I was away from the computer too and didn't get my results posted, but I think I was at 175 for the first week and I am up to 520 minutes for the month of February. I know I wasn't a contender on the weight because I am busy floundering back and forth in the same area on the scale. I'm pretty sure I am gaining muscle weight again because I've been working pretty hard. I guess it is all part of toning.

Week 1
SW: 192

Fitness Minutes:75

I didn't work out as much as usual this week, but I wasn't stagnant either. Two pounds down is still two pounds less than I weighed last week.

I hope everyone else did great this week.

I didn't weigh in this last week, so not sure if I lost or gained, but I am feeling great about my fitness minutes last week. I logged 359 minutes! When I usually would have gone straight home after working late, I actually talked myself into hitting the gym for a short workout first. That was a major accomplishment for me.

I lost nothing....I think I am going to stop getting on the scale for a while...my clothes are MUCH looser, so I'm going with that as small victories. Plus, as I said before...I am mixing up my workouts and feel muscles hurting that I haven't felt in a while...so that's good. I still really need to push the strength training...it is SOOOO true that you do what you love...and I don't love that UGH...but I do want toned arms...so I'll do it. Once I start seeing results I'll be more motivated.

WOO HOOO! I lost 1 pound, big deal :( That 1 pound comes and goes every couple weeks but I guess it's something.

I could only do a 32 minute, 1.43 mile walk today, it was VERY humid and since it rained yesterday (which it only happens 2 days a year) there were bugs everywhere and it just stunk. I know, a sorry excuse, but you have to live here to really understand.

I did days 5 & 6 boot camp videos and the stretching. Think it was a total of 15 minutes?

Today was a tough day for me. Sold Mom's house (my home) She died November 2007. This also would have been my brother's 50th birthday....he died in a car accident in 1981. We were very close...in fact we were 15 months apart in age. Yes, I cried and my daughter that came along for moral support, she cried too. I am fine though. It was a tough day, but it is done and I am OKAY.

Not much in the line of exercise today unless you count crying....it was stressful, it accelerated my heart rate and it definitely sucked.

Going to Washington DC with my DH for a couple days...he has a board meeting and i am going to be a tourist. It will be a welcome relief to today's stress. I hope everyone's weekend is a good one and that everyone is happy with their accomplishments for the week.

Can we get back to just recording our mins. now and not worry about what kind of exercising the other gal is doing. I think this thread is sounding a bit hostile and I don't think that is anyone's intent.

Let's just bury the hatchet.

I am 51 years old, diabetic and YES I AM over weight but that is why I joined spark people. My life is totally different that yours. I AM AMERICAN but live overseas where I only have so much time to actually do grocery shopping so I do speed shop and walk as fast as I can when I do. My level of fitness is low right now, I do what I can, when I can, how I can in order to increase my activity. I walk 5-6 days a week for 30-45 minutes, I do exercises for another 10-15 minutes. That is my fitness level right now and what I am comfortable doing without hurting myself. I went from 0 exercise in July to where I got now and I am damn proud of what I do and what I have accomplished.

Obviously it doesn't take much to send you over the edge, but don't take it out on us here. Statements like yours make people like me want to quit teams.

sorry NHStitcher...I thought (mostly by the responses you got) that you were serious. And I could care less about who wins the challenge....although I find it really motivating to know that everyone else is out there getting their minutes in. I probably handled it wrong, but I am a nurse and very very passionate about being FIT....I don't know you or how old you are or your level of fitness, but I work out at a very basic female only gym and we have TONS of seniors working out there everyday...they amaze me. Water aerobics, yoga, cycling and lots and lots of walking. It's so good for your joints and your muscles, your endurance, etc etc. I just want people to understand the benefits of working out on their overall health. And I thought you were serious about the cart and it sent me over the edge because I feel like that's what has plagued this country is all these excuses about why I can't won't etc etc....yes...I need to take a chill pill but I'm passionate about it for the best possible reasons, I promise. If I have to admit one more diabetic child who is at least 40 pounds overweight at the age of 11 I am going to scream. It's very very scary. sorry this was so long

Well....I am sore today but think I have finally mixed things up enough to get some results. I kind of got into a rut doing the same thing over and over - step classes and bootcamp, and of course it's better than being inactive, but I definitely got used to it. Now I am spinning and taking some other types of classes too and I can definitely feel it...I am sore all over, but that is good. I really really have to push myself to do strength training but I know that it is very effective. Any suggestions out there? Do you guys do it and love it...I would love to tone up my arms before spring/summer....

So far I am at 105 minutes for the week. My husband has a board meeting in Washington DC Saturday until Tuesday and I'm tagging along to be a tourist. I can hardly wait to get in miles of walking (without the fear of slipping on ice).

Oh and hey, Happy Anniversary Team!!! We are 6 months more fabulous than we were last summer. Healthier and just plain amazing. Get yourself to your nearest mirror and give yourself a big 6 month anniversary smile at your new reflection!!

Good grief macy sorry I asked that question and NO I WASN'T SERIOUS. I AM doing the boot camp workout thing.

You need to take a chill pill.

AND NO, I DID NOT ADD IT TO MY FITNESS MINUTES FOR THURSDAY. I ONLY COUNT ACTUAL WALKING AND EXERCISE. I exercise 6 days a week and take one weekend day to do errands and be with my DH.

I think you can take it to the extreme.

What's important is that we are all working to better our own health... not to win a challenge.
If you are young and very athletic, it's going to take more to raise your heart rate.
If your older and very sedentary, going up and down stairs is going to be hard and will raise your heart rate.

We must remember that we are all at different levels of fitness. And yes, it may seem unfair, but that's life. The older person may wish he/she could do exercise to the limits that the younger person does.
Just try to put yourself in their shoes.

Kudos to you for all your hard work.
Keep it up girl.

I do add shopping and cleaning on my fitness tracker, but on a thread like this I would only enter what I felt it equaled in actual aerobic exercise. For example, I was cleaning for several hours yesterday, but for the sake of this thread, I would only add probably 20 mins. of exercise (up and down stairs, etc)

I understand your frustration, but in reality, most of us probably don't enter the normal, every day stuff... just the out of the norm or excessive spring cleaning.

I'm no threat anyway, cuz I know I won't win this challenge. I'm just aiming to put something down everyday and stay moving.

and I know some people are going to come back and say to count cleaning and mopping...and yes it is good to have an active lifestyle and do all of those things. But, if we are going to have a FITNESS challenge, then it should be dedicated exercise, no matter what your level of ability.....one hour walking at a slow pace on the treadmill if you have bad joints is equal to one hour of intense spinning or stepping or running...but at least it is all dedicated exercise. Activities of daily living are just that.....not fitness minutes. I want to look at my minutes for the week/month/year and know that I set aside time for myself and my health and earned every last second of that time.....the being active like cleaning and running the kids around is just an added bonus...not fitness minutes. does anyone agree??

This is a tough one for me.....and I know I'm going to make everyone mad here....and I know the challenge is just meant to get people motivated and up and MOVING......but how are the people who really push themselves with advanced bootcamp classes and spinning supposed to compete for minutes when others are counting pushing a grocery cart? Even if you log it as a very slow pace, the minutes still count....heck if we are doing that then I'm going to count mopping the floor, vaccuuming, carrying laundry up three flights of stairs....that's just LIFE. I thought we were logging in devoted, committed exercise. Am i wrong? Please don't yell at me.....

I usually count something like that, or browsing the mall for an hour, a very slow walk. I track it as only 30 minutes of walking at a 30 mph pace, but I do record mine on the fitness tracker.

so far I have 60 minutes walking, and 10 minutes abs/stretching. Looks so small compared to NHStitcher's 247 minutes...
ditto Merrilees, my goal is to increase my walking back to at least 4 days a week at work for 30 minutes and to put back in my abs/stretching 5 days a week.

Great job so far! I have logged in 30 minutes of elliptical, and I plan on another 30 tomorrow morning!

I probably won't win this challenge, but so far I've logged in 75 mins over 3 days.
My main goal is to do something every day.
So far so good.

I am starting off with a bang! I did my abs last night and walked for 30 minutes today. I am ready to get back on track and lose this weight!
Hopefully I will stay this motivated through the month of February!

This week's challenge is exercise. How many fitness minutes can you get? The team member with the most fitness minutes will win the challenge, and get a spark goodie!

Also, remember to weigh in next Saturday, because the person who lost the most weight will also get a spark goodie!

Get out there and move this week!!
