"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Cor. 10:3-5

When we give something to God, it feels wonderful because we are essentially giving the burden, worries, and cares of that thing over to Him. We are doing what Philippians 4:6 instructs us to do which is to, “Not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” And when we do this, (present our requests to Him), we feel an overwhelming peace knowing that it is in His hands, which is what the next verse explains will happen…”And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 6:18 – With all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

There are some who say that prayer is part of God’s armor and I tend to agree. Although prayer is not a piece of spiritual armor, it is essential to winning spiritual battles. This is because prayer connects us to the power of God which is necessary to defeat spiritual enemies. This verse gives us specific applications of prayer. We are to pray “in the Spirit” because prayers are not merely our thoughts or desires, they are to be done in submission to God. In addition, we are to “keep alert” at all times. Even though we are not literally praying every waking second, there is never a good time to set prayer aside. Prayer is a tool we need to have in constant use. Isn’t it wonderful that we have a God that we can talk to about all matters? Nothing is too big or too small to discuss with the Lord. We not only pray for our needs but we have to pray for the needs of others as well.

Ephesians 6:17 – “And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The Roman soldiers used the helmet to protect their heads from harm while they were in a physical battle. I think that Paul associated the helmet in the armor of God with salvation because it is ultimately the best protection we have against Satan, since nothing, even Satan can separate us from the love of God in Christ as it states in (Romans 8:37-39). God’s Word helps us to defeat our enemies during spiritual attacks. For example, when Satan tried to tempt the Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus used Scripture on all three occasions to overcome temptation (Matthew 4:1-11). Just like the sword can be harmful if misused, the same holds true for the Bible, the “sword of the Spirit.” If the Word is misused by the ones who are supposed to be teachers of the Word, it will cause pain, harm, and spiritual damage.

Ephesians 6:16 - in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (NASB)

The enemy, Satan, knows all of our weakest points and he aims every one of his fiery darts at the bullseye of our human weaknesses. He will use fractured relationships, money concerns, health issues, the state of the nation, and anything else that may cause us to take our eyes off Jesus, and focus on the problem at hand. We are to be smart, and recognize that anything that may cause our hearts to fail, can be prevented when we cast all our cares upon the Lord Jesus Christ - by faith knowing that ALL His promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ Jesus our Lord. When the enemy seeks to introduce worry in our heart or to whip up our frantic emotions - it is the Shield-of-Faith that is our protection - for God's Word is sure and we must stand firm on His truths however fragile life's circumstances may have become.

Ephesians 6:15, KJV: "And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;"

From the Bible, Roman soldiers typically wore sandals that allowed them to move quickly during the battle, but Paul equates these shoes as “the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” Shoes made the soldiers ready for battle. Shoes protect our feet and provide traction. The gospel as I see it anchors our faith in certain basic, universal truths. Without that, we would find our foundation slipping. To me connecting the concept of “shoes” with the gospel of peace tells me that we should be willing to take the gospel into daily battles, sharing it wherever we go like it states in (Matthew 28:19), where Jesus tells his disciples “go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” We are given the gospel of peace in order to be ready for battle and to help others facing spiritual attacks

Ephesians 6:14 – Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.

This means that we have to stand firm in the truth of God’s words. As long as we know the truth, we can always tell when we are being lied to. In this instance, truth is a gift of God to all who are His. We are indwelled by the Holy Spirit of truth, Who has promised to guide us into all truth, and The Truth shall indeed from slavery to sin and Satan, free from the assaults of death and destruction, free from the power of the enemy of our souls - free to live as God intended man to live - in total dependence upon Him, for the praise of His holy name. “Every other piece of the full armor of God is attached to the belt of truth. If you don’t begin with the truth, you’ll never defeat the enemy. And Jesus said God’s Word is true as stated in John 17:17, “Sanctify them through my truth, my word is truth.”

Righteousness, or doing what is right, is essential to protecting our lives through a spiritual battle. This righteousness that protects us is the imputed and imparted righteousness of Jesus Christ that has been imputed to us by faith. Righteousness means being made "right. Sometimes Scripture refers to the righteousness that Christ gives us – His righteousness in, 2 Corinthians 5:21, states “For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." We need the complete righteousness of Christ, but also the continuing righteousness that comes as a response to God’s gift. The enemy tempts with all kinds of sinful entanglements, but righteousness will help to protect our heart.

Ephesians 6:10 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

In this life, we have enormous heavenly blessings that are ours in - Christ Jesus, but we have to realize that we are living in a world in which we are engaged in a conflict that is fought in the spiritual realm, and which requires a heavenly power that can only come from the Lord. On our own strength, we are no match for the evil plots of the devil and Satan, but we have a power that is beyond all powers. We have God and he wants us to be strong in Him and His power and might. just like God told Joshua in Deut. 31:23 and again in Joshua 1:6, “Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors to give them, for I will be with you.” If he was with Joshua, don’t you know he will be with us too.

Ephesians 6:11 – Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

We need to put on all of God’s armor not just a part of it if we want to be able to defend ourselves against Satan's tricks. Though we are saved by grace alone, and so righteousness, truth, salvation are all a given in our eternal reality, to “put on the full armor of God” is to immerse our minds in the awareness of the truth of who we are in Christ and the power that dwells inside us. Because our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual powers and principalities, our weapons are not physical weapons, and our armor is not physical armor. To stand against Satan, we are not unarmed but spiritually armed.
.
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

We must never underestimate the power of the devil. When we believe in Christ, Satan and his helpers try every device to turn us away from Him and back to sin. Although we are assured of victory, we must engage in the struggle until Christ returns, because Satan is constantly battling against all who are on the Lord’s side. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness - against the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience. It is the Holy Spirit of God, who works in believers and it is the evil spirit of wickedness that works in the sons of disobedience. We are in Christ and He is in us and we are to fight this enemy with the spiritual weapons that He has provided - through the Word of God and all-prayer. Christ's victory at Calvary is ours by faith today. He triumphed over Satan through His death, burial, and resurrection, and only through HIM and the spiritual weapons of war that He provides can we successfully wrestle against the evil forces in our world today.

Ephesians 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

The Bible makes it clear: We’re in a battle. It’s a battle we can’t escape with an Enemy we can’t see. As long as we confess Jesus as Lord and have the Spirit of God within us, Satan will do everything he can to destroy our faith. That’s why we’re told to “stand firm” against his schemes. In these verses, God provides us with the “Belt of Truth” which is His Words. In the “Breastplate of Righteousness”, we have to have the complete righteousness of God. In the “Gospel of Peace,” we have to stand and stand firm and not give in to anxiousness or worry because Satan will use that against us. ‘The “Shield of Faith” we have to constantly fortify our faith, because “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”. The “Helmet of Salvation”, which comes the moment we place our trust in Jesus’ death. The “Sword of Truth” is the Word of God. We need God’s complete armor so that we may stand our ground firmly and completely.

We sometimes forget we are not fighting against man but Satan. When we remember this, we know we can count on God to give us what we need to fight.

We want to argue with one another when we disagree rather than remembering that the devil is behind it all tempting us to do wrong. We are to resist him.

Eph 6:12 "Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm." (NLT)
