I've used my "snow" days to be very productive:

Got in some extra workout time.
Changed all my linens & washed the dirty ones.
Baked cookies for our "exchange" at work tomorrow.
Made out my Christmas cards.
Finished a project for work.

Overall, a very productive 2 days!

Gotta share about the cookies... I made room in my calorie count for today so that I could enjoy one of the cookies I made, and then it didn't taste good so I only ate half of it. How funny that they used to be one of my cravings, and now I didn't even like the flavor! LoL

Hey all, just thought I would check in while I'm at work. It was touch and go last weekend. I was too busy Friday while at work (and I left at noon) and I was having a terrible time getting on my computer at home. Must be my computer because I got on here at work just now with no trouble.

Doing well even though it is so darn cold! Skipped the gym yesterday and today as the drive in is hard enough with the bad roads. But I did 70 minutes on the treadmill last night and will do something at home tonight too.

STAY WARM EVERYONE!!

Hope everyone is staying safe & warm during this winter storm...

I used the cold as an excuse to get an extra workout in... figured that would be a good way to "warm up"!

Thanks for the "kudos"... I was beginning to feel like I'd be "stuck" on the 218 number forever! Nice to see some movement on the ol' scale!!!

Hey that is pretty good getting breakfast in every day when you probably normally don't ever eat it on a reg basis.

I have gotten to the point where I am getting breakfast in now I am working on trying to get in lunch somehow I ended up flipping the two around. Used to be breakfast was my weak point now it is lunch but hey I will get it figured out.

I'm here... I just wait until Sunday afternoon to wrap up my week...

So, this week was pretty good... "diet" wise went well, even w/ being on the road a couple days. I stayed w/in calories, made healthy choices when eating out, and got in all my fruits/veggies & water.

Exercise-wise, I made it to the gym twice, and did all my BL workouts, but I did skip one day of exercise (yesterday) because of a road trip.

Overall, I lost 2 lbs. this week, so I'm gonna go w/ success... and I plan to workout extra today to make up for yesterday's missed one.

I don't monitor my weight too closely. I take action & leave the outcome up to nature :) If my pants feel tight, I look at what I'm doing & tweak it! Otherwise, my weight is none of my business ;)

I weighed myself this morning & I gained a little. It was less than a pound (220.5). I know that I had a rough week & didn't exercise the way that I should. I tried to get in my walking, but didn't every day. I did however eat breakfast everyday & for me this is big. If this kicks me off the challenge, then I understand. No hard feelings or anything because I know that I'm making good changes.

Gail,

That was so nice to get that compliment! I would call that a Non-Scale Victory! :)

My exercise was great this week. I went to the Y Mon-Fri for 60 min each day. I obviously did a LOT better on food since Thanksgiving is over. Not perfect, but okay. Lost just under half a pound. Of course I want to lose more, but at least I know I'm back on track. Someone told me when I gained that I shouldn't be discouraged. I lost it once, so I know I can lose it again. She was right.

Good luck all!

Robin

This week I came to the realization that I need to switch my protein versus carb intake. I keep hitting a wall twice a day and no matter how hard I try to push through the last wall I just can't. The first wall is easy I have purposely scheduled my day now to include something active around the 10 am to 12 pm time frame. The other wall I am still working on, but I think if I start with more complex carbs like whole grain toast and also get more protein I should start seeing an improvement.

I had a meeting with a personal trainer yesterday who finally got my particular problem with working out and is going to help me focus on basically regain some strength and muscle tone in my right upper arm.

One good encouraging thing that is a positive is that my lean body mass is 105 and according to my trainer that is within the normal range so even tho my BMI is 30.3 and I weigh 171 because my lean body mass is in good shape I don't look overweight.

The Dr gave me some anti inflammatory cream to put on my elbow and hand areas that are affected from the injury I sustained 6 years ago due to a cat bite injury.

I went to go buy a bottle of wine last week at a liquor store in Cherokee OK and the gal gave me a huge compliment she said that she didn't think I was old enough to have a 19 yr old son out there somewhere. I asked her how old she thought I was and she said late 20's early early 30's so that made me feel good to know that I am taking that good care of my skin that people think that I am at least 10 yrs younger than I am.

Since Monday I have done great with protein and low gi veges!
Haven't yet reached my goals consistently of drinking 92 oz of water.
Have had good attitude toward others and their giving within the holiday food issues.
Have been moving a DS - and haven't yet gotten in exercising scheduled - but other moving exercise each day since Monday this week.

Will blog on this shortly.

This week has been great! I've totally been sticking to my food plan & drinking plenty of water. I've also been getting enough sleep & 2 days ago I even started doing a little cardio! LOL I know I said I was never going to exercise, but it's been 12 degrees here & I thought it would warm me up to do that while I wait on my breakfast to cook ;)

This week has not been very good for me. It has been very emotional. Right now I'm having a very hard time with my husband & I living apart & I haven't been doing as well on my exercising or my eating. It seemed that no matter what I tried to do, I just fell apart. I may look happy on the outside but inside I'm a basket case. I know that a lot of it has to do with the holiday season, but it is also realizing that it isn't any fun living alone & not being able to see him or talk to him very much during the week. It's not like we did a lot of things when we lived together, but even sitting in our recliners we seemed to click. I hate this but there isn't anything that we can do about it right now so I have to get over this hump. Don't think that the scale is going to show anything too good on Sunday & I would be surprised if it did. I just have to get back on the straight & narrow again tomorrow.

I am checking in too!
I had a great week.

Tracked my food everyday, even the weekend!
Lost one pound.
Went to the gym 3 days for a hour.
Walked 1 1/2 miles in the neighborhood last Tues, and then walked the same on my treadmill yesterday. (Too cold outside!)

I also saw a orthopedic doctor this week and found out that I do have quite a bit of arthritis in my knees but they are not as bad I thought they may be. I am happy about that and I also now know what exercise I can do and how much.

I also added a blog about the change Spark has done for me in the last year!!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

I'm checking in today as my home computer is still in the shop. I did really well with exercise, pretty good with eating within my range. I will be working harder at that next week. Good luck to you all!

I just looked back and this is almost identical to what I said last week....guess I didn't work much harder on the eating thing.....hope to do better next week! emoticon

Challengers, I just wanted to re-post the basic rules to the challenge again so you don’t have to scroll all the way down.

Since the focus of this challenge is to stay on your program throughout the Holidays, if you start to feel you are wavering, or you went off program, blog about it. This will keep you in the challenge. Post the blog link on the challenge for us to all give you support. Asking for, giving and receiving support is the Spark in SparkPeople. This will keep you in the challenge.

Check in to this challenge will be once a week. FRIDAY, SATURDAY OR SUNDAY. This will keep you in the challenge

If you are traveling and won't have access to a computer, SparkMail me beforehand to make some other arrangement. This is a flexible challenge to serve your needs.

This challenge is about staying strong and staying on your specific Lifestyle program. This is about you keeping firm on your commitment to yourself. Also, it is about not self-sabotaging and spiraling into the pit of despair that seems to be part and parcel of the end of the year holiday over-do.

You definitely deserve a emoticon & a emoticon !!! The scale is not the most important part of losing weight I think. I have started noticing a difference in my clothes & I won't measure myself again until the 8th, but I can tell a difference & I know that it is in inches. So congrats to you & keep up the good work.

Well... I'm celebrating a "non-scale" victory today!

Since it's the 1st of the month, I did my measurements this morning. I lost 1/4 inch off my arms & hips, 1/2 inch off my chest & thighs, and 3/4 inch off my waist... which is a total of 2.25 inches for the month!!! WooHoo!!!

I may have only lost 3 lbs. for the month, but I still consider the month a success!

Does the fact that I was out of town and had limited computer access save me at all? When I mean limited I was in Oklahoma using a PC of someone who is ubber paranoid about someone even chatting in a chat room. So basically all I was able to do was check email and such.

The challenge runs from November 22 through January 16.

This challenge is NOT weight loss focused. It is about keeping your commitment to staying strong and staying on your program. After all, isn't this about a Lifestyle change, instead of just a diet and temporary fix?

Every challenge on Spark has rules to follow. These are those rules:

1) Every challenger needs to have a SparkPage; having a profile doesn't count.

2) Sign up for this challenge: No later than Wednesday 11/25.

3) State your normal food program to the members of this challenge.

4) State your exercise program to the members of this challenge.

5) Since the focus of this challenge is to stay on your program throughout the Holidays, if you start to feel you are wavering, or you went off program, blog about it. This will keep you in the challenge. Post the blog link on the challenge for us to all give you support. Asking for, giving and receiving support is the Spark in SparkPeople.

6) Check in to this challenge will be once a week. Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

7) If you are traveling and won't have access to a computer, SparkMail me beforehand to make some other arrangement. This is a flexible challenge to serve your needs.

Again, this challenge is about staying strong and staying on your specific Lifestyle program. This is about you keeping firm on your commitment to yourself. Also, it is about not self-sabotaging and spiraling into the pit of despair that seems to be part and parcel of the end of the year holiday over-do.

Yes, Sara, Asilla is correct. The requirements were to post your weekly progress on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. That's three chances to post and I gave us until midnight to get it done.

Also, to stay in the challenge you are to blog and link your blog here detailing why you faltered on your program.

If you did not falter on your program, no blog necessary unless you just want to BUT posting on one of the three days is still required.

The rules of the challenge were clearly laid out and posted more than once on this thread.

Being part of a challenge is simply an extra incentive for everyone to commit and stay on their program during these holiday months. Committing to a challenge here on Spark, whether for this team or any other team, is your public announcement of what you'll do to stay on your program.

I really thought this would be an easy challenge since all of us should be doing what WE NEED TO BE DOING to lose weight and become healthy people. You are not doing this challenge for me but for yourselves. Since it's a new week, I'll re-post the original rules for staying in the challenge.

Is Asilla correct? Are the three of us that posted late out of the challenge? If so, it is okay and I will continue to work on myself. Good luck to all remaining.

Good news....
Had an appointment with a orthopedic doctor today and even though I do have osteoarthritis in my knees they are not bad enough for surgery for a year or more yet!!
He said my walking and exercises and weight loss were exactly what I need to be doing!!
He said all of that will make surgery even longer away!!!
Now THAT is what I call incentive to keep going!!!! LOL

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

Asilla is right!

Don't let this be a quitting point. Just because you are not in the challenge anymore doesn't mean you are excused from continuing with YOUR healthy program.

The challenge was simply a way to keep your program always at the forefront of your mind as you get through these holidays.

Please do not feel discouraged or badly because you missed some timetable on a thread.

-to those who are participating, best of luck and yes, you are ALL winners.

Sorry but I, too, am a day late. No real excuse except working too much and some personal issues. I have been doing well. I am working really hard on getting my husband to make less food for dinner so I am cutting my portions. I have been exercising every day. The scale said I lost a little more than a pound this am.

Sorry for not posting sooner, but went out of town. I had a blast and focused more on friends and family I haven't seen in years. So ....

I didn't go overboard on Dinner on Thanxgiv --
many of the articles about calorie values were
a lot like cramming for an exam, so it was easy
to mentally measure what I wanted on my plate.

The real challenge was getting my exercise while
staying in someone else's house and working it
closer totheir schedule instead of my norm.

All in all, great week and stayed on target!!

Well I am a day late but certainly not a dollar short.

I actually did very well for once this year. We were out of town this holiday and as you all know it is the traveling that is the hardest on the best laid plans as you are used to grabbing what is convenient.

I kept the junk food to a minimum and kept portions small, I did major splurge once at Dairy Queen by having a chocolate, covered strawberry waffle cone. Aside from that I worked hard to be a good girl.

I took my son to the local park Friday as the weather was very nice and he went to the park on Thanksgiving day as well. For exercise for myself I picked up,swept, and mopped the front end of the house of the folks I was staying with. That took about 2 hrs.

The important thing is that I did try to make alterations in how I normally do things on the holidays. My biggest challenges are coming up as my sons b day and mine are in the same week as X Mas and New Yrs. Plus all the Christmas things we will have to attend.
