I changed my goal this week to 480 exercise calories. Did the change from the 500s to the 400s make a difference? Maybe mentally, but I actually exceeded the 500 once this week, without even trying. So, go figure!

When you stay fit, it is not easy to get 500 active calories daily unless you do deliberate, intentional exercise / movement activity. When I had a daily goal of 350 - 400 calories, I could regularly - if I set my mind to it - double that goal on a given day without really thinking about it. But to double the goal and achieve 1000 active calories on a day: that is real effort, as well as taking planning.

I was working to maintain an exercise streak of 500 active calories daily. I thought on Thursday night, I am so close, I don't have to do anything special. Wrong. So I had to restart the streak, for the sake of 12 calories. Frustrating, yes. But that's why I am playing music as my primary challenge, not the details of the world of sport.

Hats off to those who live and breathe (literally) moving and sweating sport performance. You deserve all of the credit that gets celebrated in media. Music performers don't usually get the kind of acclamation accorded sports stars, but we put forth a comparable amount of sweat and tears to prepare for and practice our art.

August 2018 - Move with Intention
However you engage in the six pillars of fitness - cardio strength stretch balance mindful nutrition - recognize that cardio strength stretch and balance are specific to the activity / discipline in which you carry out the movement. Stretch in yin yoga is not the same as stretch after running. Balance on the mini trampoline is not the same as balance on a spin bike. In the differences there are common points: you will get better; so you need to change your accomplishment target so that you continue to improve. It takes challenge to continue to change.
Let your intention be to start / continue / challenge your program choices: at home, in your lifestyle choices, in your recreation venues, to sustain that progress with attention to nutrition and mindful reflection.
