My goals for this week are:

1. Reduce screen time--my husband and I are working on limiting screen time to one family movie night a week, and also to keep ipod/ipad play to a minimum as well
2. Stop bringing processed snacks and sweets into the house.
3. More active play with my daughter, and going outside to play, even when it's cold!

My family of three (my husband, myself & our 2 1/2 year old daughter) is a family that usually hits the drive-thru on the way to take my husband wherever it is he needs/wants to be that evening. Then when he gets home late we eat again. Been trying to stop this for the past couple of weeks and have done pretty good, but still need to conquer the drive-thru.

My goals for my family is:
1. To spend more quality time together
2. Learn to eat healthier at home
3. Get more active (my daughter has been working out with me...well her version of working out, but I can't get my husband to do anything)

I'm looking forward to doing this challenge and hope my family (well I should say my husband) works with me on this. I want us to be better role models for our daughter.

My family's week goals are:

1. No pop this week - just poured out the last of the bottle we had in the fridge now
2. Family Fitness - 3 times a week play on the wii or xbox with daughter (she loves just dance)
3. Swap for healthy dessert/sweets - this is our down fall I need to get those bad snacks out
4. Plan our meals better - going to write it down and stick as close to it as possible
5. Move homework time to the dining room table instead of on the couch in front of the tv

1. Reduce screen time: We actually started doing this with the kids over our Christmas break. We let them watch a bit in the morning on weekends only and at night a half hour before bed. I keep it off during the day and they have done wonderfully.

My husband and I on the other hand will probably be the ones to struggle with this challenge. We work every night on our laptops while watching a movie. While we can both use more quality time together, work does come first so sitting in front of the TV is a compromise. We'll try instituting a night during the week where we have to play an active Wii game.

2. Overhaul: We just overhauled our family dinners recently. I've added salad to our dinners and the little ones love it. I don't overeat on carbs since I have the salad. It's been working well for us. My youngest (2) is starting to like veggies so it's great seeing her love a salad.

3. Plan ahead: I have planned meals a week in advance and have recruited my husband to help measure and cut food ahead of time for our family meals to make dinner easier and faster during the week. It also helps with putting together lunches.

4. Family meeting: I spoke with my husband and he agrees to the plan. The little ones are a little young for a family meeting. :)

5. Added goal: Family dinners 3 times a week. This is a cheat for me as we are very big at eating meals together. It's the best part of our day.

Our family week 1 goals:

1. Reduce screen time. This is HARD. My husband will be reducing his computer time soon due to school, but that television is a monster! I am trying to reduce that time by turning it on later.

2. Drink more water. My kids don't like drinking "just water." So I'm letting them have a flavor in their water for the 2nd cup. My husband is a soda hound, though, so that's a tough one.

3. Eat more fruits and veggies. If I take the time to cut them up, the kids will eat them and even my husband will eat the bananas.

My husband and I own and operate a few take-out pizza shops and also have a three-year-old daughter so family time has been a bit of a struggle to plan out. I am looking forward to a family makeover to help us with making our time together more fruitful!
Glad to have joined this team.

My challenge goals are to do more healthy activities as a family. Now that the weather is cooling off a bit (I live in Florida), I would like to have the kids play outside for a little bit before dinner, and then help me to cook. My youngest son will be 5 next month and my grandson will be 3 in December (we all live together), so I'm a bit limited with them helping in the kitchen, but there are certain jobs I can have them do. I also want them to realize the food/snack choices that they make need to be healthy, so I am going to keep very limited amounts of junk food in my house. It will be interesting to see how this works out...I will keep you posted! emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone.

"Tell us why you joined the challenges and what goals you hope to accomplish during the next four weeks!"

I've joined these challenges because my son is starting to want his own ticker! He watches me do my Thing on Sparkpeople, and jiggles around impatiently for me to reach my current ticker goal so he can choose the themes on the next one!

Seriously, of course there's always improvements to make in the way our family (which is me and my son) addresses our wellbeing. So joining this challenge is a great way to help me keep a consistency with my own journey, and some new healthy habits for Chart Boy here.

My goal over the next four weeks is mainly to increase our (together) outdoor activities. Our food can also be improved. So to follow Sparkpeople's advice about goal-making, I aim to do one hour outdoor activity together, 4 times per week (weather permitting). Foodwise I aim to do 2 sit-down together meals per day. If I can reach that by the end of these 4 weeks I shall be extremely happy!

My goals are to reduce the sugary, refined snacks that we have been eating with more fruits and veggies. I also will plan our meals for next week and get outside to play together.

The screen time will be challenging as we do our schoolwork on our PC. I will have to get creative with that. As far as T.V., we don't watch a lot during the week. I will check back in nex week.

My goals

1. To cook healthier meals at least 4 times a week
2. To get ALL the kids to eat at home for at least 2 meals EVERY day
3. To only have the t.v. on 2 hours a day or less
4. Getting the kids to remember them sitting in front of the t.v. or using there phone during dinner is NOT spending dinner time as a family!

I know this will be hard with my family -

Myself (been on board for over 2 years)
hubby (definitely on board)
Robyn oldest daughter 19 (not on board really gotta push)
Timmy oldest son 18 (on board as long as he doesn't have to eat more then 2 times a day)
Becky youngest daughter 17 (on board unless someone has doughnuts)
Christopher Middle son 15 (on board up until I hold my hand out for phone)
Damion youngest son 11 (on board up until I turn off the t.v.)

My goal is to follow the SparkPeople diet plan for me and to include my family in the plan. I'll let my DH eat more, of course! That will be a good start. Using the grocery list, the menu plan, and the daily tracker will be a big focus for me to use.

My goals this week -

#1 - create a menu, and stick to it as closely as possible.
#2 - try and limit pre-prepared foods
#3 - spend 10 minutes each day one-on-one with each of the children, playing, laughing, or just listening to how their day went.
#4 - sit down and find a way to get myself to the gym at least 3 times per week - because I'm what keeps my family together, and if I'm taking care of myself first, the rest will fall into place!

We as a family have called lock-down on the kitchen. Once it hits 10pm the kitchen is off limits the help curb any late night snacking. We also discourage any food in the bedrooms and there are also a tv in our room but it's not hooked up to anything like satellite or cable.

Our son has no tv in his room, but gets ready for bed at 7:30pm to be in bed by 8pm. We read books to him at night and spend quality time with him.

I am hoping to expand on this. We currently don't have the tv on till about 3-3:30is pm when my son watches transformers...or attempts to watch it. I clean with the radio on and kinda dance and sing with it and it seems to help keep me busy and on track with cleaning.

My week one goal is to continue to keep the kitchen lock-down going. I also want to convert many recipes I use to healthier versions without sacrificing taste or cost to make them.

My goal for week one is simply to fit in quality time with my kids. Quality time that the older two boys would appreciate...I think my 9 month old considers all time spent with mommy as quality time.

Over the entire 4 week period, I am hoping to have a less rushed household with plenty of time spent together doing fun activities that everyone will enjoy.

My goals are to obviously loose weight. right now just trying to get to 250 but my high school weight was 150. Just to be at a size 20 would be fine with me :) Trying to be realistic :) I got married at a size 20 and felt comfortable then and happy.

Be able to teach my kids (reenforce it in my husband) healthy eating and how to cook meals and snacks (this has been hard to get kids to do. One did AWESOME at the SP recipe (chicken enchiladas) and turned out PERFECT! she was happy and proud of herself :) so want to really get them to cook more etc.

My short/lomg term goals that push me is that I'm tired of being overweight...it's only causing me more issues health wise although am not diabetic, I do have high blood pressure and now as of the last 6 months have chloestrol problems. want to get them gone! Also have daughter graduating in 4 years and DO NOT want to look like this! Already feel very self conscious going to the girls concerts, or any school functions. I don't even post pics on FB. I do not like leaving the house all too often which is going really mess me up for a future job next year when I get my Bachelors! Or to even do the Internship in the spring. Which I would like to look decent for :) :)

I understand that :) I have a 14 year old, 12 year old and a 5 year old. The two middle younger I don't have to ask to spend time with they are always wanting to go with me somewhere (or everywhere) and doing stuff with me. But my older one is harder sometimes. but she'll aske me to watch movies or tv shows with her :) so that really works out :) we like the same shows for the most part so that works for us :) or we talk about music which we agree on most of too (so weird from my mom and my relationship at this time)! but very Thankful. I know she'll never play board games or cards :( which I also like...but I know what she likes and we talk a lot too...she'll tell me what's happening at band and practices etc. I drive her to and from her practices etc. so that's another time we get to bond and joke around :)

I guess just finding common ground and run with it :) Hope it's going well for you all :)

this week keeping the screen time to a minimum...except spark people of course :) was pretty easy for the whole family. We were on a stay-cation week with trip to the beach for the past two days. We had a pretty easy time of keeping active and not in front of the tv. We went on walks and took the kids bike riding. Went on a couple of excursions to some local parks we havn't visisted in a while. The there was the beach of course swimming in the surf and long walks in the sand :) We will see how this goes this week now getting back to the real world again :)

My goals for this week are to sit down with each of the kids and find out just what fruits and veggies they WILL eat. I'm not a big fan of forcing them to eat things they dont like.. after they've tried them of course. :) I dont eat things I dont like either lol. I also am going to have us sit together as a family for meals, we used to do this and the kids loved it. Dinners were fun, and alot easier to clean up after. I read someone's idea about trading exercise time for tv time. I want to try to come up with a realistic system that incorporates that too. Good luck to everyone!

My kids age 8 & 10 like baby carrots, string cheese, nuts like almonds, walnuts, macadamia , etc.. (I like to get them in baking aisle so they don't have all the flavorings/salt), strawberries, blueberries, kiwis, melons, apples with creamy peanut butter, yogurt, oranges, edamame (soy beans) in the shell because they like to open them up and eat soy bean..... I read an article to take kids to farmers market and give them $2 to spend on fruit and veggies ...encourage them to try something new. We do this in the produce section of the market by trying new fruits or veggies :) I am looking forward to trying it at farmers market !

I want to find healthy snacks for the
different kids that will be visiting this
summer. My Grandsons two have a
weight problem.
Get my husband into walking more.
Try to eat less meat. To be more
healthy.

My family just started a challenge last night until 1 June. We are going to avoid anything with that yummy crunch of fried goodness :)
My boys are 9 and 11 and they are on board and excited.
My husband and I are going to have an accoutability call every evening so we can discuss or alternate choices and challenges. So if we go to Taco Bell, no chips, no nachos, At a mexican restraunt no chips and salsa (my Favorite) We hope this works out great and then every month we will try a 30 day challenge some examples we discussed.
Fruit a Day
Water only for a month

My kids are really excited about it, I think tis will be fun!

Hi there, just started today. My goal this week is to hold a family meeting and go over the shopping list for next week and upgrade them, so to speak, to something a little more healthy.

My goals for this week is to have a family meeting, something we've never done before, and let everyone know that instead of me being the only one who is going to be eating healthier or being more active. I also plan to make a healthy meal for us all to sit and enjoy without televisions or computers keeping us from communicating as a family.
