I've had type2 for a little over 2 years now and finally have my numbers under control. I will hopefully stay on track and lose 10lbs. during this challange. It's a good time to start as my Dr. said I could start a mild excercise routine as of yesterday.. So here we go and good luck to all.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes the first of November 2012. Yesterday I went to my doctor for a diabetes check. My numbers are so well under control that my oral meds were cut in half and my insulin decreased by 2 IU. That said, I am still struggling with getting the habits incorporated into my daily life that I want to have. === I am looking forward to releasing 10 more pounds during this 8 week challenge and incorporating exercise in a healthy way and making it a consistent part of my life. I have been on a plateau as far as my weight goes and want to change that. I still have 60 to 70 pounds that I want to release, in the long run. === Looking forward to being active on this SparkTeam!

On my way . . .

I've had diabetes for years. Also, over weight. I have lost weight in the past, but my weight is creeping back up.

This week i hope to reach my goals of tracking my food and startng to exercise at the GYM at least three days of the week. I also want my goals to include staying up with this challenge every week to get its full benefits instead of losing interest or the modivation needed.

Its almost the begining of March. I want to improve my health and look better before summer!!!

Diabetes runs in my family. tool and I have some pre-diabetic symptoms, though have not yet been diagnosed as such. I found out that the first-week articles, and some of the links off of htem were already read by me two years ago! I did copy off the list of carb portions.

I am late-middle-aged and gained weight these past 5 years, so I want to get my waistline down again, and my muscles stronger. Coordinating my muscles, required for strength and balance, has been a life-long challenge; so I seek those skills.

This week, I will do the T-Tapp exercises every-other-day, since I just did the daily boot-camp for the number of dress-sizes that I wish to drop. I got to the library this morning and saw this challenge, and thought: A great motivation to focus on my big goals.

Also, I need to stop eating wheat. My blood-type does not appreciate many grains, though i do better with a few servings a week. I can get to craving them, though--and have been eating way too much grain for about a week.

Hi, I am Val. I'm 52 and have a lot of weight to lose. Although I'm not diabetic, it runs in both sides of my family. I feel that I am a sugar-holic. My goal for this week is to avoid baked goods and to get moving more. My husband and I walk to Leslie Sansone occasionally. I plan to get in three miles before work for three of the mornings in the next week. I love to cook and frequently search for healthy recipes from SparkPeople. I believe that finding plenty of good vegetable recipes is key for me. My first mid-term goal is to lose 10% of my body weight. The State of Michigan has a challenge out to do that, and I've taken the pledge - and mean it!

Hi. My name is Pam. I don't have diabetes but it runs rampant on my mom's side of the family. So I do everything I can to NOT get it. My goals...lose 15 - 20 lbs, stay away from fast food, increase physical activity, and prepare healthier meals.

Take interest in your future...It's where you'll spend the rest of your life.

Hey everyone! My name is Zara and my goals for this week are to eat better portion sizes of healthier foods. I also want to start exercising. I want to take my dog for a walk every day and I want to work out at the gym at work at least 3 times this week.

My most important goal is reminding myself that I have value, not based on anything I can accomplish or how I affect the lives of those around me, but simply by existing. I have value regardless of my effort. So, when I don't feel like I'm making the world a better place, I still have value and I'm still worthy of taking care of myself. I'm too precious to not treat better than I have been treating myself.

Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Who am I NOT to be?

Hi Everyone,

Well my name is Shy. I don't have Diabetes, but both of my parents do which puts me at risk. I just had my fifth baby almost four months ago. I gained weight like me tend to do during pregnancy, but I continued to stay pretty active up until the beginning of my last trimester. With the diabetes factor such a BIG factor in my life. I mean I've spent a huge portion of my life so far trying to keep it away. So my goal is to bring my weight down around 10 pounds for this challenge and to get back to a tad bit healthier eating. I don't eat too bad my sugar intake has been high since the pregnancy. It's hard to bring it back down once starting again. Oh yeah and consume more water. So with this said I hope to see if anyone has some good recipes that are tasty and to see you guys when I have a 10 pound difference.
Good luck everybody!

I have already lost from 265 to 235. It seems that whenever I get at or below 230 I then go back up. My short-term goal is to get to 225 so I can change my set point.Over the 8-weight time period I wish to lose at least 8 lbs and become more healthy with better control over my AC1

We all have to start somewhere, and at the beginning is the best place to start.
This morning I measured out 8 glasses of water into a jug, so by the time I go to bed, that should be empty only to refill again.

My goals are:

1) Transition myself (and as much of the family as I can drag kicking and screaming) back onto the diabetic diet that I was following about 3 years ago. I felt really good when I was following it and was losing weight. Then baby #2 made her appearance. :)

2) Track my food and exercise more consistently.

3) Lose 15 pounds. I've been flirting with the same 5 pounds for way too long.

My goal is to eat balanced meals and 15 grams of carbohydrates before exercise... if running or some other vigorous exercise for 30 - 60 minutes, increase carb to 30 grams, according to SP article.

I am also on the 10000 Steps A Day Challenge. It took me a while to get there but now it doesn't seem so overwhelming. I enjoy it and now it is just part of my day. I think the secret is to break it up into manageable chunks throughout the day. It works for me!

Hi,
I have not been diagnosed diabetes but PCOS, I have some insuline resistance (not sure what level) and I am taking metformin, so I guess I have at least pre-diabetes. I have been on denial a long time but I think I have to take action NOW.
My goal is to stick to this plan the 8 weeks, and I hope I'll adquire the exercise habit.
Day 1 will be saturday.
Let's start!

I am too on a step counter, I have been for three years and I feel naked without it, if I don't succeed in getting 10000 a day I put a loonie into a teapot and use it wisely at the end of the year for something that is needed for someone else - not for me. I don't like taking money out of my purse!
I also write the number in a book, but I have Sundays off, as it is a day of rest.
Keep up the good work, for weeks I was struggling to get to 5000, but the day that I got to 10000 I was sooo happy.

One of my goals is to walk that whole 10,000 steps thing. Well, yesterday I came close and was so tired and sore that night. I was so glad to hit the bed. Today, I have made it to almost 6000 which is 1.74 miles. Hopefully, I can hit 10,000 without falling apart. I would like to be able to do it on a consistent basis so I will be working on moving more this next couple of months.

The Lord doesn't expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn't (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can - that we work according to to our full capacity, however great or however small that may be.

My doctor says that I am pre-diabetic and prescribed metformin. I started taking it, but really believe that I can manage this by diet and exercise. I have been doing all the right things except for the occasional relapse of drinking diet soda and eating ice cream. I have already lost 15 lbs but I need some more consistency, so here I am. Hoping to lose 15 more lbs and hearing a positive report at my next appointment!
