Just wanted to stop by and say hi for one last time to the Poinsettias. I have so enjoyed this team and I look forward to seeing each of you again on your journey during 2012. I am going to be working on my goals and plans while we are enroute this weekend and I will post a blog sometime next week so you can all read and hold me accountable.

@ Debbie - I have just totaled my points and sent you a spark mail.

@ Janna - Thanks for the link to the magazine. I will check it out when we get back.

Happy New Year to each of you!

Well, we finally came home this morning and arrived a bit before noon. Batman had knocked over his feeding apparatus, so obviously we need to work on the design for that before we go away again, but he had lots of hay to nom so he was okay. Roy decided that once she'd finished all the food in her regular red bowls, she was completely out, even though I'd filled an extra pet dish to the brim. Obviously we need to deal with that problem, too!

It's good to be home! I spent all afternoon and evening getting some work stuff done, and while it's definitely frustrating it's also satisfying to see my progress. So that's good!

I hope everyone signs up for the January BSG Challenge! I've posted the thread just a little while ago! Thanks for being such a great team for my first time out, everyone! emoticon

emoticon Kathy - You are so busy, I can't even imagine living your life!

emoticon Debbie - I was very surprised that he did the research for that book, and that he picked one that had such glowing reviews; I didn't even ask for it!

emoticon Margaret - Thank you for looking at my photos! emoticon

emoticon Barbara - I will definitely give Zumba a try! I hope you have a great weekend and New Year's! The layout will actually be in the Spring 2012 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker, which you can find here: www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/

Peace & Blessings!

Afternoon Poinsettia's! Thought I would just check in and see if there were any more blogs to read or posts to respond to. It looks like I have some reading to do. Please don't forget to get your points totaled as soon as you can. Oh by the way. Weighed in this morning and I have lost another 1.2lbs this last 2 weeks. WOOHOO! I still fall a little short of my December goals but I am a Happy Camper.

Barbara, Ray looked all over the place for a pendant watch for me and couldn't find one. A veteran that he volunteers with a the hospital recomended Sight connections website. They have all kinds of things for the visually impaired. That is where Ray found my watch. They are based in Seattle WA.

Margaret, I will go read your blog as soon as get finished here. I always do my best to keep in touch with my friends whether we are on the same BSG teams or not. So even if we are not on the same team next month I will be in touch.

Kathy, really enjoyed reading your blogs!

I will be back later after I get some done around the house.

Good morning my friends. I can’t believe this is the last day of our final week and the year is nearly over. 2011 just went too fast for me. My hubby told me that he thought the only way to avoid that is for us to sit at home and do nothing. Well, needless to say that is not an option! Anyway tonight we are having dinner with our friends, and we leave tomorrow for the Tacoma Washington area to visit hubby’s son and daughter-in-law.

@ Debbie - Thank you for agreeing to be co-captain this month and for sending out the goodies to the winning team. You are an awesome lady and I true value being a team leader with you and being on your team this month.

@ Debbie - How are you enjoying your watch? It sounds so amazing. I've never seen one like it.

@ Margaret – treats at work is one thing I will not miss when I am retired. I have enjoyed having you on a team this month and it has been fun getting to know you.

@ Janna – I think you would love Zumba, at least I know I do. I think it gets me to work out much longer and harder than I would otherwise. The 60 minutes goes so fast and with this particular class the room is quite full so you have to keep moving in order to not get run over by someone else which is a good thing.

@ Janna – We used to watch the Chipmunks too.

@ Janna - Thank you for sharing your wedding pictures. They were beautiful!

@ Janna – I do quite a lot of scrapbooking. I don’t work very quickly either. I seem to go in spurts and do a lot and then something comes up and I lose focus. If you remember the name of the magazine I would be interested to hear it. I do use the www.pagemaps.com. I too love that site It definitely gives me inspiration at times.

@ Kathy – you sound so busy! I hope you were able to get your naps in.

@ Andrea - I hope you are having a good week. It has been awesome having you on my team for a second month. I hope I see you on my team again really soon and that you have an awesome journey.

I am sad to see this month end as I have thoroughly enjoyed being on a team with each one of you. While it is fun to get to know new friends each month, it is also sad to lose the daily chatting with the ones who have become really good friends through the current month.

I hope everyone has an awesome day and finishes this month's challenge the best way possible. I am definitely going to give it a try.

Good evening Poinsettia's! It is hard to believe that this week is almost at an end! I want all of you to know that I have really enjoyed this month with each of you. I hope to see each of you in next month's Challenge.

Janna, isn't it great when your DH doesn't have to be told or given a list of what you want for Christmas.

Barbara, thank you for being co-captain of the Poinsettia's and doing the GOODIES's for the winning teams.

Margaret, I have enjoyed getting to know you better. Hopefully we will be on another team again soon.

Kathy, and Andrea it has been fun. Hope we get the chance to do this as a team again.

Tomorrow is the last day of the December challenge. Please remember to have your points totaled by 1pm central standard time on Thursday. Happy New Year everyone!

Good afternoon friends! Just have a quick moment to check in. Feeling very happy and content today for no special reason. The weather certainly helps. This is my idea of what Wisconsin winter should be! I am sure we will get slammed later, but the way I look at it, this has been just such a bonus so far, who cares what comes later! Going to get a few things done yet this afternoon. Enjoyed the day off, but now back to work. Got the cleaning job and group home tonight. Residential cleaning in the morning after group home, then mom to doctor. Got the banks and group home tomorrow night. Somewhere I will squeeze in a couple of naps to get the needed rest. Lucky I don't need much of that! Off Saturday and Sunday which is good, so I have that to look forward to. Will check in and catch up on everybody later tonight once I am at work. Have a great day!!

emoticon Debbie - That watch sounds like a lovely gift! I hope you get lots of use out of it!

emoticon Margaret - Treats at work... one of those things that I'm glad I don't have to worry about anymore, thanks to not working outside my home anymore! (Well, most of the time.)

emoticon Barbara - I think I might have to add Zumba to my list of dances to look up on YouTube. You are such a great advertisement for it! emoticon

emoticon Debbie - You had a really busy Friday! I'm sure you enjoyed your vacation, though.

emoticon Kathy - I'm glad your arm is feeling better. I hate it when things like that happen - especially right around the holidays!

emoticon Barbara - I'm glad you liked the Chipmunks movie! I haven't seen either of the new ones, but I love the Chipmunks. We used to watch the cartoons all the time. I loved the movie they made back in the 1980s, with the Chipettes. I think we even saw that in the theatre! I actually went to rent it a few years ago, from a Blockbuster (when they still had brick & mortar stores), and it wasn't there - someone else had rented it! (So weird.)

emoticon Margaret - I am so happy for your daughter! Congratulations to her for her new job! It's always so lovely when that sort of thing happens. emoticon

emoticon Barbara - Do you do a lot of scrapbooking? I am (very slowly) working on one for my honeymoon and I'm going to do one for my wedding once we finally have all of our professional photos. My cousin-in-law (my cousin's wife, heh) does a lot of scrapbooking, and she even had a layout featured in a magazine a few months ago. I wish I could remember the name of the magazine. I asked her for some advice on doing layouts because I was starting a project with the young woman I do community access with, and she gave me a link to www.pagemaps.com - I am in love with that site! If I start doing more scrapbooking, I will definitely be using that site to find base layouts (I love creating a lot of my own stuff, but the inspiration is wonderful).

emoticon Kathy - We Skyped with my brother in Scotland on Christmas Day, too. I don't know if I missed it earlier, but what kind of disability does Heather have? The young woman I do community access with (she is turning 20 next week) has a developmental disability and really severe OCD that isn't really helped by medication at all. There are a number of topics I have to remember not to discuss with her because they trigger her OCD really badly, but I try to be a safe person for her to talk to - someone who isn't a psychiatrist (though she does like her psychiatrist) or her family, who is more of a friend because I don't get the impression that she has very many friends - so sometimes we talk about those things because she brings them up (then I try to redirect when I can). I like her, though, and I would definitely hand out with her once a week even if I weren't being paid. We do whatever she wants when we get together. I pick her up from her home and then she decides what to do. Sometimes we go to the library, sometimes we go shopping, sometimes we just drive around the city and chat for a while. We usually finish out the evening at a coffee shop for a snack, but I have to try to get her home by 9.00 p.m. so she can take her medication. (It may not help a lot, but it does help some, so it's important for her to take it on time.) I am basically a break for her and for her family. A break for her because I'm sure it must be difficult for her sometimes with two younger sisters who are, for lack of a better word, normal, and with an older brother who is getting married soon and an older sister who already is married, and she has said (very matter-of-fact) that she is not going to get married or anything; she is looking forward to moving into a group home, though. And a break for her family because it is stressful to have to be so vigilant all of the time, watching for the behaviours that show that the OCD is acting up and keeping a lid on certain topics of conversation, and to have to deal with some of the things that come up due to her disability, since in some ways she's at an elementary school level and in others she's at an early high school level, but of course physically she's an adult!

emoticon Kathy - I hope you enjoyed your day off!

emoticon Margaret - I am so glad that you had a good Christmas! The grandmother of the young woman I wrote about above attends my church, which is how I found the position in the first place. It is her daughter who is the girl's mother. They are Lutheran, but I am Anglican. They're enough the same that it doesn't really matter! The grandmother is a lovely person, I am not sure how old she really is, but she doesn't FEEL like she is old to me! She actually sewed a white chiffon jacket for me to wear over my wedding dress last year. I gave her the pattern for my bridesmaids' dresses, and she adapted it to make a sort of a really long bolero! (We had a medieval wedding, but my dress was modern and strapless, and I didn't want a veil. So this way I was more covered and had the medieval style sleeves, and the same neckline as my bridesmaids.) Here are some photos to show you what it looked like: www.flickr.com/photos/karalianne/508

Her husband used to be the priest at our church. He passed away several years ago. It's interesting to note that another former priest of our parish is a parishioner there still, I think it was his last parish and so he retired and just kept going there. He is an associate priest now and takes services sometimes when our regular priest is away.

emoticon Andrea - Wow, what a great reason to disappear! I am so glad you got to have such a lovely break from everything, and as a surprise, too! emoticon

emoticon Barbara - You definitely have the right idea; I wish I was as motivated as you sound!

emoticon Debbie - It sounds like you had a great trip! I love the "annual ritual" of lunch at Dairy Queen! emoticon

emoticon Barbara - Maybe you can find another class to go to on a different day this week, instead of Wednesday. Or maybe go earlier in the day or something! You'll figure something out, I'm sure! emoticon

Peace & Blessings!

Good morning everyone! I apologize for my absence the last few days, but it was Christmas...!

J and I left late for my parents' on Saturday and had to go back for my medication 20 minutes into the trip. *sigh* We did eventually get there, and then we decided to go to the 9.30 p.m. service at the church next door instead of going to all of the services Dad had to lead that day (he has a three-point parish and started at 5.30 p.m.). Church was lovely.

Sunday morning we got up and had breakfast and opened our stockings. Then we went to church. We came home and got the turkey in the oven and Dad and J went out to get lunch from A&W but it was closed so they wound up at Burger King instead. That was okay, though BK onion rings aren't as good as A&W.

After lunch, we opened presents.

J gave me a nice zipped pencil case with a line drawing of a feather on it and a book of fair isle knitting that I've heard great things about. Kudos to him for doing his research and finding the book!

Mom and Dad gave us a nice National Geographic telescope. No individual presents, which is perfectly okay. That is a really nice telescope!

My brother gave me a rain stick! I have been wanting one for years. Of course, I don't have anywhere to play it right now, but still... a real rain stick, from South America (I think Peru).

We're going to do the rest of our presents when my youngest brother is here next week. He and his wife are living in Edinburgh (Scotland) so he can do his PhD, but they're going to be in Canada next week for a wedding and are coming to Saskatchewan to visit us.

Then there was chatting and stuff while Dad went to do a home communion for a woman who is dying of cancer and Mom had a nap. And then once Dad got home, we had dinner! It was very nom.

I made the cranberry-orange relish. I'm going to put the instructions on my blog in a moment.

The turkey was amazing. When I basted it, the drippings were practically thick enough to be gravy all by themselves! And of course the stuffing is my favourite part of turkey dinner, and that was lovely as well.

The potatoes cooked for so long that they turned into mush all on their own, no mashing required. I thought that was pretty funny. The carrots were good, but a bit watery, which I thought was kind of weird.

So then the men cleaned up and Mom and I hung out in her room. The guys wanted to play Carcassonne and were up until 3.00 a.m. playing that and Settlers of Canaan. I went to bed at 1.00 a.m.

Yesterday was a nice lazy day. In the evening we went to see TinTin. J and I paid for Mom & Dad's tickets, and my brother paid for their snacks. It was like a combined extra Christmas present. The movie was very fun. I never really liked the comics, but I did like this movie. And the 3D worked for me, which was nice - Digital 3D is so great! Only this and the method they used for Captain America ever work for me; regular 3D (like they used for Alice and for Avatar and stuff) just looks flat to me. I think it's because my astigmatism is so bad.

This is another loooong update, so I will make another post with replies to you all. emoticon

Peace & Blessings!

Good morning Poinsettia friends. It was a real shocker to have to get up early this morning, but at least I only work 2 days this week. We leave on Thursday to go to hubby's son and daughter-in-laws in Washington. It's about a 6 hour drive each way and we'll be driving home on Sunday so it is short, but that's about all the time we have and we're lucky if they will give us that much time as they have horses and all and there is always something that needs to be done. Plus his son will be going back to Afghanistan on January 16th until May.

@ Debbie - I am so glad that you had a good mini vacation.

@ Kathy - I too am glad you are back for our final week.

@ Andrea & Janna - I hope you had a good evening and will be chatting with us today.

I did make it to Zumba last night and it is so much fun. I love that class. I am sad that I won't be able to go on Wed. because hubby made dinner plans with some friends. Oh, well, I guess I do need to be flexible.

Hello Poinsettia's! I got home in time to get in a post before Tuesday morning. lol We had a fabulous mini vacation. We decided to drive to Dallas. We started out at 7:30am made it to my brothers in Gene Aurtry OK by 9am. Left there stopped Valley View TX for lunch at the Dairy Queen. This is a annual ritual for Ray. We made it to Grapevine TX by 2:45pm. We had a good time visiting with all my family.

Happy Monday all of my Poinsettia friends. I am ready to kick butt and get back on track to finish this year on a good note! it was so nice to have the day off and get some good sleep, but I have high hopes and plans on getting to the gym tonight for zumba and I started my day off with a nice healthy breakfast.

@ Kathy - I hope you have a nice day off and are able to relax and enjoy it! Heather sounds like a lot of the clients that are in the group homes that my son and daughter-in-law work at. I think it takes special people to work at those homes and you definitely sound like you are one of them. What a blessing!

@ Margaret - so happy you were able to visit with both sides of your family and that everyone was doing so well! Your Mom sounds like she must have the key to a long and healthy life which is awesome!

@ Debbie - I hope that you and Ray are having a wonderful trip and all is going well for you both. Did you decide to take the train or drive?

@ Andrea - you were very much missed while you were gone, but I am thankful that it as for such an awesome reason! Your Mom sounds awesome! I hope that you got the much needed rest and relaxation and will be ready to start up your school again when it resumes. It is emoticon to have you back!

@ Janna - I hope you had a great Christmas!

Hi everyone!

I am really sorry for being gone this past week! We took an impromptu vacation to Florida for the holidays! My mom sprung it on us and had even cleared it with my boss. The one rule was no cell phones and no internet. I have to admit that it was a MUCH needed vacation!

But, I am back and ready to finish this year out strong! I truly hope each of you had a blessed Christmas!

Lots of hugs! xoxo -Andrea

Hi Poinsettias!
We had a lovely Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. We have been so blessed this year. We were able to visit with both sides of the family. My mom who will be 90 in 2012, is well and looks 20 years younger than she is! My sister-in-law and family in Tennessee could not make it to Michigan, but we were able to pass the phone around and talk with them. Everyone is healthy and happy (not counting a cold or two!).

Challenges in 2011 have been overcome with prayer and faith. And as always, He has taken care of us.

@Barbara....so glad to hear that your Christmas was a happy one!

@Kathy....how wonderful that you are able to bring Heather with you to your home! My sister-in-law also works in a group home (same one for years), and takes her "kids" everywhere. She knows their challenges, and always figures out a way to make it work. She has a gift, and from what you've said, it looks like you do too!

@ Debbie....hope you are enjoying your trip!!!

@ Janna & Andrea...hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

@Barbara Yes, it was a great Christmas. Hope yours was wonderful as well. I used to work with Heather at a different group home. I take her all over. Had to get special permission from her wonderful mother, but now I don't have to ask to take her, I can just do it. She loves coming to my house. Has her own toys, etc there. And rules. She needs rules, and is smart enough to understand that there are consequences to breaking them. The computer room is off limits. She has yet to go in there, but always has to lean in the door to look. I have been taking her around for quite a few years now. Just love her. She can be a handful, but so much fun.

Good evening my friends. Kathy, it was awesome to hear what a great Christmas you had! Holiday pay is a definite plus and it is nice that you can take the residents with you to church. Where my son and daughter-in-law work is the same way. It is nice for the residents.

Merry Christmas to all!! What a wonderful couple of days I have had! My arm is pretty much back to normal, so I can work out again. Had a great time with family this Christmas. Skyped with nephew in California. Phone with sister and my son. Video chatted with son Dave and fiance Katie before I had to work tonight. Don't mind working, because I get $4/hour holiday bonus pay. Took Heather along to church with me this morning. They are always happy to get rid of her at her group home. Pastor brought communion to the back of the church for me, so that was nice. Took her to my mom's for a visit after. Weather has been cooperating. I just can't seem to find anything to complain about!!

Margaret-I don't tell which chipmunk I remind people of either. And of course it has nothing to do with behavior issues. LOL

Merry Christmas my Poinsettia Buddies. i hope that you all had one as merry and happy as ours was! My hubby got me this little book that explains football written by a mom. I have never been into football, but now that my grandson plays I really need to learn a little about it so I am hoping it will be on my level!

@ Margaret - How was your Christmas? Did you stay on track yet another day?

I think hubby and I might go for a walk here in a few since it isn't too chilly and it's not raining right now. We'll see if that holds out for us.

Have a relaxing rest of your day!

Merry Christmas Eve to all of my Poinsettia Buddies. It's been a quiet day here for hubby and I. We slept in quite late. Then I finished putting together a scrapbook layout for my daughter in law and made a stocking stuffer for hubby. Hubby washed my car then we walked down to Subway for lunch so I got in an hour of exercise. Now it is time to get ready for Christmas eve church service.

@ Kathy - I hope your arm is feeling much better today.

@ Margaret - Yes Alvin & the Chipmunks were a huge part of my life previously too and I think I too will always love them. Congratulations to your daughter on the new job she was offered. I truly hope all works out well for her and she will enjoy the new phase of her life in North Carolina. Merry Christmas!

Well, I'm off to get ready for Church, but I want to wish each of my Poinsettia Buddies a very Merry and Blessed Christmas!

Hi Poinsettias!

@Kathy....so sorry to hear that you hurt your arm! I hope you heal very quickly...sending good thoughts your way.

@Barbara....Alvin & the Chipmunks were a HUGE part of my childhood! I will always love them. :) Funny thing...I'm one of 3 girls in my family. I always thought that our personalities matched those chipmunks. I don't think I'll admit which one matched me! Hahahahaha!

We are off today, for our holiday visit with my side of the family. We had good news and answered prayers yesterday....my daughter was offered a very good job, after a long search since she finished college in 2009. She and her new husband will be leaving for North Carolina in early January, so we are going to enjoy every minute with them this Christmas. Our family is so blessed....wishing the same for all of my dear friends here on Spark.

Merry Christmas!

Good evening my friends. I am so happy to see Kathy back and I am truly sorry about the reason you were missing last week! I am like you in that I love Christmas, but I am also happy when it is over too. I just cannot believe that it is only 2 days away now.

@ Debbie - have safe travels.

We had heard that the Alvin movie was not very good, but my grandson and I both loved it and really enjoyed it. Of course, I am like debbie in that I love the chipmunks so I would definitely recommend you see it if you get the chance.

Well, it is bedtime so I will get off for now and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

emoticon Hello Poinsettia Friends! At least I hope you still want me for a friend after letting you down this last week. I fell and trashed my arm last Sunday night. Didn't break, but just badly bruised. Bad enough for crazy work restrictions that kept me out of work all week. Barely used the computer except to log in for a couple of minutes now and then. It is better now, so I will be back.

Debbie it sounds like you are so busy! Sounds like fun too. I love the whole Christmas season with all the activity and excitement, but am always glad to have it behind me. Have a wonderful trip.

Barbara I love the Chipmunks. Took Heather to McDonalds the other day and she got a Chipmunk happy meal. It had a chipmunk in it that made noise. Simon I believe. She thought it was cute until I pressed the button to make noise. After that, she wouldn't even look at it.

Janna I look forward to reading you blog.

Margaret great job on keeping the evil treats at bay. I've been having a tough time with not being able to do much.

Took Heather to see Santa the other day. Got some great pictures. Made a Christmas card with them for her mom and my son. Her mom loved it. It was a good time, but I really miss having my son to help with pictures and such.

Good evening Poinsettia's! I have been on the run all day. First we had to wait for the HHC nurse to come change Ray's bandage. A friend came by and needed some help so Ray took care of that. Then we took some laundry to the laundry mat. I ended up paying for bundle service because we were running so far behind schedule. Fortunately it wasn't to much less than $20. We went to a friends for an early dinner exchanged gifts and visited. Then off to my sil's for another Christmas get together. We got home around 10pm. Honestly I am bushed.I still have to pack for the trip. We leave early tomorrow morning.

Margaret, good job on keeping away from the treats. I don't think I would be that strong. I did okay today with all the bad choices around me. It wasn't easy.

Barbara, let me know how you like the movie. I am a Alvin and Chipmunk fan from way back. Since I was a kid. I would like to go see this one if it is worth it.

Janna, good job getting your blog done so early. I have already read it thought it was great!

Kathy and Andrea. I imagine you both are busy with Christmas and other things right now. Just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you both. We miss you.

Good Morning my friends. It was so nice to be able to sleep in this morning. I have today off and my 14 year old grandson and I are going to see the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie at noon (the one he wanted to see isn't there any longer), and then hubby will take us both out to lunch. I am hoping I can make it to Zumba at 5:30, but we shall see how that works out.

@ Margaret - way to go on avoiding the treats. I wasn't as strong and focused as you when my co-worker brought her huge plate in, but I am ready to get back on track! Way to go on achieving your goals for this week!

@Debbie - I hope you are enjoying your travels!

I love zumba and even though I can't move the way a lot of those ladies can, I am sweating a lot so I know it is good cardio and my tummy muscles can definitely feel it too so I must be doing better than I think.

@Janna - way to go on getting your blog done early. It was an awesome blog and you have achieved so much in 2011!

@Kathy & Andrea - I hope to see you both back chatting this week. I have missed you and am wondering how you both are!

I pray all of my Poinsettia Buddies have an awesome day!

Good Morning, Poinsettias!

I resisted a beautiful plate of Christmas treats that one of our library patrons brought in yesterday...they looked fabulous! I brought home 2 for my husband....a chocolate/peanut-butter "buckeye" and some peanut-brittle. But I told him to hide it, so it wouldn't tempt me!

I'm 4 days into my Christmas week challenge...still on track! YAY!

@Debbie....I am so happy for the good news on Ray! And that you will be able to make your trip! Have safe and happy travels!

@Barbara...one of my co-workers does Zumba, and she says the same thing that you did...it really gives her a full workout. She loves it!

@Janna....I'm off to read your blog!

@Kathy & Andrea & all Poinsettias....have a fantastic Friday!

Hello dear Poinsettia's! Ray has been cleared to go to Dallas for Christmas. They did change the type of stuff they are packing the wound with. The other present arrived today in the mail. Ray didn't bother to wrap it. He just handed me the box and let me open it. It is a pendulum watch. I used to have one years ago till it broke. I can't wear wrist watches. Ray ordered this from a company who makes watches for the sight impaired. I read the face or push a button an it will tell me the time.

Janna, you are really on the ball getting your 4th week blog already done. I have read it and thought it was great.

Barbara, thank you for the good wishes on Ray's foot. It is healing just his diabetes is making it a slower process.

Margaret, hope you are having a great day.

I am looking forward to this next week with everyone! Merry Christmas to all!

Today has been pretty quiet. I've baked a mince pie and now J has e-mailed saying that there's a potluck tomorrow at work and can I whip something up, maybe some Christmas baking in conjunction with my other Christmas baking. I'm going to make either shortbread or sugar cookies, I think. I also have an emergency edit for work, so I need to get cracking!

First off, I hope everyone remembers to go in and total their points for week 3 if you havent already.

Good morning my friends. I went to zumba last night and she really kicked our butts. I was dripping sweat and really running out of energy, but I made it. I am hoping to go again tomorrow, but it really depends on the timing with my grandson and all that since i have Friday off.

@ Debbie - I will take care of the totals and goodies this week if you can do next week. That will work out great. I pray that all goes well with Ray's appointment and that you are able to take your trip. I also hope your gift arrives today. I really hate it when things like that happen, but I guess the world isn't perfect so we have to adjust to them.

@ Janna - Awesome on getting everything ready for Christmas. I still have a few things to wrap. I'd better make sure they aren't for my grandson - well, I guess I really better just get them wrapped tonight.

@ Andrea, Kathy and Margaret - praying that all is going well for you!

Well here I am sneaking in at the last minute just before the deadline. I thought I was going to have a some what peaceful week being right before Christmas. Oh well didn't happen. Ray goes back in to see the doctor tomorrow for his foot. Chances are our plan for a trip any where may get canceled. Today when they were changing his dressing they found a pocket infection. they got it drained but this is a set back we were not expecting. He is scheduled for a ultra sound tomorrow on his foot. They can't do an MRI due to his pacemaker.

Barbara, that would help me a good deal if you could get the GOODIES this week. We are still hoping to go out of town. If we don't it probably means time spent at the hospital. I can take care of things the last week of December.

Jann, sounds like you have everything ready for Christmas. Ray is a little upset. One of my Christmas gifts was supposed to be delivered las Friday. It was delivered to the wrong address an then shipped back to whom he ordered it from. It is supposed to be here tomorrow supposedly they reshipped priority mail.

Margaret, Kathy and Andrea, hoping that you all have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas my dear Poinsettia's!

I finished wrapping all the presents this morning - hooray! Now I need some different sized boxes for mailing everything. *sigh* Tomorrow my big thing is baking mince pie to take to my parents' - it's my dad's favourite.

emoticon Margaret - That's what I've heard about belly-dancing. I think it looks like so much fun!

emoticon Debbie - I ordered J a leather wallet from Saddleback Leather that he's been wanting, and I got him both seasons of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" since the wallet won't be here before Christmas. I was also hoping to knit him a new tea cosy, but I don't think I have time to do that what with everything else I need to do between now and Saturday. We'll see.

emoticon Barbara - No, my cyst isn't bothering me at all. The only reason we know it's there is that my GP felt a fibroid during my physical in January and sent me for an ultrasound. Given its size, I wonder just how long it's been there and how many of my various problems (with TOM, with digestion, with weight) it's caused. I mean, 10cm? How fast do these things grow usually, anyway??

(As a complete aside, it really ticks me off that I can't do any formatting here whatsoever. I can't italicize things, I can't bold things, nothing. I KNOW HTML BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE I'M NOT ALLOWED TO USE IT. You'd think they'd at least let us do rich text formatting - where you click a button to make text italics or bold - but no, nothing. I don't think that helps make things more readable or easy to understand.)

Peace & Blessings!

Good morning my friends. I hope you all remember to send me your totals by the deadline tomorrow.

I know it is hard to believe that we're at the end of the third week already and only a few more days to Christmas and a few more to the new year. I cannot believe how very fast 2011 flew by.

@ Janna - So happy you are done with your shopping. I hope you got most of the wrapping done too. I hate that even more than shopping so I always put it off to the last minute. You might be surprised how fast your packages get to the recipients. One year I just knew it wouldn't get to my daughter's on time and it was there like the next day. Other times it takes nearly a week.

@ Janna - have a safe trip and a Merry Christmas with your family.

@ Janna - a grapefruit size cyst is fairly large. You might be surprised about the poundage because water weight is still weight although I didn't lose anything when I had my surgery and cyst removed. I surely did feel better though. Is yours not causing any pain or symptoms?

@ Kathy - I have missed you chatting the last few days. I hope all is going well with you and you are just super busy, but know that i am thinking of you and wishing you the merriest Christmas.

@ Andrea - I have missed you chatting the last few days also and I hope that all is going well with you too. Have you been having anymore medical issues? I hope when you get your follow up checkup that they discover the problem that caused the miscarriage and all will be A-okay in that department. I am praying you aren't having the blues although I know all about loss, especially of a child. I had my melt down a couple of weeks ago and it's been 19 years since my son died at the age of 15 and my niece lost an infant about 5 weeks old and my d-i-l had a premature baby that lived only 16 hours. Just know that loss is loss and you will heal in your own time and that no one change change that time. emoticon

@ Debbie - I can do the points and I am assuming you didn't get my SparkMail where I said I could help with the goodies to this week team winners? I can do that if you want since you will be gone. If you can do it next week that would be awesome.

@ Debbie - Have an awesome trip and a happy holiday!

Good evening Poinsettia's here is the link to my blog for this week. Hope you like it. Just 5 more days till Christmas! I am ready for it. I think I am going through a 2nd childhood hmmm. Okay maybe 3rd childhood. lol

Janna, I don't deal well with large groups of people especially if I don't know them. I get nervoous and don't talk much. I am having to work on it. What is Santa bringing J for Christmas?

Margaret, I don't make cakes neither does Ray. I did get a special request from my brother. Whe we will see on Christmas Eve day. I have stop by drop off some Blue and Gold Sausage for him and visit with him a little while. He asked me to bring him some brownies for Christmas. My brother is one the healthiest 68 year olds I know. So I am not turning down the request.

Barbara, are you going to be able to do the points this week or would you like me to do them.

Kathy, and Andrea, hope you both are having a good day.

WooHOO! Day 2 of my Christmas Week Challenge and I'm still on track! YaY!
emoticon

@ Barbara...I haven't seen Jack and Jill, but have seen the previews! I think it's the one with Adam Sandler...he plays twins (a girl and a boy!) It looks like it'll be pretty funny!

@Janna...sounds like you did great at the Christmas party! Good for you! I have a cousin who treated herself to belly-dancing lessons and loved it! She said that it's really good exercise. Thanks for the cupcake tip! That would solve the whole problem, because DH could have one and we could freeze the rest. :)

Sweet dreams, Poinsettia buddies!

J and I finally got our Christmas shopping done. (He probably still needs to look after something for me, but everything else is done.) I started wrapping this morning. Parcels will hopefully go out Thursday at the latest, which of course means people won't have things in time for Christmas, but maybe we'll do better next year. emoticon

We're going up to my parents' for Christmas, leaving on Saturday. They're only about an hour and half away now, so it's not a long trip. The oldest of my brothers will be there.

This past Saturday was J's work Christmas party. I don't like functions like that so much because I'm not totally sure what to do with myself. I'm good at being a hostess or a helper at a function, but I don't have any real experience just being a guest. But I looked good (I will find the camera cable and share photos eventually), and I tried really hard to socialize with people I didn't know. There was a great buffet, with four kinds of salad, turnip, potatoes, mixed veggies, cabbage rolls, perogies, stuffing, turkey, and roast beef. I didn't have the turkey, beef, or stuffing. Instead, I had two cabbage rolls, about six perogies (with sour cream), some turnips, some spinach salad that had sliced hard boiled eggs on top, and some broccoli salad. That filled my plate!

I keep thinking about how big my cyst is 10cm is the size of a grapefruit! That must be doing something to my waistline, though I doubt it's adding much in the way of poundage, since it's probably just fluid inside. I think it's really astounding that I have a "grapefruit" on my grape-sized ovary!

I have decided that I am going to look on YouTube for dance tutorials. I want to learn Bollywood dancing, belly dancing, and hip-hop. I have a lot of hip-hop music that I listen to during the day here at home, and I think it would be great if, when one of the really danceable songs comes on, I could stand up and dance to it! Nobody's here to see me except the cat and the guinea pig, so I figure a tutorial that I can start and stop as I go will be really helpful. I don't have to feel stupid if I trip myself up or anything. emoticon

emoticon Kathy - I bet you're the reason we won Week Two!

emoticon Margaret - CAKE?!? Wow. My biggest problem with food and J is that he doesn't really need to watch what he eats and actually needs more carbs than I do (and fat) just to get through the day. I try to make healthy choices for both of us and I try to make sure that I only eat when I'm actually hungry and only enough to satisfy me. I had some cookies last night while we were watching TV, and normally I would have eaten the entire package (seriously) but I only had six (they were Chips Ahoy). So that is a victory. Look for the victories and try to explain to your husband about eating HEALTHY and having things like cake for TREATS. And maybe next time he wants cake, he can make cupcakes? It's a lot easier to limit those!

emoticon Margaret - No, I haven't read the Hunger Games. Everyone keeps talking about those books; I guess I'll have to get on them eventually. I have a lot of books that I've started and haven't finished, though, so I want to get through them first.

emoticon Barbara - I'm glad your husband's shoulder is better! Hooray!

emoticon Kathy - Photo cards are a great idea! Maybe we'll do some one of these years. emoticon

emoticon Margaret - Good luck with the sleeping. It really is great when you can get in a regular number of hours every night.

emoticon Debbie - Sounds like you'll be traveling a lot over the next couple of weeks. Good luck!

emoticon Barbara - My parents have the record of that musical; we know the lyrics to nearly all the songs, and used to talk about putting it on. Dad used to sing "Suppertime" sometimes when we were kids, too!

emoticon Andrea - I hope you're having a great week!

Good morning my friends. I had an awesome workout at Zumba last night. Tonight I plan to do day 9 of the 12 day challenge. I am determined to finish that even though it wasn't 12 days in a row. I still feel it in the bottom which is a good sign. Only 3 more days of work today. woo hoo. I am ready for some relaxation and family time.

@ Margaret - way to go on checking off one day's goals for the week! keep it up. Enjoy your relaxation after the hustle and bustle. I know I am looking forward to it. Last night my grandson picked out the movie he wanted to watch. Now just hope it is still here by Friday. Jack & Jill - his mom said it was supposed to fe pretty funny.

Have an awesome day all my Poinsettia Buddies!

Hi Poinsettias!

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! I'm getting my last errands done today before Christmas Eve. 12 rows left to knit on my daughter's scarf....an a few border rows...then I'm done! I'm looking forward to a bit of relaxation, once the hustle & bustle are finished!

@Barbara....have fun with your grandson! And thanks for the encouragement! One day down and I'm off to a good start on this week's goal! :)

Just a quick check in with my Poinsettia Buddies this morning before I get ready for work. I can't believe this is the week before Christmas. It seems it has come so fast. Wednesday is the office party at lunch. Friday I am taking off and my 14 year old grandson and I and possibly hubby are going to a movie. Not sure what our plans are for Christmas. I guess I'd better check with my son and his wife to see what their plans are. Hubby has his appointment with the ear doctor this morning. Hopefully that goes well.

@ Margaret - Great goals for this week. I hope you are able to achieve them!

@ Debbie - Hubby and I took a train ride to Seattle about a year and a half ago and it was a lot of fun - 6 hours each way which was the same as it takes us to drive, but it was so much more fun and relaxing than driving.

Well, I best get moving so I am not late.

Hi Poinsettia Buddies!
Wishing you all a Magical Monday!

Wow! Already the week of Christmas....time has just flown this month! I made a goal for this week...I've even written it down, so no excuse that I forgot! :) My goal for the week is to stick to my fitness/nutrition program for all 7 days...even Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. I figure that if I can stick to plan on those two days, the other 363 days should be a snap!
emoticon

@Debbie....when I was in college (years ago), my best friend and I took the train from Windsor to Toronto. We drove to Windsor from the Detroit area, where both of us lived. I still remember that trip as one of the best I've ever been on! We were counting our pennies...being in college..so we went in the off-season....FEBRUARY! Brrrr! But had such a great time! Since it was the off-season, we were able to stay in a very lush hotel...which was fabulous! The train ride was such fun...we met all kinds of people! I think it lasted several hours....just the right amount of time!

@Barbara....the play sounds like fun! I have never seen "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown", but he has always been one of my favorite characters and I am a huge Charles Schulz fan. The Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon is a MUST for me, every Christmas season. Glad you and your husband enjoyed it!

@Andrea, Janna, & Kathy - Hope you are all doing well!

Have a great day, everyone!

Good evening Poinseetia's! Ray and I are still discussing our road trip. He came up with another idea that sounds good too. Which is taking the Heartland Flyer to Gainesville TX for the day. I have only been on a train once. Ray and I are still talking about it. We have not made any firm commitments either way yet.

Barabara, I have seen the play Your a Good Man Charlie Brown. It has been a few yearsbut I really enjoyed it.

Kathy, hope you enjoyed you weekend. Sorry to hear your mom is having the Christmas time blues. I can understand been having a case of the blues the last couple of days myself. Just towards the end of the evening.

Ladies, I really appreciate all of you. Hope that all of you had a AWESOME weekend with plans of having an even mor AWESOME week and Christmas. Catch you all tomorrow.

Good evening my Poinsettia Buddies! We had a great night out of town! The Youth Theater play was "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" and it was very well done and quite entertaining. Today we thoroughly enjoyed church at our favorite church. We really wish it were closer so we could go every Sunday, but since it is not we enjoy it whenever we can. We had fun dressing up in my red dress and hubby's red blazer. It is so hard to believe that it is a week until Christmas. I guess this week I had better get some presents wrapped.

@ Kaathy - It sounds like you had a very enjoyable weekend off! I hope you enjoyed your walk to the restaurant and looking at the Christmas lights, etc.

@ Debbie - Sounds like you have a nice road trip planned. Enjoy your trip, drive safe, and have a very Merry Christmas!

To my other Poinsettia Buddies, I hope you are having a great time with your families and friends!

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all having a great Sunday! A quiet day here, just finishing up some loose ends to get ready for Christmas!

@Kathy...great that you are getting all of that walking in!
@Debbie....my husband was stationed at Fort Sill, and my daughter was born there! We have not been there in years....hope you enjoy your visit!
@Barbara....I don't like to use earplugs, but have used them for the last several nights with good results. I've also been trying to get into the habit of going to bed at the same time each night. I think that will help my body get into a routine.

Have a peacceful night, Poinsettias!

Good evening!!

@Debbie Sounds like a wonderful trip you have planned.

@Barbara Hope you have good time getting out!

@Margaret Sitting down and planning food is a great idea!

@Janna & Andrea Hope you had a great day!!

I am enjoying my time off. Spent the afternoon with mom. She has the winter blues caused mostly, I think by the pain in her knee and accompanying inability to get things done.

Now I am off to hike to a restaurant downtown. We are giving sister and BIL a gift certificate from there. Figure if I walk there and back, I can have a burger and coffee. Planned ahead all day, so I can have it even if I were to drive. Not real cold or snowing, so walking is the plan. That way I can look in the store windows and at people's Christmas lights.

WOOHOO! Poinsettia's Rock! Great job on week 2's challenge!I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend1

Barbara, have a nice trip and enjoyable evening out of town this evening. I am begining to get a litte bit of cititis. Which means I am ready for a road trip.

We plan on going to Dallas for Christmas. We are making plans to go to Lawton after New Year's to visit the White Plains Museum and the Fort Sill army museum. Fort Sill is one of the first Army installations while Oklahoma was still just Indian territory. I was born there an promised Ray we would go an visit some of the museums and the Wild life preserve.

Kathy, enjoy your weekend off the group home. I don't have a trampoline. I do have a gazelle.and a Wii.

Margaret, just be patient with your DH. I am sure if you help him understand. He will see the light.

Catch you all later!

Just wanted to check in to say hi and congrats on a job well down last week! We did awesome.

We will be leaving in about 2 hours to go out of town for the evening. We are going to a youth musical in a town about 2 hours south of us. They have such amazing talent. We have gone to a couple before are they do an amazing job so I am sure we won't be disappointed. We'll spend the night and attend a church down there that we love and wish was in our town.

@ Hunnnybee - way to go on working on a sleep pattern. It is so important to our bodies. I used to have such a hard time sleeping at night, but for the most part now I get good sleep for at leasst 8 hours most nights. What steps are you taking to get into one?

@ Kathy - enjoy your weekend off!

@ Hunnnybee - Good luck on talking to your DH and working out the cooking. I know what you mean about appreciating it, but - because I was the same way.

@ Andrea - I hope you are feeling good and enjoying your break from the homework!

Well, my friends, I'd better finish packing and eat, etc. I plan to have an awesome weekend and I hope you all will also!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been taking steps to ensure good sleep in the past two nights and have had great results! I'm hoping to get into good sleep patterns....maybe I'll be able to get 8 hours on a regular basis! Feels SO good!

@Kathy....Nice for you to have the weekend off! Enjoy!!!

@Barbara & Debbie....thank you for your understanding & suggestions on the situation with my DH and his cooking! It's not that I don't appreciate his effort...but you know what will happen if it continues! YIKES! I DO have some wonderful cookbooks...and perhaps he and I will sit down together and pick a few things for our menus!

And thank you all for your good wishes for my daughter & her husband on the interviews...I will keep you posted!

Hope everyone has a Spectacular Saturday!

Hello Everybody! YEAH US!!! emoticon

Had another great day! It was cold today, but the sun was shining, so it wasn't so bad.

Made photo cards with Mom for her to send. She doesn't send many, so it wasn't all that tough. My sister in California sent her a beautiful FTD bouquet last week. I took pictures of her with it, and they turned out so good, we decided she should use them for cards.

Now some trampoline jumping workout while a watch little Hulu. That is the only way I can watch tv, if I am doing something else at the same time. Perfect for my Gazelle, ball, and tramp workouts. Then just enough time for a little nap before this last night at work until Monday night. I do have to do deep clean at both banks every weekend, but that is enjoyable and a great workout, so I don't count it as having to work.

Later, my friends!

Hello Poinsettia's! I have now sent off our total points off twice once to Susan and again to Sheila. I need to learn to check my email more often.

Barbara, hope your DH is feeling better. I have sent Sheila and you both emails and the site said that they were sent. I hope you got them.

janna, don't worry if you were a little late with the points. I was having some trouble getting on yesterday. I love the idea of the emoticon in front of each comment meant for us.

Margaret, I to can sympathize with you. When Ray retired before me. He did most of the cooking. Bless his heart! One year of living on Hamburger Helper most of the time. I pulled out one of my many cookbooks. Being a diabetic all of my cookbooks have the conversion chart for using sugar subsitute instead of sugar. He still complains about how many cookbooks I have. There are one or two he likes to use.

Kathy, great job on getting all the exercising done.

Andrea, have a great Christmas break even if you do have to work through it. Find some ME time for yourself.

This team rocks!

HUGS

Good morning my friends. I am very happy to have Friday here. Even though this week went extremely fast I am still ready for it. I plan to have a Fantastic Friday and I hope each of you will too

Our trip to Eugene to visit the doctor was long and very tiring for hubby. It's a little over 1 hour drive each way plus almost an hour wait for a 5 minute appointment, but the good news is his shoulder is doing great and we don't go back for 2 years.

The ear doctor called in a prescription for hubby and today he seems to be feeling much better. I am not sure what it was but it helped with the plugged ear and noise and he isn't coughing as much so I think he is finally on the way to recovery (we've thought that before) after nearly 2 weeks.

@ Margaret - so happy your daugthter and her husband arrived safely. I wish them luck on the interviews.

@ Margaret - my hubby is retired while I still work also and he does all of the shopping, cooking, etc. so I can totally relate. When we first got married 6+ years ago my husband did the same thing. It took lots of discussions before he finally came to the realization of what he was doing. He still isn't the best, but he has stopped baking so much. At one point when I was really struggling I would make me a list of what I could (would like to) have and he was really good with that. I wish you lots of luck. My husband has finally come to the realization that he should not have the goodies either. Trust me you are not alone with the no self control when it is in the house.

@Barbara...stay well and I hope your DH feels better soon. My daughter swears by "Emergen-C" for colds. I have never tried it, but she says if she feels one coming on, she takes it right away and always has good results!

@Kathy...good job working stairs into your daily routine! I know doing things like that become routine and keep you healthy almost without even thinking about it!

@Janna...I noticed your reading list....have you read the "Hunger Games" trilogy by Suzanne Collins? I'm reading the 3rd book now and have enjoyed it.

Poinsettias....have a great day!

Hi Poinsettias!
Fantastic Friday to everyone!

My daughter and husband are in North Carolina on interviews...arrived safely last night after a 13-hour drive. Was glad to hear they were there safe and sound, and I slept well last night!
emoticon

I'm hoping someone has some tips or advice for me: My husband is retired and I still work. He is a wonderful cook, but has never struggled with weight issues. (Lucky!) Yesterday I came home from work...tired of course! Guess what he made for dinner? CAKE! What???
emoticon
NO...it's not anybody's birthday....he just had a taste for cake. An entire layer cake...for two of us.

OK...now I know that I should have enough self control to make myself a tuna salad. And I did. But do you know...that cake called to me ALL evening.
emoticon

I can stay on track with cake in the house....if I am not tired, worrying, stressed, unhappy, distracted, and the list goes on. In other words...I can stay on track with cake in the house if all of the stars are in alignment.

Any suggestions?

emoticon emoticon

Good evening!! Busy, productive day today. Mom started occupational therapy on her hand. It is numb and some muscle atrophy. So far they have ruled things out, but not what is causing it. Rather frustrating!

Did my 4 hour cleaning job in 3 hours tonight. Worked up quite the sweat, but figured I'd see how fast I could do a good job. Burned more calories as well. I have decided to keep the laptop downstairs, so I have to do stairs to use it. Really been on the stairs alot the last few days. emoticon My bedroom and main bathroom are upstairs. Kitchen and living room downstairs. Keep going down steps and laundry and now computer! Added little workout bonus!! Also started running up/down stairs at the group home at night. They are heavily carpeted, so it doesn't bother anybody.

@Barbara-Hope the hubby's cold is better and that you don't catch it.

@Margaret-I will have to check out that knot garden site. Maybe, just maybe, I will have to try it. Just a little one.

@Andrea-Hooray for Christmas Break!!!! Enjoy yourself.

@Debbie-My points threw me at first also. I even used the calculator to multiply it out to make sure. Figured I had to have done something wrong. LOL

Want to get my work done here at the group home quickly, so I can put my feet up for a bit before anybody needs anything. Still have to eat dinner as well.

Have a great night!

Hi, Poinsettia Team!
I just received SparkMail from Izzybebop saying that she needs to take her page offline for a while and asking me to take charge of the weekly point totals until she gets back. I don't know who is team captain but please ask that person to send the point totals to me at the end of each week until further notice.
Thanks,
Sheila

Here is my post to reply to all of you! I posted a very long update about my day yesterday. I probably talked too much. emoticon I'm going to reply to all of you in this post, maybe more than once. I'm going to give each of you an emoticon at the beginning of the line and you can look for that image for more that I've written to you. emoticon

emoticon Margaret - Don't worry about your daughter possibly moving somewhere warm. I have a friend who lived in San Francisco for several years, and she still wore knitted things like scarves, hats, and fingerless mitts - she even modeled some for a designer she knew! Especially a scarf is great in the fall and on cool evenings, even if it's not COLD. emoticon

emoticon Barbara - My mom was complaining about arthritis yesterday. She said that she has pain in her hands and in her right thumb that used to be there and went away. She also has trigger fingers, and that has come back with a vengeance in the last little while. These things are all really annoying for her because they make it difficult for her to type, write, and play the piano. She actually went to secretarial college when she was done high school, so I'm sure you can imagine how annoying the typing thing is. She also likes to do crossword puzzles, which of course require her to write things down, and she teaches piano! My hands get stiff sometimes from the knitting and crocheting, but I know lots of stretches thanks to having tendonitis, so I try to keep my hands loose and flexible. I'm sure that eventually it won't matter and I'll have to switch to knitting looms and an ergonomic crochet hook handle or something. We were looking at them at the store yesterday because Mom would like to get back to knitting and crocheting but her hands won't let her anymore.

emoticon Kathy - Seed catalogs? Do you keep a garden at your home? What do you plant? I want to have a few gardens here on our property and have been thinking about where to put them and how to arrange them. Do you have any tips for a newbie? emoticon

emoticon Debbie - I only text with my one friend really. It's an easy way for us to keep in touch if we're supposed to be meeting up somewhere and can't find each other or I'm leaving late or something. My phone is so old that I have to use the number pad and scroll through the letters, though - I can't wait to get a smartphone, because I'll be able to type properly! emoticon

emoticon Margaret - Mmmm... Christmas party and goodies. emoticon When last summer was your daughter married? J and I got married at the beginning of July in 2010.

emoticon Kathy - Ugh, I hate rain so much. I like snow better. Rain makes me cold and wet; snow just makes me cold (except if I fall in it, but that's not quite as likely as rain getting me sopping). Also, snow is prettier and you don't have to deal with the mud until it melts. emoticon Then again, rain makes everything greener, and I like that. Ah, either way it's precipitation, which is important for all that green stuff outside!

emoticon Barbara - How was Zumba last night? I hope you had a great time!

emoticon Andrea - The cyst is on my ovary, not my uterus. That's a good tip, though. I will make sure to remember that. Thank you! They're pretty sure the cyst is NOT cancerous, since it isn't a complex cyst (which someone said it was back a few months ago) and my blood test came back normal. Also my age makes it less likely. My favourite books are mostly light fantasy, urban fantasy, and light science fiction. I also read a lot of YA fiction, in pretty much every genre. My favourite authors are Robin McKinley, Charles de Lint, and Lurlene McDaniel. I try new authors via the library. emoticon What are your favourites?

emoticon Debbie - Congrats on the weight loss! Hooray!

emoticon Margaret - Sleep can be a big challenge for me. I go through times when I just don't get tired for a week or two and exist on maybe four or five hours of sleep a night. I can't nap during the day unless I am truly exhausted, either. It's so difficult, because people so often say that I should take a nap if I'm tired, but I can't! Basically, once I'm up, I'm UP! The knot garden sounds really cool. I love Celtic knots, so this is definitely something I will want to look into!

emoticon Kathy - Hm. I wonder if raised beds (on a layer of stone or wood) would help with the black walnut problem? That is so strange and so annoying!

emoticon Barbara - I hope your husband's appointment went well. emoticon

emoticon Debbie - Wow, 20 toys and only seven people? That's three toys per person! That really is amazing! I'm sure the children who receive those toys will love them. emoticon

emoticon Barbara - I hope your husband's cold gets better soon. Have a safe trip and we will see you when you post next!

Peace & Blessings!

Hi everyone! I have just submitted my points for week two - sorry I am late with it. Yesterday was a long day and I've been having trouble getting going today. emoticon

My doctor's appointment was okay. The cyst was a little bigger, so I am on the wait list for surgery. It could be anywhere from three to six months until I get in. At least it's not really a huge deal. The only real complication that could come up is if it makes the ovary twist, since that can cut off the blood supply and if you don't get it looked after immediately you could lose the ovary.

After the doctor, I went to the mall and got my hair trimmed. It was nice to have someone else brushing it out and washing it for a change! The guy at the next station had to fix a little girl's hair; she was about three and had cut her shoulder-length hair to just below her ear on the left side. When my trim was finished, that guy came and helped my stylist blow dry my hair. (My hair is nearly long enough to sit on, and it's pretty thick.) The stylist put Moroccan oil in my hair to help keep the ends healthy since they don't get any natural oils on them (too far away). She tried to sell it to me at the salon, but I try to avoid buying product at salons since it's so expensive. I bought a bottle of Argan Oil (same thing) at the grocery store later since the brand I use for shampoo and conditioner sells it. It was still expensive, but at least it's a brand I trust!

I found some wool socks at Zellers. I'm going to wear them for running in this winter. Cotton really won't cut it. Then I went to Tim Horton's and had lunch and did some work on a report I need to have finished editing later this afternoon while I waited for my mom to arrive.

I spent the afternoon with my mom, who was in town to pick up her piano lid. The movers smushed it when they moved from Thunder Bay to Prince Albert. (When they moved from Rocky Mountain House to Thunder Bay back in 1999, the movers broke the pedals off her other piano. Movers don't know how to move pianos. That is the take-away lesson here. Never trust them.) We talked for a while at Tim Horton's, and I showed her the baby stuff, and then we went and got the piano lid. Then we headed to a music store that sells mostly piano-centric music and goodies (though they do have a mouse pad with clarinets on it, and will order in any other music I want, and there's a great selection of theory and history books). Then to Michaels for the skinny ribbon I need to finish the baby stuff, as well as a new bag of polyfil since I used up what I had making knitted plot bunnies for NaNoWriMo. We also stopped at PetSmart and I got a bag of timothy hay because Batman was running low. Then Mom dropped me off back at my truck and I went to Safeway for a few groceries before I headed back to J's work to get him.

J and I got home and I had a call from the mom of the young woman I do community access with, confirming for my shift. I dished up dinner (leftover mashed potatoes that I heated in the microwave and a pork loin roast that I'd put in the Crock Pot before we left that morning) and ate, then headed back to town to do my shift. We went to a dollar store and she found a pretty bracelet for the girl she has for Secret Santa at her school, and I found two lovely hair sticks that I'm going to choose between for Saturday (J's work party).

J and I watched two episodes of Castle before we went to bed last night. We're catching up (quickly) and will start watching the new episodes each week probably in January or something. We don't have TV service - we'd have to pay for satellite if we did that, because cable doesn't do rural - so we find our shows online. We watch Sanctuary, Bones, The Big Bang Theory, and Fringe every week. We've also been watching Dr Who (starting at the beginning, so really old first doctor episodes still) and Law & Order (we're in season four or five now, I think, and we've seen all of them before anyway). We also recently watched all of Futurama! I like to watch Being Erica (a show on CBC that is just amazing) but I have to find times when J isn't around to watch that because he makes fun of it and isn't interested in it at all.

Well, that was a long update. I'm going to post this now and reply to all of you in another post. Otherwise it will be way too long. emoticon

Peace & Blessings!

Good morning my friends. Just time for a quick check in this morning. I slept really good last night, but hubby is still fighting his cold or whatever it is after a week and a half. Last night he had a really unpleasant night. I think he has a prescription to pick up today so hopefully that will help him. I work until noon then we're off to another town about an hour away for his final check up with the shoulder surgeon.

@ Kathy - way to go on all those fitness points. Maybe if I had a job like yours I could see some results. of course, I am sure I would not be able to handle it.

@ Debbie - that is awesome that your small group collected 20 toys for the toy drive. I love doing stuff like that!

@ Margaret - that garden sounds interesting. I wrote down the site to check it out. Thanks.

Well, my friends, I will try to check in when we get home if it isn't too late. have a great day to our new week!

Again I am sneaking in at the last minute! Had a busy day cleaning house most of the day. Had company for a couple of hours. Then off to my 8/40 meeting/Christmas party. We collected a little over 20 stuffed toys for the Toy for Tpts drove mpt bad somce there was only 7 members at the meeting.

Barbara, I got your points thanks for sending them to me.

Kathy, I have to admit I was a little startled when I first saw your points. Then I figured it out consdiering where you work.

I will be totaling the point a little after 1pm tomorrow so if you don't have your template filled out yet and plan to please have it done before then. My bed is calling me so check in with you tomorrow.

OK ladies, when you look at my total for the week, keep in mind that I do a heavy cleaning job that I count as exercise because it is. I work out at the group home, and walk and do Zumba as much as possible. So these numbers look just ridiculous, but they are real.

Just a quick note tonight I have my week 2 points totaled. I came up with 5,270 points.

I had a busy day at work today working on an annual accounting for a conservatorship - always fun accounting for someone else's money and expenses for a whole year and this one is especially complex so I didn't get anywhere near finished. But, the good thing is that I had work to keep me busy.

I went to the Zumba at my gym tonight as the college class was over. I love this class and I will be continuing with this one now. The instructor is so energetic that I am really sweating by the end of the class, well, actually, during the warm up.

Tomorrow we will be out of town in the afternoon. Hubby has a follow up appointment with the surgeon that did his shoulder surgery last year. Should be a quick appointment as all seems to be going well and it has been over a year since the surgery.

I will try to check in tomorrow morning if I have time. Otherwise it will be later in the evening. I hope everyone finished week 2 emoticon and is now ready to emoticon some more before Christmas!

Margaret that garden sounds so awesome!! Also, something I know I would not have time to do even small. emoticon I have plenty of sun in my yard. The black walnut tree is toxic to many plants, and the roots are spreading to my yard. It is that big. It makes it difficult to know where it is safe to plant some things, and I don't always like to plant what can tolerate the black walnut.

Great that you are getting the sleep you need.

Hi Everyone!

@Barbara & Kathy....I should have gone into more detail on knot gardens!
Here is a link that gives an example of one:
http://www.finegardening.com/pages/g0021
9.asp

Basically, you use a variety of 3-6 different herbs/plants to form a Celtic Knot pattern. It takes some planning, but the results are very pretty. :) I am going to start VERY small. Kathy, I don't have a lot of sun in my yard either (big trees), so I will have to plan carefully.

@ Debbie...Congrats on the weight loss and the windfall! WOOHOO! Great news!
@ Andrea...YAY! Christmas Break! Have a great one!

Funny....I think someone is trying to tell me something! This week one of our challenges involves sleep...I have come across 2 Spark emails that have information on getting good sleep, and I have picked up 2 magazines with articles on sleep!
emoticon

So, sweet dreams tonight Poinsettias!

Margaret
