I am disappointed that Sparks is closing. I am paying very close attention to my eating plan and exercise. I do appreciate everything I learned here. The rest is up to me. I will miss the support and friends .

One day at a time.

Now that weíve had time to digest the news of Sparks closing, what are your thoughts?

First is disappointed! Then thankful that weíve had Sparks for as long as we have! Just trying to figure out what I want to do and where to go! Itís also a time to cut down on my use of the internet!

I have an indoor garden of house plants. Two grow fast and are easy to root. I just made up five small planters of them and am taking down to the lobby of the building one at a time.

I do not have a garden. Our small front yard and the tiny adjoining court are all gravel covered, like everyone's yards. I care for two small trees, two rose bushes, a hedge of Bougainvillea, a large assembly of Prickly Pear, two Mexican Honeysuckle, a Barrel Cactus, two Aloe-type plants, four flowering, small bushes, and 9 small plots of flowering plant groups. Beside the driveway there are three flowering shrubs, each different from the other. The yard is quite colorful. The live oak tree is only 15 months in the ground and it has really taken off, growing four feet in height since it was planted. The rear yard / patio is mostly pavers, except for the continuous hedge of Tombstone Roses across the rear fence line and a lemon tree in a rear corner of the yard. We have an assortment of cactus and flowering plants in pots scattered across the patio. Our favorite are the Desert Rose plants - weird looking, but with beautiful, large white or red blooms. They will be ready for photos soon.

Yes, I garden. I do not grow fruit and vegetables because we have voracious deer around here. Mostly I grow weeds among the flowers, grass and trees. I can't get down on my knees either, but I can do a lot of things bending over from a chair.

I am a sucker for Macadamia Nuts and Pistachios when snacking. Costco sells canisters of chocolate/caramel macadamia clusters. They are so very sinful! We have an "ever full" bowl of pistachios on the kitchen island counter. The BIL goes straight for the bowl whenever he is at our home. My third place finish in the nut snacking category is salted cashews.

For baking I like walnuts in Brownies and pecans in banana nut bread. I toast the nuts prior to chopping them up and adding them to the batter.

My favorite nuts are almonds, Brazil nuts, pistachios, cashews. I mostly eat almonds. Brazil nuts are expense. Cashews raise cholesterol which I am trying to decrease and I don't bake.

Spark has lots of good ideas, so when I'm not motivated I can always find a reason to get up and go, reach that goal, avoid a food that has no nutrition or value, find a substitute instead, drink , put one foot in front of the other, get the rest I need. This is a totally motivated site.

I had no plans until at 8:30 this morning a friend called and invited me to go to the cinema. Yes, can you believe it. It was a multiplex, there were about 70 seats in the theater and six persons were in there. Needless to say we were socially distanced and wearing masks.

Brother and Sister-in-law are coming over. Rest of the day will be quiet since I am still recovering from oral surgery.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

One day I won't be able to do this, but today is not that day

I will get up at 4:20 am (already did that)..... DW / Mother to 4, Grandmother to 6 will get up at 1:30 pm (she went to bed at 3:30 am last night). We will enjoy Mother's Day dinner at her sister's house, about 3 miles from our door. I hear Prime Rib will be served. I need to go to the store and take pictures of Mother's Day cards and send the pics to DW. It is the thought that counts............................... yup.

No I don't buy or use energy drinks. I get plenty of sleep, have enough energy for my purposes. When i participated in team sports (field hockey, basketball, gymnastics) we would be given Gatorade at time outs of half time. But I don't think I've had Gatorade since.

You have to realize there are two kinds of energy drinks....for young people and for old people. Monster, Red Bull...they are for youths who are burning the candle at both ends; who need energy drinks to stay awake and go to work without crashing. Then there are energy drinks for old folks, like Boost and Ensure that provide vitamins and nutrients that seniors need,,and they are a different kind of energy drink, but a picker upper just the same.

My "energy" drink is coffee............. I need a cup in the morning to get me going.

Those energy drinks are expensive, no thank you.

Do you use believe in or use or not use energy drinks?

Iíve never used them and I really donít think they are good for you. I guess before I would have one, I would need to investigate whatís in them.

Well, Judy, your comment about not being good at writing explains why you are always posting pictures. As with most things in life, the more you do it the better you get at doing it and the easier it becomes. The one thing I hate to do is sew, and I know if I were to put some love and attention to it I would be more than a mender.

As for the diary, I do not keep one, but my posts here on Over 60;s, 70's and Above are about as close to journaling as I will ever get. In the first year of my of my son's life I kept a journal of the amazing (really quite normal) things he did in his development. At some point he got too active and I too, keeping up with a toddler, and my writing fell off.

I am reading "A Promised Land" right now and am amazed at the detail and thoughts that the author has put into his most chatty readable style. Of course, he had copious notes, tapes, photos etc. to document his White House years, but the insights Obama offers about his though processes at the time, suggests to me that each night as he went into the office to work, he must also have journaled or spoken into an audio recorder. I wish I could be disciplined enough to do that, but then too, what I do is most ordinary, and my abilities are not affecting history or being played out on a world stage.

In regards to journals our thoughts and how and why we arrive at them are always more interesting than the daily things we do. If I were to journal, it would be a journal of the mind.

No; no Diary, no Journal. But I crack jokes about having a Journal and that I am going to have to document something happening with a Journal Entry. Like my wife taking an extra serving of ice cream or me winning a golf match.

I have journaled and had a diary in the past but not now. My grandmother had a diary all of her life and it was interesting to read about her history.

Avoiding all of the traditional candies that would normally hop into my grocery cart around this time of year. You don't have to celebrate the holidays to be tempted by the coconut eggs, jelly beans, chocolate eggs and chocolate bunnies. Heck, I'll celebrate any religious holiday if it includes good food, but this year I am celebrating holidays mentally, not orally.

Staying safe for the most part. We will have DGD and SIL/BIL over for Easter Sunday dinner out on the patio. Temps will be in the upper 80's, but in the shade.
We will have a traditional Easter Basket filled with sweet snacks for after dinner.

Last evening was the start of Passover and today was the beginning of Holy Week. Do you
have any plans or traditions for the week?

I started the day with Palm Sunday service and will observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services and on Sunday weíll celebrate Easter. Our bell choir will be playing for 2 services.

I enjoy great Tucson weather all of the time. It helps with my walks, playing golf three days a week and outdoor work out chores. However, when the weather gets up into the 100's during June, July and August I need to get out earlier than usual.... and wear protective hats and proper clothing.

Not yet, but I'll think about it. Last year all my good intentions got washed down the drain. It'll take some time and thought to come up with achievable goals for this year, given that we're stil not out of the woods.

Only thing I wear everyday is a simple love knot ring bought in Amsterdam in 1971.

I have lots of jewelry, but always believe that less is more.

Mostly poached for breakfast once a week. Hard boiled for quick snacks.
My favorite way to eat an egg is in brownie batter - baked of course.
