 3 by this Monday. This was supposed to be when our metabolisms really kicked into high gear and it's just not happening for me! I'm trying to stay positive, but part of me want to throw in the towel if Monday gets here and and I'm still at a 2.5 lb loss. I haven't cheated at all this week, so really thought I'd be further along than this.

Yeah, I'm okay with the oatmeal every day, but the thought of more asparagus is not very appealing. I think I may just have extra squash/zucchini for lunch a couple of times next week instead.

I just don't want to go through all of this for a couple of pounds...even though that's more of a loss than I've seen in the past 7 months. Honestly, I should be grateful!

Trying to stay optimistic!!

nice job stephanie! and welcome.

if you scroll back through this thread to somewhere near the beginning, there is a post that details the meal plan for each week.

as for your other question... i like to call it "asparagus pee"! happens every time i eat asparagus. i think it's kinda weird. why asparagus?

anyway, if i don't get back here today, have a great weekend everyone! sending everyone a little motivation to stay on plan...

Sorry for the TMI, but since we are talking laxatives, I figured I would ask this as well... Does anybody's urine smell really funny?? I guess between all of the asparagus and supplements it is normal. : )

Hi guys! I am new to this site and it looks like a lot of ineteresing stuff going on. I am nearing the end of week 1, and I am amazed by how good I feel. I though for sure I would be dragging my behind, but I actually feel fine. I am already so sick of oatmeal and zucchini, but what am I going to do? : ) I lost my week 3, I decided to rip out the pages and put them on my fridge and week 3 is nowhere to be found! That is the week I am looking forward to! Would one of you mind giving it to me! It wold be much appreciated!

I am glad to see so many people having good things to say about getting through this! It will be the first time I have ever truly stuck to anything, and I am proud I am 5 days in!!

Thanks ladies!

CHELSEA - welcome!!! there are a lot of good discussions in this thread that answer a lot of questions. jump right on in!

BEAUT - just be strong and you'll get out of your funk. i was feeling down for a few days, too, but my motivation is back! too bad it's my last day today.

SUNLUVIN - i agree, i'll be very happy with a 5 or 6 lb loss total! i was down 0.6 lbs this morning, which means i've lost a total of 4.4 lbs in the last 15 days. pretty good for a body that only likes to let go of 1 lb per week, if that!

like i said, i'm done after today, but i'll definitely check back in to see how everyone is doing! i think this will be a great diet to use whenever i hit a plateau or fall off the eating clean wagon in the future. next time i'll do the full 21 days :)

This is kind of gross, but is anyone else experiencing a laxative type effect from the spinach? I googled 'spinach laxative' and sure enough it's known for such a thing. If you don't mind eating it, it puts OTC stuff to shame!
Not a pleasant side effect of this diet, but something I can live with for the next few days.

Who needs all those pricey colon cleansing diets and pills when ya got spinach!!??

Hang in there BEAUT! I make sure I go to bed at a decent hour or my stomach starts growling and I want to eat!

I really only record the numbers on the scale 2x/week...Mon and Thurs. It does get a little discouraging, but don't give up!

We have a challenge at work right now to see if you can get your 5 fruits/veggies in a day. I'm blowing them out of the water right now. 10/day and that's going to increase to 14/day next week! I had to bring a bigger lunch tote to work to fit everything in it. Next week I'll probably have to bring one of those coolers with wheels! LOL!

I'm shooting for 2 lbs/week. I'm a little behind schedule, but we'll see what the scale says on Monday (I'm only off by .8 lbs). I can handle 6 lbs and highly doubt I'll see 10. I will be shocked and amazed if I do! Oxygen will definitely be hearing from me if that happens!

Day 11 -- HALF WAY THERE!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm still on track, but not feeling great this week. Kind of grumpy, TOM's visiting and no loss yet this week. Weighing myself everyday is a real downer.

I'm going to drag myself downstairs for a workout right now.

I am also eating sweet potatoes and getting in more veggies than usual. During the day, I can steer myself away from any temptations, but if I'm up late a night I have the urge to snack. Have to get to bed earlier.

Have a Great day!

Very true Becs, I like fish and don't know why I don't eat it more often, I think I eat it more often than a lot of people, but could stand to eat it more often, I have been having it every day and plan to have it at least five days out of the week, after these 3 weeks.

I have also noticed the increased # of fruits/veggies, its great, I've gone from 2 or 3 to 6-7.

Luckily I don't add salt to anything except maybe eggs or French fries which I shouldn't be having these 3 weeks anyways.....right? emoticon

I have lost 2 lbs. since weigh-in on Monday morning...now to just keep that or increase it!!

up 0.2 lb at weigh-in today, but i'm totally fine with that! i'm guessing i'll shed another pound before the weekend, since the scale has been going down since i got back on track monday.

day 1 of week 3 went really well yesterday! so far i'm not noticing the lack of carbs.

there are a lot of great things this diet has taught me: (1) i need more fish in my diet! after this i'd like to have it 3x a week; (2) it really is easy to sneak in a ton of veggies - i've been getting 8+ servings a day with this diet, and i want to keep that going; and (3) i think i've been weened off my salt addiction to some extent. the natural peanut butter i have has added salt, i had it for the first time in weeks yesterday, and all i could taste was the salt! it was kinda gross! this is a huge breakthrough for me :)

CBLING - I wasn't sure if I should do sweet or white potatoes. I LOVE sweet potatoes. I've been using the white since it just said baked potato. I may see what the nutritional difference is between them.

I'm loving the tomatoes! I've been having 1 cup celery and 5 cherry tomatoes as my meal 2.

I do like roasted red peppers, so maybe I'll roast some tonight and see how that goes. I've never done that before...just had them on sandwiches at restaurants. I'll let you know if it's a disaster or a success! I can definitely say I've learned various ways of preparing vegetables on this diet!

RUNBECSRUN - I'm also concerned about the lack of carbs during week 3. I did the adkins diet years ago and found out that lack of carbs makes me a very grumpy person! I may sneak in 1/2 cup of oatmeal once and a while so that my family doesn't kick me out of the house! I'm just going to play it by ear and really listen to my body. I have issues with low blood sugar (headaches and dizziness) so I have to be careful.

I'm kind of excited for week 3, though! We get an extra TBSP of peanut butter, eggs, tuna and salad dressing!!

Hello everyone

Runbecs: I love peppers too. Cheating is hard to avoid but sounds like your bck on track.

Sunluv: I'm also on day 2 of week 2. I really enjoyed the small changes today. The potato and tomatos are awesome. Are you using sweet potatos? Tosca says their the best.

I too and guilty of falling off the tracks yesterday and today no change. I'm curious to see what my scale says tomorrow.

congrats on the loss, sunluvin! glad the plan is working for you :)

today is day 1 of week 3 (again, i'm doing a shortened plan of only 16 days total since i'm flying out to cape cod on friday for a wedding). there are definitely a ton of peppers!!! fortunately i really like them. i put some in with my eggs this morning, and ate the rest raw on the side.

i just finished inputting all the food i'm supposed to eat today into my tracker, and it's coming up with under 1,100 calories. I don't get it - the plan says it has 1,360 per day in week three. the only difference in my tracker is that i'm skipping the salad greens with dinner, but that obviously wouldn't make a 200-calorie difference. i wonder what gives? i'm also a little scared at how low the carbs are in week three! but i only have to endure for three days...

as for weight loss, today i'm actually still up 1 lb from last week, so i've lost 3 lbs total. i know that number would be better if i hadn't cheated so badly over the weekend! but that's okay. i realize now that super restrictive diets really mess with my head and make me crazy for junk, which i know is probably normal! but i haven't cheated that bad since i started this journey in april. so, i'm looking forward to going back to regular old clean eating next week with a few scheduled cheats thrown into the mix. it will be much healthier for me emotionally! i've been losing just over a pound a week on average anyway, and that's plenty for me :)

hope everyone is doing well today!

Hello Team!

Ok, so I'm on Day 2 of Week 2. Feeling better about my progress today...down 2.5 lbs! Finally! I hit this weight last year for a brief second and then never saw it again. I'm holding onto it tight this time!

Still sticking with the plan. I can't handle the bell peppers so I'll be eating tons of celery this week. I'm even contemplating putting chopped celery in my eggs next week instead of the peppers. Just the thought of 2 cups of peppers in my eggs makes me want to yak!

I did really well today, then tonight I had some apple crisp, 2tbsp of ice cream and coffee.. emoticon

That's exactly how I steamed it...in the basket in a pot. I mixed mine with my potato so it wasn't just straight spinach. I also add Olivio spray to add a little flavor. I have to add flavor somewhere!

Hang in there RUNBECSRUN. Just try to get back on track this week and do your best!

sunluvin - do you have a metal steamer basket that fits into a regular sauce pot? that's how i would try steaming my spinach, though not sure if it would work. i can't stand cooked spinach, so i'm not even going to try it! i just eat a few big handfuls raw (clearly i'm not quite as anal about following the plan to a T!).

i had a HORRIBLE off-plan weekend, and the scale definitely showed it this morning. *sigh* i have a binging problem that rears it's ugly head once in a while, and it really hit me hard yesterday. i think maybe the strictness and monotony of this diet may have made it worse than usual. i need to go find a bingers group on SP to get advise on how to handle the binging urges when they hit... anyway, i'm going to keep it up this week, and then move back to regular clean eating next week.

congrats to everyone who's seeing results! keep up the good work!!!

emoticon Everyone!!

I am down 2.4 lbs. after week 1 and I have to say, I wasn't really sticking with it but I'm happy to see results and motivation so am making an extra effort to do better on Week 2. Its supposed to be a hot, more humid week here so I'm making myself a goal to swim lengths every day, it seems I've hardly used my pool this summer. I love to walk outdoors so am pledging to do that every day befor the swim. I have been substituting different veggies and fruits on the diet as well, just depends what's on sale and available. There are so many to choose from in the stores right now. No excuses!!

Spinach....yes it does lose a lot, I like to saute it in a bit of olive oil (until just wilted) and or chicken broth with basil & oregano & garlic (my 3 favourite spices that go on just about everything). When not on this diet I might also saute some white kidney beans or chick peas and pinenuts along with the above.

Also....when not on this diet, I add a few handfuls of spinach to my almost boiled pasta.

On another team I saw someone had added spinach to their omlette (might try that on week 3).

I've been slacking on the weight training for the last few weeks, will try to increase that too.

Let's Do It!!

About the spinach...

Ok, I know I'm a little anal when it comes to this diet, but I was checking the nutritional difference in cooked vs raw spinach.

It takes 12 cups of raw spinach to equal 2 cups of cooked spinach. YIKES!

Now I know why they want you to steam it. So is steaming basically the same as cooking you just use water not oil or something to cook it in?

I'm cooking challenged, so if any of you have any input it would be greatly appreciated!

I steamed 4 big handfulls of spinach last night and when it was done and in the container it looked like nothing. Now I know why. I didn't steam it until it lost all shape and form, just long enough to wilt it a little and make it a nice deep green color.

Help?

I'm still at a 1 lb loss for week one. I'm praying this second week helps kick the weight loss into high gear!
I did much better this weekend than I anticipated. I had 4 oz of flank steak last night instead of chicken/fish. Not sure if that made a difference or not.
We'll see how I do with the bell peppers this week. I'm not a big fan of them (raw), so I'm doing 1 cup celery and 1/2 bell pepper for my Meal 4. I need to get used to them if I'm going to make it through week 3 (3 cups of bell peppers) at least they are cooked or mixed in with other food.
I steamed my spinach last night and am not sure if I did enough. That stuff really condenses once it's steamed. I threw in 4 cups raw, so I thought that would be enough. I may eat 4 cups raw tomorrow and throw my chicken/fish on top of it like a salad.

Keep up the great work!!
Kristin

Sounds like everyone is doing GREAT!

I had a good weekend in Niagara Falls, lots of walking! I did pretty good with my eating too.
Looking forward to weigh in on Monday morning.

I need to get refocused for Week 2 to keep on track and not sway from the diet. It's so easy to have a few of the kids fries or a bite of what everyone else is having.

TDLEITNER - I actually got it at a closeout store, but it's made by Thermos. It's called Intak (pronounced Intake). It's cool because it has a very secure lid that cover the entire top of it and it pops open with the push of a button. It has an opening to drink out of a little smaller than a water bottle...no straw which I like because they are hard to keep clean. The dial is around the bottom part of the lid. It goes from 1-6 and it's a 20 oz container. It was only 5 or 6 bucks. I'd Google 'Intak' and see if it comes up anywhere. The entire top comes off so you can add ice cubes.

OK so I've been at this for 6 days...tomorrow is day 7. I'm down 1 lb (actually 1.2). I'm happy with this because that's more than I've lost in the past 7 months! I also was at a social event last night and had a baked potato after I ate my regular dinner of fish, asparagus and zucchini (no salad). I also had 2 alcoholic drinks...easy on the alcohol and lots of diet tonic water and ice. I was surprised to see the scale show a 1/2 lb. loss this morning! So, we'll see what Monday morning weigh-in brings and bring on Week 2!!
A 1 lb loss is enough to keep me motivated after this long of a plateau!!

We had family over last night, and so we ordered pizza...I used all the willpower I could muster, and wound up having 1/2 a piece, which was enough to puff me up today. I can barely get my rings on and off. Depressing! The salt thing is a real downer for me... Anyway, I did well all week except for that, and I can't tell a bit of difference yet. Hopefully it's true about all the fat-burning starting in the SECOND week! emoticon

RUNBECSRUN - that is a lot of water. I usually start first thing when I get to work and don't stop until I go to bed. It's hard if you don't keep up with it. Do your best...that's all we can ask!
160 would be a lot...I have to drink 130 so I couldn't imagine drinking 30 more ounces. That would be another water bottle and 1/2. I have a 20 oz container that I refill. It's neat because it has a little dial on the top that you turn each time you refill so you can keep track.
The scale is probably off because of the pizza...lots of sodium which will cause you to hold water. Keep drinking!

yeah, crazy how different the varieties of squash are!

is anyone else finding the water intake difficult? i finally worked up to about 160 oz of water a day, but the bathroom breaks are killing me! is it REALLY necessary to drink that much?

you can do it sunluvin!!!! weekends are the hardest, but we only have to stay strong for 3 weekends. the good thing about this plan is that the end is in sight from the very beginning.

i think the scale is punishing me for eating that pizza on wednesday. i'm still up 1 lb from my wed weigh-in. hopefully i'll lose something this week!

This will be my first weekend on the diet and I'm a little worried. I may have a drink or 2 tonight and I'm afraid I'll end up saying 'what the heck' and eat something I shouldn't.
I'm very strict about when I eat during the week because I actually have the reminder on my computer set so I eat exactly every 2 1/2 hours. This weekend I won't have that luxury. Guess I'll just have to set the alarm on my watch and make sure I pack my cooler if I leave the house!
I am bound and determined to make this work!

I always mess with excel for my weight loss! It does help to have an average.

I'm only at 1/2 lb and I'm starting day 5. I'm really hoping there is at least another 1/2 lb gone by the time I weigh in on Monday AM. I know I was retaining some water this morning because I used seasoned salt on my veggies last night and I think I over-did it. My body hates salt and holds onto water like crazy (you should have seen me when I was pregnant!)

So, I'm sucking down the water today and sticking to the plan. I bought some different squashes to try instead of the asparagus/zucchini combo. I'll give them a shot this weekend and see how it goes. I'm just going to roast them in the oven. I got some butternut squash and acorn squash. I'm going to check out the nutritional on them...they may have too many carbs, so I may only eat them on occasion.

Great job everyone! Keep planning and stay strong this weekend!

NOTE:

Ok, probably not going to eat too much of the butternut or acorn squash. All these veggies are new to me and I figured squash was squash. Not so much!!

In a 1 cup serving:
Summer/Zucchini - 18 cals/4 carb/1 protein
Butternut - 82 cals/22 carb/2 protein
Acorn - 115 cals/30 carb/2 protein

We're talking a BIG difference there! So much for that idea! Guess I'll suck it up and stick with the plan!

BEAUT - congrats on your success so far!!! 3 lbs is awesome. i am also obsessed with the scale. but i learned a good tip - i now have a spreadsheet that gives me a 7-day average weight, so i can enter my weight everyday, but only really pay attention to the average. fluctuations don't drive me crazy anymore, and i don't have to hide the scale from myself! (yes, i am an excel/spreadsheet junkie.)

we're moving to tucson, so not quite all the way west! who knows about timing though since we want to sell our house first...

Runbecsrun - Congratulations on the big move, how far west will you be moving?

I stepped on the scale this morning and was happy with the results (down 3lbs) and it motivated me to stay on track. However, I know that the scale can be my worst enemy, so I will not step on it again till an official weigh in on Monday Morning and then move that tracker, that will be the end of week 1. I've had my hubby hide the scale before because it was driving me crazy, sometimes it can be so frustrating.

As far as sticking to the diet, I have made a few changes here or there such as green beans instead of asperagus. Today, I had a chicken salad for lunch because I was out, but sticking to the diet for dinner.

Were camping in Niagara Falls this weekend and I've already packed all my 'clean' groceries and no alcohol. emoticon

Have a good Weekend everyone, keep your goals in mind and think positive!

good job team! sounds like we're on track :)

jaydee - i have the same problem with forgetting to take pills. in fact, i would have forgotten my morning folic acid sup if you hadn't reminded me ;-)

i fell WAY OFF the wagon last night. my hubby and i made a big decision to move back west, and i was so excited that celebrating with a pizza for dinner somehow didn't seem like a bad idea! what was i thinking? why does junk food always have to be part of a celebration???? i guess it didn't help that i had run out of food in the house...

anyway, back on track today! i went grocery shopping after my run this morning, so i'm all stocked up and ready to go :)

Thanks guys, but that was a pic from last year when I hit my goal and it wasn't long before the pounds started creeping back on. I'm pretty close to that now, but like I said, I've been stuck about 3-4 lbs above where I was. I know I can get there because I've done it before, that's why it's bothering me to be stuck in this plateau.

Day 4 and down .8 lbs (love those digital scales!) We'll call it 1/2 lb right now until I see what the scale says tomorrow. We know how they can fluctuate! But I don't think it will fluctuate much on this diet since you don't change anything for a week at a time.

I did stray from the routine last night at dinner. The thought of zucchini and asparagus AGAIN just wasn't happening. So I made spaghetti squash and put a little olive oil and seasoning salt on it and loved it! It was easy eating 2 cups of that! I still had my 3 cups of salad (maybe 4) and a whey protein shake made with water and ice. Much better! I'll back to the routine tonight, though.

I got all my supplements on drugstore.com. I think I spent a total of $50. The most expensive thing was the amino acids...they were $25. My husband found some on eBay that are a better deal, so when I'm done with these I'm getting some of those. The one thing I don't like about mine is that they have caffeine in them, which I didn't realize when I bought them. I don't take them before bed like they suggest in the diet because I'm afraid they will keep me up.

I know we can do this!! Stay Strong!

Hi all
I started this plan on Monday and it's going well so far. I just finished reading all your posts and have lots to say but no time right now. I'll check in tomorrow with my 2 cents. Keep at it everyone!

I'm with you Beaut, I have never been good at taking the vitamin every day and luckily I don't have to take any other medications regularly. But I think it might be a good practice to start taking the folic acid and calcium supplements and vitamins as I am over 40 and not getting any younger. emoticon

I find the oatmeal to be very filling and satisfying in the morning, I feel like I have a bit more energy too. I haven't really been having the snacks. I do have to stock up on bananas, apples and almonds tomorrow.

Its nice to have a trip to look forward to, I am meeting up with friends from Australia in Toronto and then again in Las Vegas in Sept/Oct so am using that as a goal as well.

Way to go Bec with 4 lbs gone already!

Yeah I'm with you Larkspur.....Sunlovin looks Great!

Goodnight team!
