My long term cooking goals are to do big batch cooking when appropriate, balance nutrition and enjoy the results. Planning ahead is hard as emotional things get in the way. But I keep trying.

I have been adding recipes from SP recipes for the past several weeks to my favorites. I'm going to continue to make my list for the store. I'm adding a a notepad to my fridge for things I run out of. I have a calendar with meals listed for the days so I know what to cook for supper. I'm having my daughter help start supper times when I'm running late. When I make a pasta dish or casserole I'm going to double the batch and freeze one for a future meal.

I have been trying new recipes especially for desserts. My DH is diabetic and loves things that are not necessarily good for him. I made the apple hand pies. They were a bit fussy to make but he really enjoyed them.

had the day off. my hubby emailed and asked me to go to the store. we never made a list or menu plan for the week so i hoped we would have leftovers for 2 nights so i planned only 1 meal.

i will have to make this goal a priority.

I finally cleaned my refridgerator today. only had 1 lemon that was bad and needed to be thrown out,. but otherwise i washed the shelves and they are now set. i still have other cupboards to clean, but i want to make it a habit to keep cleaning in my kitchen so it does not build up.

I'm working on a binder too. I'm condensing all my recipes in one place. My files have gotten so out of hand. This will make it easier to plan meals.

I am putting together a binder of Spark recipes we really like that I have printed off. It is very helpful to have this when planning menus each week. I also have recipes I would like to try. I am trying to do at least 2 new recipes each week. Often I do more. I find if I can keep myself out of the eating rut I do better on my plan.

I have been working with this challenge for the past 4 weeks and I am actually better for it right now. I have done better on batch cooking, started using Canola oil (a healthier oil), baking instead of frying. I now pack my lunch at least 3 times a week and last of all I now have a weekly meal planning, I know what to eat each day and I do not feel bored with it. I am happy with myself right now.

My long term goals are to continue menu planning, and organizing grocery runs so I do not break the food or calorie budget. I will continue to utilize spark recipes as a source for healthy ideas and use substitutions and cooking techniques for healthier results in our eating habits. These tools make it so much easier and much more fun. Thanks!

My long term goal is to have a series of weekly menus that I can rotate so that it takes less time to do my grocery planning each week. I also want to cook and freeze single portions so that I am not cooking every day and so that I waste less food.

long term cooking goals: Keep building my healthy recipe bank. Continue planning my menus for the week, followed by a shopping trip to pick up the groceries needed. When making a recipe with multiple servings I will freeze the extras for future meals so I always have some made ahead meals in the freezer.

I have found on pinterest in have found a couple of websites that have freezer to crockpot recipes. You prepare all the prep work and place in a gallon bag all the ingredients for that recipe (of course bag meat, veggies, etc separately, then into gallon bag) You can put together several bags at one time in an hour then freeze. Take out the day before you need it, let defrost in fridge & into crockpot the next morning. I am freezing individual left overs from any meal so it doesn't go bad but also so healthy choices are available when I come in too late to cook or too tired. emoticon

I am going to keep batch-cooking in my slow cooker, freezing the extra (that I don't give to my daughter), and planning my meals. My daughter and her family is eating healthier along with me.

Although some of my new recipes weren't big hits, I do want to keep trying to find healthy ways of making great food and finding healthy new meals to enjoy. And I have to remember that sometimes eating is only about nutrition, every meal does not have to be show-stopping, mouth-watering creations. I so love my new basic veg casserole and it is so simple to make - recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

My long term goals are to continue to plan meals for the week and to try one new recipe at least every 2 weeks (maybe more often - but, every 2 weeks sounds achievable).

Durning this challenge I have found meal planning, with some preparing ahead, the most helpful. When I get home from work, I am far less likely to snack on unhealthy foods when I do not have dinner planned and easy to prepare. I have also dusted off my George Foreman grill. I had forgot how wonderfully this cooked chicken breasts! I want a rice cooker.....asked for one for Christmas;)

I had signed up for this challenge with the hope it would motivate me to get back on track. I did! Thank you SP!

My long-term cooking goals are much like most other people in here. I plan to continue planning our weekly meals, trying out new recipes, and adding more vegetarian meals to our menu. The whole family has really taken a liking to Indian curries, so I'll be experimenting a lot with that.

I have found that planning our weekly menu has helped immensely in my goal to avoid fast food. I don't have the excuse of "I don't know what to cook and nothing's thawed out, so I guess we'll get McDonald's." With a plan, there's no excuses! I've been fast-food free for about 4 weeks now!

BAM! Wooo!! Not only did Hubby and I cut the food bill during this challenge (because food prep is a join effort) but we lost weight. We haven't been able to PT as much (school and my injury) so it's nice to know we're doing something.

Goals: KEEP doing it! We've been planning ahead, cooking for the whole week on our slow day, and portioning it out. I clip the coupons and we shop only when we're out of milk or bananas now.

My biggest long-term goal will be to maintain a habit of planning dinners and going grocery shopping on Sundays. I find that if anything will derail my ability to cook healthy dinners, then this will.

Also, I plan on creating a more organized system for compiling the recipes I've saved online (I'm thinking either on a Pinterest board or printing recipes out and putting in a binder; not all recipes I've collected online have pictures). Also, using Post-it flags to mark favorite recipes in my cookbooks would be great

My long trem goal is to continue to shop the sale items, rotate my garden crops and plan my menu and meals around them. This allows me to keep food costs low, while adding variety and seasonal foods to my eating plan in a healthful, less wasteful way.

I've picked up several healthy tips through this challenge. I've gone back and created a notes file and consolidated all the things I want to remember so I can refer to them often. I wish SparkPeople had a Notes tab added to the SparkPages. It would really be helpful to me. I intend to continue to try out new recipes. I'm continually learning new and good food and snack combinations. I plan on continuing my new of routine of cooking a healthy meal on as many Fridays as I can. I don't do more than that, because my husband is the usual cook during the week & we go out to eat on Saturday nights & Sunday afternoons and usually one other night of the week. But what I cook on Fridays make for good leftovers at times. And it helps us both to learn more about how to prepare healthier foods. Because of the challenge, I'm going to try to start organizing my grocery lists according to how the store is laid out; to help make the shopping routine run a little faster. I've learned that the single-serving items are more expensive, but they save time and help with portion control. I want to start trying to prepare snacks in portions for a whole week, or at least the night before. A few cooking substitutes I want to remember are: Olive Oil or Canola oil instead of margarine or butter...Brown rice instead of white rice...2 egg whites instead of one egg...artificial sweetener for some or all instead of sugar (1/4 to 1/2 less sugar in recipe). I'm also wondering about planting my own herbs. I wonder if it is a lot of work, how beneficial it would be, etc.

I am amazed at how much my food budget has gone down by planning meals and portion control. My contributions to my compost pile have become quite sparse and I have much less trash. I'm going to have to make veggie soup soon with all the scraps in my freezer. This new eating lifestyle is a win win. i'm motivated.

I have noticed a huge difference since I've been planning my meals and doing the shopping list. I now shop just twice a week so that I'm not losing a lot of fresh produce due to the fact that it spoils before it is eaten. I plan to seek out local produce and u-pick gardens. I'm even starting my own home fall garden where I can go out and pick my own local salad every day. Thanks!!

I think my long term goal will be a lot easier now that my husband is on board with loosing weight. He is actually counting calories now. So, he asks me how many are in what I am cooking. This is making me much more aware and accountable. We have really changed our eating habits and I think it will be a life long change. My goal is to continue on this path and learn more about nutritional content and how to include all the needed vitamins and minerals in my cooking.
