I have dropped 4 lbs this last week & a half, could be bloat but I'll take it.

Congrats on the weight loss and the coffee achievement , that is amazing!
Fact about me, I've never been to Starbucks and I've never tasted coffee or any of the fancy anything else... I've only ever had hot chocolate.

Today is a full week (funnily enough day #8) of me making coffee at home & bringing it in versus stopping DAILY at Starbuxx spending all kinds of money & getting a TON more calories than I need. Starbuxx currently has placed a missing person's report on me. But I am hiding in plain sight! LOL! I managed to lose weight last week. I feel a sense of accomplishment. This was definitely a positive change.

Do any of you either procrastinate or wait for the other humans in your house to actually NOTICE something that you see as glaringly obvious? So we have a counter between the sink & the frig & we generally put our recycling there. At some juncture someone grabs it & takes it outside to the bin. So as of this morning, there were 3 16 oz water bottles, a cider bottle, 2 milk jugs (TWO!!!), a cereal box & some other box & it was just too much.

So I gathered it all up & took it outside. I don't need any praise. The empty counter made ME happy. It was just a victory for me in that I didn't have to nag & complain or be passive aggressive & I got like 20 "extra" steps & I made myself happy.

Funny how my brain works.

I just wanted to say I was blown away by your profile pic! I haven't popped in to this group in a long time so I haven't seen any in progress pics you may have posted. Wow! You've been working hard and it shows! You look so young, like a teenager :)

On the main page in that "Community Feed" section, there was a woman there who made a goal to lose 100 pounds in a year. She started in the 320s. And today is 10 months & she has hit 105 pounds LOST. GONE. Bye bye!!! Sayonnara!!! How wonderfully exciting for her!!!

Overall, I don't LOVE the community feed & sometimes I even disagree with things people post there. (Like the person who recommended eating between 750 & 1000 calories per day...UM NO...brain function alone requires more than 1000!!!) Sorry, tangent! So...I'm not the community feed's biggest fan...BUT you really should filter thru there. There is a LOT of motivation & encouragement. Positivity & support...it's what we are here for, right?

OK yeah...about that last post...let's just say getting to the gym on a weekly basis needs to move UP on my priority list!!!

But I have identified some goals for this year & they are remarkably simple & I don't know why it took me so long to discover them. And strictly speaking they aren't GOALS yet bc they don't have the end date attached as of yet.

Goals for 2017...
270...June 30, 2017
250...I guess that makes this one Sept 30, 2017
230...Dec 31, 2017

My first week weigh in, I started at 342 down 3 lbs. I was surprised especially with Xmas, but I did keep within my calories for the entire week. So far, so good.

My first weigh in was last week and I lost 3 lbs. Trying to stick to my goals and continue keeping track of calories and nutrition and doing Trivia questions everyday, Amazing what you can learn. Keep pushing myself to do better each day. Sticking to my plans. So far so good.

I've been working on eating from a smaller plate for supper for about a month now, and overall, it's working. I don't always want to eat from the smaller plate, so when that thought crosses my mind, it means I REALLY have to eat from the small plate for this meal.

It's making it easier to eat smaller portions. So far, it's working.

So today I decided to pick a part of my morning walk and try to jog along it. I picked a long fence that is in the back of the park I walk in. No one else was on the track this morning so I felt safe to look stupid. I jogged along the fence the first time around and felt a bit like I was going to die. The second time was better, but I was still thankful when it was over! I might never become a runner/ jogger and that is okay, but I do want to mix up my walk more so I can get more out of it. I also will try riding the bike next week if the rain lets up.

So anyway I jogged in public and did not die. LOL!

Today is NOT official weigh in day but I've been struggling so I wanted to see where I was & get working on a strategy!!! So I've been losing & gaining the same stupid 2-3-4 pounds. Frustrating!!! Mainly I wanted to break out of the 90s & into the 80s. Sounds reasonable...right? So I got on the scale & I weighed myself 6 times...YES...SIX!!! B/c I didn't believe it. 285.9!!!!!!!!!

I found out today that WATP videos aren't quite as challenging as I remember them. And apparently my morning walks are more intense than the videos, because I sweat a LOT more when I'm doing it myself to the beat of tunes. There are other WATP videos that are a little more intense, and I'll probably have to re-visit those.

So I went to KS last year & I went to KS this year. Last year I flew from Norfolk to Charlotte & I found one of those trolley things & I rode from gate to gate. I didn't really consciously decide this year or maybe I did...but I just started walking. I got a bathroom trip in & I walked from my landing gate to my departure gate. I did not walk fast. I did work up a sweat. And I made it the whole way & didn't die. Change over time knocks my socks off!!!

While this NSV has nothing to do with eating or exercising, it has everything to do with a mindset.

(a little background)
After My Guy passed away, the social group we hung out with kinda slumped, because 3 important members passed away that same year, including My Guy. There were 2 men left with spaces to host gatherings, instead of 5, and I felt like they were "peeing up the same rope" -- aka thinking they're the only gigs in town. One of our group works in the same office as me, and I made the mistake of confiding in her about the rope concept. She blabbed it back to one of the 2 men, and that's when poop flew all over the place, and I got the brunt of it. To this day, that woman is on my "I Hate You" list. (It's not a big list, really.) She even managed to get me in trouble at work. I'm not her fan.

(Victory)
After 3 years of ignoring her, seething when I see her, and just resisting the urge to clock her upside the head, I did something nice for her -- I opened the security door to our office while she had her hands full. I didn't speak to her, and she didn't speak either, but I held the door open for her as a real act of kindness.

I could easily have stayed mean & angry and ignored her situation. Something told me I shouldn't be nasty, and for all it's worth, it's only a door. Make no mistake, I haven't been able to forgive her yet. But at least I wasn't nasty to her today.

Jo

Way to go Mo!! That's awesome!!!

Today, the victory I am celebrating is 5 days clean of binge & purge.
I struggle every day still wanting to, but taking it one moment at a time.
The more I am consistent with workouts and healthy eating, the choices become a tad bit easier..

So grateful to have found this team!

Good stuff Jo!!!! Hope you can walk tomorrow too!

This might sound silly but I'm over the moon excited!!! Tonight the boy & I took the dog for his before bed walk. I walked from my front door all the way to the end of the next block without stopping. I paused. Turned around & walkjed back without stopping!!!! What??? Yes!!! So my stamina or endurance is increasing & I am thrilled!!! Going to keep going. Never going back.

I saw the physiotherapist on Friday and again tomorrow. Do I feel better? Not really, but I also know it's a long process to heal very old injuries. I told him that I wanted to focus more on the hip, glutes and hamstring since they are the cause of my sore knee. He actually listened!! So we did some quad therapy along with a little knee therapy. I really have to find my TENS unit and bring it in, so I can do some of this therapy myself. He seems to think there may be some Arthur in my knee, especially after the hyperflexion from 2013. It might be worth asking the Doc about some X-Rays. My hip & thigh are sore from doing the exercises, and my IT band screams with resistance to the clamshell exercises I'm doing.

And despite all this, today, I did a new Jillian Michaels circuit training video. And I can still walk! emoticon

Hey Jo...2 quick things. I hear exactly what you are saying. But sometimes when one thing is off, it throws your entire body off. That being said...you can have him look you in the eye & say to him...I'm not sure we understand each other. I specifically told you that I was having HIP issues yet you worked primarily on the knees. Can you help me understand why that happened?

I walked the bridge again tonight. It's hot & humid & gross & my sweatie selfie certainly reflects that. Made it to the 6th light pole!!!

I finally went to a physiotherapist yesterday, and I'm still not impressed. I tried defining the problem when I filled out my form, like mentioning that both hips have had issues and they still bother me today, but the therapist focused nearly exclusively on my knee. I go back on Friday, but if he doesn't focus his efforts on the hips, I'm not going back. I've already been to 2 other physios and I get the same thing. Dammit! Listen to what I said!! Just because I don't have a degree in your specialty, don't be condescending and assume I know nothing about my own body.

*vent over*

Jo

INSANE: hitting the 5th light pole. I wanted to do ONE more than I had done. But I kept checking my fitbit & apparently I was VERY lazy today so I wasn't going to hit my step goal. And I told myself that was my goal for the week...hitting my step goal. So I just kept walking to light poles. I've hit my steps, but instead of being at 1.50...I'm at 1.49...so I'm a little annoyed. I might be the crazy woman walking in circles in her kitchen later. emoticon

OK...I missed ZUMBA. So I could have just showered & then went about my business. But NOPE! I decided to conquer the Bridge by my house. I made it to the 2nd light pole. My youngest did the entire bridge both ways. He got 2 & 1/2 miles. That might just be one of my fitness goals!!!

The Bridge from the Bottom

Heading to the 2nd light pole

Made it!!!

I got off my duff & took my anger & my sadness & my resentment & went to ZUMBA. It's been about 3 weeks since I went & they did a LOT of different routines. I don't do them all. And I move SO much slower than the rest of these women. But I LOVE it. I smile. And I laugh at myself. And I sweat...oh golly, do I sweat. And when I leave I have a sense of peace.

Find your peace. You're worth it!

I want to congratulate our very own AMAOLIVIA on her success in losing 100 pounds!!! We all can understand her journey & are excited for her success. Her success shows us that it CAN be done. We don't need surgery. We don't need drastic measures. We don't need to be told it's IMPOSSIBLE. It's not. It's do-able, but it's hard. No lies. No sugar-coating. It's hard & it requires work...planning, changing the way you eat, moving your body.

But oh my gosh...it's so, so worth it!!! Let's give OLIVIA a round of applause & let her motivate us in our own journeys!!! WE are worth it!!!

Mo, I didn't clue in to the problem until the last weekend in May, when stress levels peaked. The fact that she flipped out at her new friend (neighbour up the road) should have been another red flag, but I didn't connect all the dots right away. It wasn't until I asked her about her meds that I finally knew I was right.

Abusers don't always realize how they abuse, especially when it's not physical. Since My Guy died, my short term memory has become like swiss cheese, so I forget a lot of things that were said just moments before. Because I forget a lot of things, sometimes I'm confused because my mind says one thing while that teeny-weenie cobweb in the back of my head puts a nagle of doubt in what I think I remembered. Many easy daily decisions couldn't be recalled, and DIL picked on that a lot. One night, I had to ask 4 times what we had decided to do, and instead of being helpful, she embarrassed me in front of My Wife and GD by pointing out my memory problem. I hardly spoke about plans after that night to everyone at the same time, because it wasn't worth the humiliation of being called out, again, for a problem that I'm trying to solve but is made worse with stress. I thought I was doing better with short term memory, but apparently not as good as I thought. I'm going to look into this, as well as get some psych help from EAP. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever regain all of my short term memory capabilities, but that's a conversation for another day.

So she's moved out, her hot water tank was busted and she had to pay for that herself since it was on a weekend, the water has a high sulfur content that she didn't ask the landlord to check before moving in, the stove wasn't working so she bought a 2nd-hand one, and she's changed the locks on the doors. ***And I didn't help. That's a victory for me.*** She obviously contacted the school or the district to get GD's bus route sorted out, because the school bus stopped going down our road to our house (bus turns around 3 houses up now). Her independance is all I truly wanted to give her, along with the ability to earn her own money again. I managed the independance, but it's up to her to get a job now. Welfare will only go so far.

My next victory is to locate the TENS unit so I can call the physiotherapist, and finally get my butt muscles tended to.

I'm starting to feel better.

Jo

Yesterday morning I did Zumba...last night I did the Survivor lap at the Relay for Life event in Virginia Beach. This morning I got up & did a Survivor lap at Bats4Boobs. These are all small pieces but SO SO huge for me. We can do this ladies. Just put one foot in front of the other.

JO...obviously none of us knew what was going on in your house or we (or I) might have been more encouraging of you getting DIL out. I thought you were helping her out. I'm confused. What right does she have to go to someone'e home who is HELPING her & act like a butt? I'm so, so sorry!!!

My Victory is getting up. I am so NOT a morning person. So on m days off I try to schedule things in the morning so I don't lose an entire day. Yesterday I was at my 10 am eye doc appt on time & today my kid made it to take his SAT by 730.

This old dawg is learning new tricks!!!

So I've debated about posting this all morning, but I will, because I know some of you have been concerned.

Yesterday was a very low point in my life. Since DIL and GD moved in last summer, it has been a slow build-up of what I now see as emotional abuse from DIL.

They moved out yesterday, all because I had asked DIL why she stopped taking her anti-depression pills.

She went off the deep end and really chewed me up and spit me out over text while I was at work. If I had been asked that question, I would have stopped and wondered why I was being asked, and confirmed what was being said. But instead, she flipped out and got very angry with me. Not wanting to deal with this on my own anymore, I sent the text to My Wife. That's when the floodgates really opened. My Wife let DIL have it, telling her what she saw was actually happening at our house every day, and wanting to put a stop to it. In essence, DIL is afraid of this confrontation, and has decided to leave instead of facing it head on. DIL often said that we didn't make her feel welcome in our home, and that she often felt like Cinderella with all the household chores she was expected to do. Wife ripped her apart on those points. I didn't want to go home yesterday, even with Wife at my side. I couldn't look at DIL last night at all, for fear that I would either start name calling or just fall apart right there. While she was in the house packing her stuff, I hid in my bedroom, sitting on the floor, to hide. I've never felt this low in my whole life, not even after My Guy died.

DIL and GD have left the house, and I called EAP yesterday. Finally.

There is still more to deal with DIL, but at least the humiliating comments, the general attitude that she's the only one who's right, the fear of speaking out to only get a backlash - it's not in my house anymore.

It's a start.

I see Katlyn (My family nurse practitioner) again in 3 months, but have to call her next week with my morning numbers to see how they are doing.

Good luck to you Mo in July....18 lbs is 18lbs!!! And by July you may add more to that drop.

Big changes in lifestyle...this will help me. Lots of salad! I love salad so it's ok.

Oh Sandy--that is FANTASTIC news!!! I don't know what my A1C level was last time I went. I was BARELY still in the "pre" diabetic range tho. That was one of the things that really got me motivated to change. I am SO SO excited for you!!! This is motivational to not only ME but I'm sure to the other Girlies as well. 3 points is a HUGE drop!!! Congrats!!!

When do you see her again? Is she the diabetic counselor or dietician or is she your Doc or nurse practitioner? I go back to the Doc at the end of July. Gotta stay on my downward track. Since Jan I have lost 18 pounds...so that can't hurt!!!

Sandy, that is awesome news. My husband is also diabetic and with regular exercise and eating better his blood sugar is now within high normal range. It can be done, you can do this.

This was my FB post today.

First part of my recovery is absolute truth: Hi my name is Sandy and I am diabetic and have major issues with food and have yo/yo dieted for years, I am now working on changing my lifestyle not dieting...just changing for my life. I want to live to see my children marry, and see my grandchildren and future grandchildren grow. I want to play with them and not be a lump on a log. I want to slide on slides at the water park and go on roller coasters again. AWESOME NEWS: A1C...DROPPED FROM 11.2 TO 8.6. My goal with Katlyn is to be under 7....I am on my way! Yes, it was 11.2 at my last check...yes, that is extremely high (I was in a bad funk for a long time)...I am so impressed that I have dropped it this much. I am having huge problems with morning numbers...even though no food during the night. So, she wants to try having me eat a snack around 9 pm of apple and peanut butter or pb and cracker...see if that helps. If not... I will follow her direction and go have the monitor on for a few days that will see what is going on with me during the night. Please feel free to skip my posts that might be all about me and whats going on...my page my stufff! :) Thank you all for the support and good wishes. I have awesome friends.

~Sandy

And speaking of doing GREAT...I know she won't do this for herself...so I am going to do this for her. Please be excited OLIVIA. I know you're a little more shy than I am.

If you look at her ticker below, you can see that OLIVIA has lost 90 pounds thus far. And if she's anything like me, it could be a few more even before she made it "official". Please stop by her SPARK page & offer her some love...congratulations...a goodie. She deserves this & more!!!

I talked about it in another post...but Sunday morning I made it one full lap around the nature park. I was sweaty & gross & for sure WORN OUT when I was done...but I did it!!! And I have THE absolute best feeling about it. My Fitbit said 1.08 miles. So it's not about the mileage but it is about the mileage...but it's also about being able to do something that I haven't been able to do for a VERY long time!!! Now I just have to get back to the park before next weekend! LOL! emoticon

One pair of pants are so loose, they are falling down when I walk. I look like a clown in them or maybe a pair of those parachute pants from the 1980's. I looked at the tag and I couldn't believe it but they were size 4XL.

Yes Leah...the minute increases in fitness make me happy over the moon.

Saturday me & the boy walked the dog at the local nature park. Saturday I did .42 miles without stopping. Sunday I told myself I would walk 100 steps further. When I got to the end of 100 steps, I was fairly close to the first bench. So I walked to the bench. Sat down for a few minutes & then walked my happy tail back to the car smiling & enjoying the sunshine the whole way!!! = .62 miles on Sunday!!!

Good for you Moniquedva! It feels great doesn't it?

Today I made myself get onto the elliptical again. It was easier this time. I still only lasted 15 minutes at a slow pace, but this is a big thing for me.

So I came to the library today. And I had to park in the parking garage bc they are having this very cool Pixel Fest here & TONS of families are here. SO I pretty much had to walk around a city block to get from the parking garage to the library & I did it!!! Without stopping. THAT is a victory for me. Now for normal folks, this wouldn't be a big deal...but for a girl coming from 332 pounds...this is HUGE!!!
