Yes, it was very helpful, but the most improtant thing is to be on that bike lots and lots of time before the century. The hardest thing about it is sitting on that seat and having your hands on the handlebars for 100 miles! If you don't have a lot of time on the saddle, you will suffer miserably! No matter how great your bike gear is, there is no substitute to acclimating yourself to long rides by time in the saddle!

1 Cor 9:24-27
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I descipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, ... I myself should become disqualified!

Sorry. I have been off for a long time. I just saw this post. To train, I rode... a lot. I would ride the bosque trail, and many others and ride on streets, and make sure to ride the hills that are on the official route. I would ride at least 30 miles every ride and try to get in longer rides on the weekends. I have found that cycling classes at the gym make me a much stronger cyclist. I no longer have that luxery... so sprints and hills are important to build strength and aerobic endurance.

The ride goes past the Sandia Casino toward the end. There is a gas station across the street from that, and last year my fam was there with signs to cheer for me. IT was awesome! That is about 80 miles into the ride and facing a long hill up Tramway. I wanted to quit so bad at that point, but there were my four darling children and DH screaming and hollaring... "GO MOM! YOU CAN DO IT!!!" It was the best thing ever. I finished that ride, it took me a lot longer than I wanted, but I finished and I was really proud. I hope to have a better time this year!

I'm not a bike rider at all (picture Artie Johnson on Laugh-In, if anyone's old enough to remember that), but maybe a bunch of us Sparkers can be somewhere in the vicinity of the race to cheer her on!?! Of course, if it's a weekend event, I'll probably be working, as usual, but it would be nice to have people cheering for her on this ride.
What do you think?

Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You will succeed if you persevere: and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.
Helen Keller

Obstacles cannot crush me, every obstacle yields to firm resolve.
Leonardo DaVinci

JUST FOR TODAY, I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow

OOOOOHHHHHH...I would LOVE to do this ride!!! Sadly, I still haven't gotten out on my bicycle since my pelvic fracture.

I'm ALMOST healed up, and need to start training AGAIN....oh woe is me.

Hit me up later for any other upcoming ride events. I'm just NOW starting to ride my bicycle on a Trainer, and up to 1-hr.

Have a GREAT TIME and thanks for the invite and info!

Hey, I am planning on doing the Albuquerque Century on June 6th. I was just wondering if anyone else on the team would be there. In case you aren't familiar with this bike ride, I am posting a link below.
