Me too Anne. I've done it several different ways, but there are recipes on Spark. Or just Google, "roasted garbanzos" you'll find something. The seasonings change depending on the mood I'm in.

I am somewhat scatterbrained so it varies. I think I usually start out at about 350 and stir them every 20 minutes and when I get impatient I turn it up higher. Also, if I am cooking something else in the oven I am liable to take advantage of it and put some in while the oven is hot anyway...
I'm not sure how long it takes even but there are recipes, maybe even on sparkrecipes, giving real directions! lol I am a very irregular, impulsive, spontaneous, and impromptu sort of cook. I play in the kitchen.

Mike-
I like to cook them like other beans and then season them with spicy stuff and roast them in a slow oven until they are dry and crunchy. It makes a handy, healthy, portable, protein snack.

I like garbanzos partially mashed up with some salsa, fresh garlic and fresh onions.

I like garbanzos, adzuki or kidney beans on my salad. I love black beans but I always eat them hot.

Ann, that's awesome about your blood pressure!! Maybe I'll add some canned tomato products into the plan in the future.

Roxann, I'll give the garbanzo beans a try tomorrow. I just love black beans in soups, but salads are a completely different manner. Thanks for the suggestion!

Maybe the problem is that you chose black beans. Those have a rather unique strong flavor. It's a taste that has to grow on you, I think. Maybe try kidney beans or garbanzo beans instead. The flavor of those is quite different.

I use canned tomatoes a lot; it is one of my few sodium compromises. My blood pressure has nonetheless dropped to quite normal from quite high...

Ann and Mike, Thanks for the suggestions. To be honest I've never been a "salt person." My parents never put it on my food growing up and I always hated added salt. It's just that I've always made chili with canned tomato products and I know canned food has added salt (not that I can taste it). I know I can rinse off the beans, but I really can't rinse off tomato paste or sauce. I'm not sure how to make the chil without canned tomato products.

Debbie, I make my chili with hot paprika, ground chilis, cumin, garlic, and oregano. I was a huge salt freak but you really do get used to it being cut way back.

Hi if you want a salty taste without salt, use braggs liquid amino acids, the sodium is much less than soy sauce and it is natural occurring not an added salt

Mike, Mama, and Roxann- Thank you all for the great ideas! The salsa and chili sound good. I'll have to figure out a way to make chili without all the salt. I love chili!

Vikki- I shouldn't have said "no rice allowed" rather that I have one good starch a day and I'm not wasting it on brown rice everyday when I have a garden full of fresh butternut squash! I love starchy veggies like sweet potatoes and squash. I eventually want to try that pita apple bake too- it will work with the 6 week plan.

I don't know what it was about the black beans on the salad, but they really grossed me out. Maybe it was because the beans were cold? They just tasted awful! I was also struggling with how BITTER the romaine lettuce tasted and the fact that I didn't use any salad dressing. My plan was to use apple cider vinegar, but it was STRONG! I couldn't even stand it when I just dipped my fork in a bit of it. I'm going to have to scour the stores for something different tomorrow.

It's all still so new! I'm confident I'll get there. Thanks again to everyone for all of your support! I wouldn't have gotten through day one without all of you!

I'm with Roxann here. I've gone through tons of simple home made chili on salads. Also refried beans (non fat).

Plain beans can be a little difficult to take. Try making chili out of your beans and putting that on your salad.

I'm not sure where you found "no rice allowed," but you can have 1 cup of whole grains OR starchy vegetable per day on the six week plan.

I like garbanzo beans on my salads. Be sure to rinse your beans really well and then let them drain well.

I'd be interested to know what you didn't like about the black beans on a salad when you like them other ways.

I just made some black bean salsa for tonight. A can of no salt black beans, tomatoes, onion, and chilies, nothing fancy. I'll put these in lettuce leaves for wraps.

I am also just starting so I am trying to think of new things that don't use oil, salt, ect...

Hi everyone!

I actually started my first day of the Eat To Live 6 week plan today. I had a huge salad for lunch and attempted to put 1 cup on beans on it, but I just couldn't stand the taste. I rinsed some canned black beans extremely well and put them on my salad- I felt like throwing up. It was bad! I love black beans and rice (but no rice allowed) and beans in my soup, but I don't know if soup is okay during the first six weeks... Does anyone know of any bean soup recipes or pre-prepared bean soups that are okay to eat for lunch in the first 6 weeks?

I'm feeling overwhelmed and stuck! Please help!! I really want this plan to work for me!
