I'm gonna start putting good quotes here, I think. I'm watching Lawrence O'Donnell and he just quoted Biden:

I've been hoping he would run. I just made a donation to a candidate support organization he recommended on his website. Not a big one, but every coffee cup counts, right?

I also made some postcards for our postcarding group which is re-entering the fray!

I put the address and a small image of a drawing on the front of each card and print and cut them with the local office address. (Postcards and mail to DC both have to go through anthrax screening - have done for decades - so cards to the local offices get there more quickly.)

The comment about AOC raising money for Texans reminded me that I just ran across this comment in a Daily Kos diary this morning:

Republicans have learned to feel better about themselves by putting down others.

Democrats have learned to feel better about themselves by helping others.

Here's the full diary, worth a read:

I know Crescent City! I worked at Gold Beach (and was in Eureka with my mom during a small (not the big) earthquake.

Also know Seattle - mom worked downtown for a while and there was family there at the time.

Here's a local weather cam photo from last year. My house is in the back, wayyyy over to the left.

I love that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was able to raise $3+ million dollars for aid to Texas. An example of what public service should look like.

I'm in the PNW (Seattle). Moved here from California where I happily traversed Northern California having been born in Crescent City (coastal town by the Oregon border) but thankful family moved us to San Jose, CA while I was still quite young. Lived in Redding, CA enjoying all its outdoor beauty (and warmth!!) and moved to the Bay Area when I graduated high school.

I enjoy Seattle a lot, but after so many years, and not being able to travel right now, I'm a bit tired of being so soggy. It's the Emerald City because it is ever green from the consistent rain.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Oregon is not a monolith - different in different places.

Where I am is gorgeous, has a rep of very red (which is not the whole story but some of it),

it's expensive but not as expensive as the West side, which has a rep of being very blue (however there are exceptions).

A lot depends on what you need and what you are able to create! (This year we've created a mini community that shares garden space, baking, eggs, produced part of the year, and it's also comprised of my more blue leaning political friends.)

Funny, we are eyeing Oregon for a move in a couple of years. (with a few other places on the short list). I’m so happy your friend made it out of Corpus Christi. The whole community is politically hopeless, and it boggles the mind, being that a majority is minority.

I will miss you all.

I am so sorry for that.
I grew up in the high desert, near where the Bundy militia took over a wildlife refuge HQ where I volunteered (doing 3 million dollars damage).

I think I liked my neighbors there more when I didn't know what jerks they were, being in support of that. Or some of them.

I have another friend from the Corpus Christi area... she lives in Portland, OR now.

My hometown in TEXAS is 98% idiotville. They have vowed to have a trump train if Biden shows up there this week to address the recovery efforts from the ice storm.
trump flags and useless paraphernalia still being sold at stands on the beach.
These people are hopeless and I am so glad I no longer live there.
And this is my home that I grew up in and loved.

Hi gang. The more that emerges, the more horrifying the sit becomes, with Congressmen actually planning the attack, doing show mes, and staff panic buttons removed.

I know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Stay strong.

Here's my act of self empowerment for the day. I had met a fellow who was interested in dating. I told him that the stuff in the Capitol was disrupting my sleep because of the death threats I and friends got when we were low level feds. (Spoiler alert: A lot of us got them, sometimes with egging on from state and local legislators. This stuff is NOT new.)

Rather than compassion, he asked what things I was doing to have that happen, and "hoped I'd get over my anger".

Don't let the door hit you bud.

Here's acopy of the note from Amber.

Update on the situation in Bend

Our group decided to:

1. Send a low-key message out to membership (see following).
2. Plan to ask a few folks privately to do ballot box drive-bys in the next weeks to see what’s going on.
3. Reach out to Parks and Rec (who owns the property on which this particular ballot box sits).

Parks and Rec immediately responded by getting large construction-type traffic control signs up that say “Ballot Box traffic only” and cone off the rest of the parking lot. No sign of the rabble rousers the next night.

Unrelated to our group, the POC community is planning some “voting parades” so folks can plan to go drop ballots as a group and make it into a party.

All things considered a great outcome thus far…

Thanks for all your feedback and support!

Amber (Indivisible Bend)

Here's the mail text.

The last day that you can mail in your ballot is this Tuesday, October 27. After that, you will have to place your ballot in one of the drop-boxes.

Here in PA we've already had a flap over "poll watchers" filming folks waiting to drop off ballots at a ballot box, which is considered to be voter intimidation. I just gotta shake my head at how the "party of law and order" never seem to read the actual laws and actually FOLLOW THEM.

I'm curious, Ms. Ouzel, what was the strategy?

We ran into an issue in the town I went to college in in Oregon. Folks blocking ballot drop boxes. They came up with a lovely strategy that didn't raise the militia profile. Whew!

Oregon was identified as one of the top 5 states where violent militia action is likely. Not a thrill.

For those of you who are not 100% vote by mail states, I've noticed that the Prez has been trying to weaponize poll watchers.

Blue orgs have been trying to mobilize poll watchers for quite a while due to covid19, but he seems to be calling for more than just "watching". (By the way, poll watchers have to be trained and can't hog the time, typically they are in shifts and not just one party, but I suppose that depends on who is available.)

Here's excellent info about what to do if you do encounter voter intimidation, including a hotline number and who to contact. www.aclu.org/sites/default/f

I've been receiving petition forms for the PA primary ballot for the last week. Is it crazy that I've actually been looking forward to getting these signed?!?!

I have our US Congressional Rep, our PA State Senator and our (fingers crossed and prayers sent) future PA Rep. I have 10 good signatures pretty well locked up, and am shooting for getting about 50 total. First day to circulate them is 01/28.

From today's "You just can't make this stuff up" file: Republican Pennsylvania Senator, Pat Toomey, runs the Senate "candy desk"?!?!?
emoticon
"Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton was among the first senators spotted ordering milk to the Senate chamber for President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial Wednesday, and he took small sips to wash down what looked like a Hershey’s chocolate bar.

This was the second day of the third presidential impeachment trial in U.S. history, and the 100 senators began to search in earnest for comfort and novelty during eight hours of opening statements from House managers.

Senators have complained about being deprived of coffee, tea and other beverage pleasures during the trial. The only two drinks allowed in the chamber are water and milk.

The milk allowance is enshrined in “Riddick’s Senate Procedure: Precedents and Practices,” where it specifies that “Senate rules do not prohibit a Senator from sipping milk during his speech.”

Cotton’s desk is directly in front of Pennsylvania Republican Patrick J. Toomey, who runs the Senate’s candy desk and is known to stock it with products from his home-state chocolatier.

I have been an optimist all of my life but the last 3 years have been a real eye opener. I hope for the best but don't trust the senate majority leader. We shall see. Most important that we all vote regardless of how this turns out.

So, I'll get this party started.

I watched the solemn procession of the House managers to the Senate and I actually started to tear up.

I think the stress of The Resident getting away with murder for the last three years has really worn me down. I was so relieved to see that our system has not completely broken down. Yet.

But thank goodness we all worked to get that majority in the House. That and the judiciary has been the only thing keeping the runaway train on the track!

From here on in we're going to have to take a lesson from Alistor Moody in the Harry Potter books: "Constant vigilance, Potter."
